Dinner at Tantra.
Nice surroundings, friendly helpful staff and excellent food. Service was fast and efficient and the food was plentiful and well cooked
Be the first to ReplyFabulous food. Poor service.
This is a beautiful restaurant with so much potential. It was very quiet and sadly this may be due to the lack of service and experience of the staff. The food was excellent. It would be a winner if they could work on staff training.
Be the first to ReplyGood diner
We had a very good diner. Staff was welcoming. Chicken tikka massala was fresh and tasty. Nice modern restaurant, plenty of choice.
Be the first to ReplyGood but not as good as expected
The food was very nice and the staff were pleasant but was shocked by the state of the toilets, they needed attention. There was a mix up with our starter order and we were then billed for items we didn't order. Attention to detail needed in this restaurant, lots of competition in the area, and wouldn't be a first choice to recommend now. We went based on a review in The Guardian, perhaps its needs another review....
Be the first to ReplyBest Indian food experience in Edinburgh!
My wife and myself had a 3 course meal here in January 2024. For starters we had a sharing crisp board (poppadums and dips), chilli chicken and Malabar steak bites. All three of these dishes were possibly some of the nicest starters ever had. The crisp board sharing dish was incredible. The presentation was 10/10 and the flavours of all the different poppadums and chutneys/dips was such good combinations. Great start to the meal. The steak bites were heavenly. Cooked perfectly, fall apart, melt in your mouth with supplementary spices to help bring out the amazing flavour of the meat. The chilli chicken dish was full of flavour. Sweet, sticky and spicy glaze on the chicken with a fantastic mix of peppers and onions to get the palette in the mood for the mains For mains we had tantric lamb chops, nawabi nalli ghost (lamb shank) and both of these were incredible. Again the presentation was 10/10 some of the best presentation ever seen and the flavours matched. Undoubtedly some of the best lamb chops we have ever had. 3 large lamb chops. The meat was juicy, succulent and tender with perfect coating of spices. The lamb shank fell off the bone and was perfectly combined with a curry sauce. On the side we had a pilau rice and Peshwari naan. The naan was presented really nice also and had a great crisp to it. For desserts we had sizzling brownie and tandai mousse. The sizzling brownie was one of the coolest presented puddings ever. The brownie comes in a sizzler hot plate and when the hot chocolate sauce is poured over it bubbles on the bottom creating an amazing hot chocolate sauce which accompanies the brownie and ice cream perfectly. The tandai mousse was a fantastic dessert to clean the palette after such a wonderful meal. Let’s not forget the cocktails. This restaurant has one of the best selection of cocktails in Edinburgh. We had the tantra Buddha cocktail. This was a sharing cocktail with a lovely citrus taste. The presentation in the Buddha with the smoke was very cool. Enough to share between 4 people easily. The service was first class. Staff couldn’t do enough for you. All things considered a perfect dining experience at very reasonable price considering the quality. If you like Indian food please make sure you come here I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Be the first to ReplyThe best Indian food I’ve ever had!
From start to finish this experience was amazing. To unique signature cocktails you won’t find anywhere else to an amazing menu… we couldn’t fault anything! The presentation is the best we’ve ever seen! 10/10!
Be the first to ReplyWarmth in winter.
Had an early Christmas dinner with friends. Didn't try their Christmas menu but whatever we had from the normal menu was delicious. Service was a bit on the slower side may be due to a busy night but they were super friendly and polite. The cocktails we had tasted were the best. This place has its own charecter. Will be back.
Be the first to ReplyWorst customer service in the capital
Avoid this place. My wife and I shopping in Edinburgh yesterday. Thought give a try. We ordered our starter which can only be described as shredded bits of batter. No pakora in site. We ordered drinks when seated .had to ask twice where they where. Starter was served if you can call it that. Still no drinks. I then had to walk up to the bar again to ask where is our drinks. Eventually they brought them. £14 for a glass of poorest red wine ever. Wife asked for water. They brought over the jug then removed it again. Then had to ask twice again for water. Absolute shambles and worst customer service I have experienced for a capital city. Also 2 tables near us complaining as well. Asking who is in charge. To be told manager off. I have had better customer experience in a local McDonald's. Avoid . Avoid avoid
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience
Unfortunately, not a great experience me and my girlfriends had a booking for 8.15pm and we were left waiting till 9pm and still no table. We were asked to wait in what was described to us as the holding area. Later we were offered a table in the same area. This was very disappointing as the area was cold, dark and away from the main seating area within the resaurant. We wanted to experience the atmosphere and ambience within the resaurant and felt this option was not reasonable. Finally a table was offered to us in the main resaurant but unfortunately by this time we had decided to eat elsewhere. Unfortunately management were not helpful and the level of customer service definitely needs improving overall very disappointing!

This was recommended by a friend and glad that we went. Nicely fitted out restaurant with a different menu to the ones that you would expect to find in an Indian restaurant The young staff were also very friendly (and patient) when asked to explain some of the dishes!

Great food and wonderful staff. It's not just great food but a wonderful experience. Must visit if you are in Edinburgh
Be the first to ReplyTerrible waiter service
I was still sitting on my chair when the first waitress arrived wanting to know what we wanted to drink. We ordered, then she brought it quickly alongside with the menu. Then, not even a minute after she came again asking our order (we barely had time to look at it!!) then we said we weren't ready. In the next 5 minutes, we were asked another 4 times if we were ready, from 3 different waitresses. 3 waitresses, asked us 5 times in a window of 5 minutes if we were ready, i mean, what the f...??? After eating, no one bothered to clear the table to make a space for new drinks, even though the waiters stood in the middle of the room doing nothing. Furthermore, the restaurant was not busy despite being a saturday night, so there was no excuse for the poor service I received. I understand that restaurants can get busy, but this was not the case during my visit. Great food, great cocktails, but terrible service.

Be the first to ReplyPathetic experience for Lunch
I would like to share a pathetic experience with Tantra Restaurant, Edinburgh for lunch we had today. We ordered 'Tantric Sizzler Sample' from the main menu but the waiter served us more costlier 'Tantric Sizzler sharing for 2', on asking that items are not as per menu mentioned, then he replied that alternate items served in 'Tantric Sizzler Sample' as some items in that menu not available. But when the bill arrived we came to know that he gave us totally different dish and lied that he served us 'Tantric Sizzler Sample' and charged extra for that, even though we hadn't ordered that dish and while asking he never said that the menu itself was changed. This was a total mess by the waiter and we had to pay extra for the menu which we hadn't ordered. Not sure if this mess happens more often, as there was not much rush during late afternoon time at around 2.30pm we visited for lunch, still he served us the wrong dish. Surely we will not visit this place again

Underwhelmed is all I can say. We arrived at approx 3pm on a Saturday afternoon & there was 1 other table dining. We got a seat and were given the menus. We ordered 4 small dishes, 2 cocktails and were offered a mocktail for our daughter. One of the cocktails we ordered was a “pre-launch” based on the caroline Herrera perfume bottles so the cocktail comes in the shoe shaped bottle but it’s had some gems and ribbon and paint added to it. Looked great, tasted like the perfume was still in the bottle :(. The other cocktail was a spicy martini served with a habanero chilli garnish. It was served in a glass dome filled with smoke so the presentation was great. Tasted lovely but it’s definitely spicy on first sip so only order if you’re a fan of spice. We ordered xplosions, bone marrow, crab & the trio dish. (Sorry can’t remember the exact names). They were in the small plates section and they didn’t lie!! The trio was 3 different coloured dumplings, horrible texture, barely any flavour & 1 bite each. The bone marrow was average, it did however come with the most delicious dip!! But again, 1 mouthful from the bone & gone. The crab was poor. A friend visited a few weeks ago & raved about it saying the aromatic Indian spices were amazing. Other than being flat, and more batter than meat, the overpowering flavour of fish was all we could taste. No aromatic or Indian anything! And lastly the explosions….well, 5 tiny crunchy baskets with a half teaspoon filling & a pomegranate seed on top…not even sure what to say! It was served with 5 test tubes of coloured liquid. (We found out at the end of the meal that they are for pouring over… might’ve been handy to know that when the dish arrived) We asked for more drinks as the food arrived. Had to ask again 15 mins later (another 2 tables had arrived by this point) we ordered a gin & tonic & water. The water came straight away and the gin arrived as the plates were being cleared & we asked for the bill! The servers are more concerned about the presentation, effect & reaction of their “wow factor” than the standard, and for us, the quality of food just isn’t there. £85 for an afternoon snack & a couple of drinks! We ended up getting takeaway on the way home! We won’t be back which is a shame because the description of the restaurant & the menu is outstanding.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and service!
First time I’ve visited this restaurant and will definitely be going back. Food was amazing and the service was great too. I was with a group of friends and they really looked after us.
Be the first to ReplySouth Indian fine dining.
We have dined at Tantra many times during our Edinburgh trip in October. The food was delicious, cosy environment and for me, Keralite and South Indian dishes feels homely. The staff were so friendly and warm welcoming. We would love to visit Tantra again for the next trip. Thank you.
Be the first to ReplyA different Indian.
A different style from the standard Indian fare. Food was well presented and delicious, one dish had dry ice as an adornment, which was different but provided no enhancement to the food. Overall, all starters and mains were good. Drinks were pricey though.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent presentation and ambience
What I really loved it, was the way the food was presented. Taste was alright, I would say similar to any other good curry house. Great location, close to high street and Edinburgh castle.
