Delicious food, but impatient service and uninspiring ambience
Saar is a midtown Indian with an inventive menu, delicious food, and an excellent location for a pre-theater or post-theater dinner or lunch. Compared to other NYC Indian restaurants, its menu is a bit limited - no onion bhaji, chicken tikka masala or lamb vindaloo - but it makes up for that with great flavor. We had the ragda chat and prawn balchao appetizers, and the latter was truly spectacular, one of the best Indian dishes I’ve had anywhere in the world. For entrees, I couldn’t resist the butter chicken, and my wife had the lamb kebabs appetizer. I would have rated this a 5 except for two things: the service was way too impatient, as the servers asked us three times whether we were ready to order before asking us for our drink orders; and the ambience leaves something to be desired, with blah decor and blaring Indian music that made conversation difficult.

The Quality and service of SAAR Team was excellent and I enjoyed the same. Further Divya was very helpful and catering to the requirement of all the customers. Kudos of SAAR for providing authentic Indian Food !!

The service was first class and the cuisine was the best Indian food I have had in the States. I recommend the Delhi Ka Butter Chicken!
Be the first to ReplyOk Indian restaurant in Theater district though quite overpriced
We stopped by Saar after matinee performance in December 2022. The food was quite tasty with a nice presentation but there was nothing extraordinary to justify a steep price tag. The selection was limited as well. Overall, the expectations based on reviews and prices were high but we got "just ok" Indian food. The service was unremarkable. Food was served quickly but the waiter couldn't suggest the best dishes and we got a regular naan instead of garlic naan we ordered. We are going to some other place next time we are in the area. Appetizers: Samosa Tasting - 6 tiny samosas for $16. We liked only Jalapeno & Cheese as others were too dry. Saar Lamb Kebab - 3 small lamb cutlets with interesting taste due to original spices combo. They seemed to be somewhat undercooked though and my wife passed on them. Mains: Pistachio Chicken ($25) - the sauce was very creamy with chicken almost melted in it. A bit over salted and a bit bland. It certainly needed some more spices to make the taste more colorful. Rogan Josh ($29) - this was a good standard Rogan Josh. Right texture, meat, flavor. To my taste it could be somewhat spicier but it was good.

I’ve been here a couple times. This place serves really great Indian food in a lovely space. Friendly staff, reasonable pricing. I did a lunch prix fix (two courses) for 25$. The theater district can be tough to navigate with all the chains, but this place is a little gem in that neighborhood. I’ll be back.

The food was purely delicious, cozy atmosphere, nice and relaxing music, calming lighting, excellent service. We are only for five days in NY but we are coming back!

Good location for Broadway theater shows. Authentic and somewhat creative Indian cuisine. Good service and pleasant atmosphere.

Cute decor
Very loud.
Limited seating
Friendly wait staff
Biryani was so spicy that it was inedible . No where did it note this. It was super dry and a total waste I've never had a Biryany with this much chili.
The risotto was very good
I spoke with the management and was offered a new plate by the young lady however, the owner offered to send me home with a dessert . I took the dessert .
Would never go back.
Absolutely amazing food and good service. A nice gem in the theater district.
Our group of 20 enjoyed a fantastic lunch. The menu selection was organized by Avatar Singh. Great food that tasted so good. Usually hard to please everyone -but to bring out one amazing dish after another-that everyone loved-can only be accomplished if you know what you are doing. Everything from Gobi Manchurian special to Pindi chana, kofta, dal and the desserts were really good. Will definitely come back

Our family of three loved our dinner at Saar. The service was warm and the food was well prepared. Our shrimp was cooked perfect. The chicken korma was outstanding and we loved the yellow dal. Our 11 year old had three helpings. Try it!

Nice Indian cuisine to enjoy for lunch or dinner. You have a choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Nice for friends, families and business meetings. I feel outdoor dining is nice for dating as well, (especially at night). I suggest the achari Mushroom, samosa tastings and paneer fingers. There are vegan / vegetarian options. I would dine here if you have the opportunity as prices are nice for being in New York. ENJOY!

Really attractive eatery.
Food was delicious and the service was excellent. Reasonably priced (for NYC).
The chef used coconut milk to ensure my wife's dish was Vegan. Every one there friendly and attentive.
Best meal yet in NYC
Indian dinner
Stopped for a quick dinner with my daughter’s on a side street in NYCity. We chose 4 small plates rather than 3 entrees. The variety of flavors as well as the different plates- prawns, lamb as well as vegan were fantastic! Finished w three desserts and coffee. Perfect finish to the day.

An elegant uncrowded Indian dining experience. With 3 in our party we tasted several dishes, all delicious. The Shredded Okra Salad was a different way to present okra which we loved. We also enjoyed a vegetarian dish of mustard greens, and shared a half chicken. Service was attentive, and the dining room was quiet, with diners well spread out to feel safe eating inside. They also have a few tables out on the street. Highly recommended.
