Best bang for your buck omakase sushi restaurant in the OC.
Fishes are from sources from all over the world, mainly from Japan. Great service

This place needs more reviews than what they currently have because the food was delicious and the service was amazing! My fiance and i came here for dinner and we both ordered 2 of the 12 piece omakase + 2 appetizers set and beef tongue. The appetizers came with 4 different things. The sushi pieces were all fresh & yummy. There wasn't a single piece that was "meeeeh" in my opinion. The beef tongue was insanely tender. I thought the texture of it was going to throw me off considering it's beef tongue but it was sooooo good. It's ran by a husband and wife & i appreciate how they only take a certain amount of people at a time to ensure quality of the food & great service. Will be coming back!

We got a 8:30pm reservation! Dined at the bar in front of the chef. Ordered the following 1) omakase 12 piece - pieces are small but we ordered enough of the appetizers to fill our stomach, price is affordable! 2) monk fish liver - husband liked this!! 3) sea urchin tofu - the tofu was a bit stinky, not sure if that's how it should be? Urchin was good 4) beef tongue - yum, soft and delicate tasting 5) miso soup, there's a fish ball inside? 6) stewed egg plant - flavorful! 7) green tea chocolate cake x 2 - very dense and full of matcha flavor, melts in your mouth Chef is super friendly and wife is very busy serving everyone in the restaurant! It's only a two person team.
Be the first to ReplyThis is another hidden gem in Garden Grove.
First, service is super friendly from chef to servers. I feel like home when I first dined here. Second, the fish quality is perfectly melt in your mouth, fresh quality, unique taste. Very nice knife skill. Third, the ambiance might not be welcome when you walked in but as long the food is good, I don't mind at all. Will be back!
Be the first to ReplyThe BEST omakase restaurant we have been so far.
My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here and it was amazing. Definitely will be coming back!

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and it was our first omakase EVER. I had never been so excited for a meal in my life. Taira is a little hidden gem in Garden Grove led by Chef Ben and his wife Ayako bringing amazing cuts of the freshest, high quality fish and more for so much cheaper than other omakases I've seen on social media. It's not a huge restaurant, but the smallness of it adds to the cozy and intimate experience that I feel that omakase needs. We sat at the bar and got to watch Chef Ben put together the nigiris and it was honestly a dream. We started with the appetizer set that featured a number of different appetizers like whelk, spinach, pickled tomato, eggplant, jellyfish, and steamed egg with uni. When you first hear about what you get, it doesn't particularly sound spectacular, but trust me, EVERY BITE blew me away. It speaks to amazing talent to turn simple things into flavor explosions. Please get this. At $85, this 12 course omakase was the most reasonably priced one I had ever heard of and just like the appetizers, EVERY BITE, was beyond flavorful. I was so sad when I finished my bite. I can't put it into words. Just go try it. We also got the roasted brown tea pudding and surprised me with a fruit tart for my birthday since my boyfriend mentioned it in the reservation. Chef Ben and Ayako were so sweet and they created such an amazing first omakase experience. We will 100% be going back and I can't wait to do so!
Be the first to ReplyThis is a reservation only restaurant, and I really liked
This is a reservation only restaurant, and I really liked the private atmosphere of the place. We got Omakase here, and the chef and waiters were all really nice. The biggest caveat here being the price. With omakase being 89, you potentially get good value given the selection of fish that was offered. But definitely a pricier and treat yourself kind of meal This review will be short - the fish quality was out of this world. I was constantly surprised by the selection of fish. For example, I generally do not like tuna due to it, being usually a rougher texture, but today, even though they only put soy sauce on it. They had chosen such a good selection of blue fin tuna/or prepared it so well that it was really soft and had great depth of flavor. Maybe I'm a tuna person now! Things I've never tried before I particularly liked the sour eggplant that they served.

Amazing quality food for great prices, no wonder they are always booked. Not only was the 12 piece omakase delicious and creative, but the izakaya items we ordered were also a hit. The chicken wings were probably the best I've ever had. Eggplant and shishito peppers were also good. Definitely making this one of my must visits every time I'm back in SoCal to visit family.
Be the first to Replygreat selection of fish and small plates.
family owned. very good service. biggest downside is for $$$$ the pieces of fish are small when you compare to other comparable places of quality/price.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely deserve as a hidden gem.
Please make reservation and don't blame if you can't get a table for walk in. Family owned and very friendly atmosphere. They don't treat you as customer, they treat you as friend to hang out with them. You don't only get sashimi from Japan, but also korea and Norway, depends on seasons. The most seasoned fish is what you will get

Wow. That's all I can say. We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary with some good friends of ours. Omakase was phenomenal!!! Chef Sato and his wife were awesome. This will most likely be our go to place now for sushi. Thanks for making this a memorable occasion for us!!!

So happy to have a serious sushi place 10 minutes from my house. Run by husband and wife team Ben and Ayako Sato, the restaurant offers a killer omakase bargain 12 pieces for $85 and an eclectic mix of delicious appetizers. Taira would be a welcome add to any city but in the sushi dessert that is Garden Grove it is an absolute godsend. Definitely going to be a regular go to for me.

I'm a bit of a sushi snob and am really glad I found this place. I had the 12-piece omokase and was thoroughly pleased. Will definitely visit again!

Such a little gem! Came here on a Friday night and we left so so happy! Small little cozy restaurant, ran by a wife and a husband! The husband is the sushi chef owner and the wife runs the front of the house. The food was AMAZING! We ordered the 12pc omakase and Ben the chef explained to us each and every piece of the type of fish and the origin. I'd say about 90% of his fish was from Japan that night! We also ordered the appetizer platter which was the perfect plate of variety of small Japanese "otsumami". Perfect to pair with some sake! The desserts were also amazing! His wife makes the desserts in house and it's the perfect way to end the omakase! Not too sweet either which for a drinker like myself it's perfect lolMake sure to make a reservation, most likely won't be able to get in without one!

Omakase was 10/10. Small and homey atmosphere. Chef knows his stuff and was very nice!

Such a cute new sushi joint, owned by a lovely couple! My family and I went here to celebrate my sister's new career, and to try out their Omakase! As a forewarning, this place gets busy! So you'll need to an appointment at least a week in advance. We called two days prior and were able to get a table for 6... but the seating was for 9:30 PM... Later than when I typically have dinner, but am still grateful we were able to get seats for a huge party. Food was great, omakase is of high quality and very up to par to the more popular ones in OC. I can see why this place gets so packed. Husband and wife here are so delightful and made our evening much more memorable. Their sake and soju bottles are also priced at very good value, so there may be no need for you to bring in your own bottle, unless there's a bottle you want to bring that they do not have. I highly recommend this place and am definitely coming back to say hi to my new friends.

Do yourself a favor and call to book a reservation then come back to read the reviews!! Trust me you won't be disappointed!! Been wanting to try Omakase here and were lucky enough to get a spot at the bar due to a cancellation (thank you whoever you are for canceling). Taira is own and operate by a husband and wife fantastic duo. Ben (owner/chef) and Ayako (wife/hostess - she took my number and actually called me back!!!) are super nice, friendly, and sociable. Restaurant is cute and cozy. Spacious seats at the bar and few cozy tables to the side. Nice ambiance and decor. FOOD!!! We ordered fried tempura veggie for appetizer (forgot the actual name and to take pictures) but it was delicious! We wanted to try the appetizers samplers but was afraid we might be too full for the 10 pieces Omakase. Ben is very attentive to his guests and explains every piece as he handed us our pieces. Every piece was on point, unique work of art, true perfection, and absolutely delicious!! Fishes were fresh and tasty!! Uni was creamy (yes I said Uni!!!!)Service was impeccable and the food was beyond amazing!! Definitely will be coming back for more especially the appetizer samplers!! So call book a reservation then go have yourself some amazing sushi. You will thank me later!!
Be the first to ReplyFood : 4/5 .
Appetizers were good. We love their monkfish's liver, beef tongue, chiles toreados. We got their 12 pieces Omakase. 1st round 6 pieces were not impressed. Rice was little hard and the nigiri was lack of flavor. 2nd round make up with better flavor but rice still same hard and not that enough level of sweet/sour. Freshness is acceptable. Price: Decent but they should not have 3.5% credit card fee. I rarely see this charge in a sushi place neither other type of restaurant. Service: Only 1 chef and 1 server as a husband and wife. Can't expect fast service but they are very nice and always have nice smile. Facility: small, cozy, traditional sushi place. It was running by another owner but the menu was not that good like this new one.

Wow! This place is amazing! Literally run by husband and wife and they were so, so nice, friendly and welcoming! The husband was a sushi chef for over 20 years and finally opened up his own restaurant! I made a reservation for the day after Valentine's Day because Valentine's Day was going to be packed everywhere. My boyfriend and I came and got seated at the bar, it was small but very intimate feeling and the ambiance was perfect! Plus we were the only one there before other reservation parties started to come in. We both chose the 12 piece omakase for $80. And boy it was not a disappointment! Every piece of fish melted in our mouth and the fish was so fresh and so good with the chefs own touch to the sushi! Before going here, definitely recommend to make a reservation first or you'll be turn away without having any! Mostly definitely will come back for special occasions!
Be the first to ReplyFrom start to finish, this Omakase experience was top notch.
I did the 10 piece Omakase set and it was all delicious. From the ocean trout to the seared fatty tuna, every bite was delicious and flavorful. Customer service was amazing. They were all so nice and caring and really made this experience 5 stars. Not only was the sushi delicious but the desserts as well. The roasted tea pudding was 10/10. We had to order another one to go. We pretty much consumed it right when we got home.Definitely will be coming back!

I came here with the girlfriend to celebrate her birthday with the omakase. We each had the 12 pc omakase with a recommended sake. Overall we had an amazing experience, the owner Ben and his wife explained piece of nigiri and created a inviting and warm environment for us to enjoy dinner. The fatty tuna nigiri was my favorite as it was so butter and a deep tuna flavor. I highly recommend this place for both the food and the people.
Be the first to ReplyA sweet surprise.
My friend and I were looking for a half-decent sushi place nearby and stumbled upon this little gem. It's literally hidden at the very end of a dark plaza. Luckily we called before coming and they were able to take us. It's a very cozy little spot, and they strategically try not to seat too many people in order to provide a good experience. Besides bar seating there were probably only 2 other large tables. We chose the 12 course omakase with appetizer. Everything from the start was amazing. Our favorite was the monkfish liver and Hokkaido uni. I was worried to be overstuffed, but was perfectly full and satisfied. The restaurant is owned by a young Japanese couple who value true authenticity in sushi, freshness, and carefully curated menu that is handwritten daily. My friend and I enjoyed our entire experience here, and getting to know the owners. We can't wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyThe best omakase I've had at such an affordable price.
Heads up that it is on the bland side so you can taste the fish better. We didn't want to ask for soy sauce. Certain cuts and combos were more flavorful. It was so good that I had to get additional toro and uni. I am definitely coming back.Heads up, you have to call and make a reservation.
