We have eaten here several times before deciding to leave a review. The staff are 5 stars, very polite and attentive. Omelets consistently good. Pancakes range from really good to rubbery. The dedication of 2 stars is that many of the items are not well prepared/cooked. Waffle fries often cold and not crisp, side breakfast potatoes are soft and not the greatest flavor and if you are vegan forget about it here. It was recommended by a server that they could make the corn beef hash vegan by subbing vegetables for beef. For $19, it was on order of breakfast potatoes with literally 2 tablespoons of vegetable. Today ordered the BLT, subbing avocado for the bacon and literally got 2 small leaves of lettuce, 3 super thinly sliced pieces of tomatoes and no more than 1/4 of a small avocado. The tomato and avocado was a thin strip across the middle of the sandwich and 1/3 of bread had nothing in it. I keep saying I won't go back but my n other half loves their omelette and pancakes. I just wish they would be more attentive to quality and detail.

In 1946 the incomparable Lady Day record the jazz tune, "Sunny Side of The Street." She sings, "Grab your coat and get your hat. Leave your worry on the doorstep. Just direct your feet. To the sunny side of the street." I couldn't have said it any better Ms. Holiday. Whether you find yourself with feet draggin or a hoppin an a skippin take a chance and step on through the great big birch door at the Birch Door Cafe. Soak in the jazz classics like they're coming from the original vinyl. Transport back in time to your grandparents. Take a seat by the window and soak in the spring rays that WA so greedily clings to. Expect smiles and laughter amongst the patrons and staff on a mellow morning. You won't be sitting for long before your first cup of brown nectar is poured, and don't for get the fresh squeezed OJ. Now you're getting the picture. The eggs Benedict is creamy. The pancakes are larger than expected, and the potatoes are stacked high like the Cascades. If that's not enough though, and you need your ModSocks blown completely off, order the Apple Pancake. It's fluffy, custardy, and sent from the Bellingham ferries astride a corgi directly to your woody table. So fly on in during a weekday and sit by the sun soaked windows. Listen to the local line crew talk about installs and outages, and hear the wait staff joke with one another. Or, best of all, just focus on the one you love and take in the wonderful meal before you begin your morning gear up. Quid Pro Quo though... The weekends are buszzzzzy so expect a 20 to 40 minute wait if you arrive on a Saturday or Sunday at 9-11am. There is no making reservations period... Sometimes when they bring the syrup it's been freshly rinsed off and placed in a small custard cup.(Thx) But, the water gathers at the bottom and if you're not careful the water will drip on your food while you pour your syrup. Breakfast foul! C'est la vie mon amie. That is life my friends. That is life.
Be the first to ReplyBest breakfast in Bellingham with so many good options.
Hard to have a bad thing to say.
Be the first to ReplyA fabulous restaurant with great food and service.
No wonder it has quite the following. Open for breakfast and lunch can't go wrong here. Consistently great food and service!
Be the first to ReplyThe staff and the food are wonderful.
It's noisy and hard to hear each other, making people talk even louder. The food is out of the world. Recipes of many nationalitys.

This place exceeded all my expectations, my wife picked this place out on Easter Sunday after church. We waited about 45 minutes, meanwhile my daughter and I were getting hangry! Well worth the wait. I had the Mexican omelette, their omelettes are on point. They are airy and just super tasty, if I had anything negative to say about the omelette it would be I would appreciate some more protein in the omelette. Their breakfast dishes usually come with their house made pancakes, they do something special to their dough (not box made) that makes these the best short stack in town. Can't wait to take family here once they come to visit, well done Birch Door Cafe staff!
Be the first to ReplyWe tried this cafe on a trip to Bellingham, WA.
It is very popular, evident by how full the parking lot was. Lots of seating so even though there was a line as we walked in, we were seated promptly. Large menu to choose from! We had the Biscuits and Gravy and the Corned Beef Hash. Both were ample in size. The Biscuits and Gravy tasted great! There was 1 large, homemade biscuit covered in a wonderfully unique gravy. It had sausage and bacon bits in an herbal sauce. The Corned Beef Hash had large chunks of corned beef laying on a bed of smashed potatoes. Both came with 2 eggs but we asked for only 1 each. We each took half of the meal home. The wait staff was exceptionally attentive and friendly. I will be returning here when I come back to Bellingham.
Be the first to ReplyWe waited for about 40 minutes on a Sunday morning.
It was conveniently located near the main road. The restaurant ambiance was made to look like a cozy home with antiques. It was quaint! Sadly, our meals weren't very memorable. The omelette was good in size but not very tasty. Overall, it was good portions and the service was great! Really can't go wrong with breakfast.
Be the first to ReplyFlavorful breakfast served in a pleasant environment.
Service was good; though, it would have been exceptional if the kitchen was faster in turning out the orders. All-in-all I will be back
Be the first to ReplyThe staff has always been very kind and courteous to me.
They're quick to respond and helpful. The food here is...decent. I've only been here for breakfast and while the portions were plentiful, the taste left a lot to be desired. Everything was bland and uninteresting. For the price I paid for breakfast here (it was a LOT) I would expect much higher quality food.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding! Finally.
I can come to this area of Bellingham and be able to eat good food. The scramble was so good and was smashing with flavour. I love the huge windows. I'll be back!
Be the first to Replylast two times the food has been poorly prepared.
last week potatoes were brunt to a crip. Today a simple stack of buttermilk pancakes( which cost $15 ) was just neat on the plated side, but almost black on the reverse and tough. place is always slow and pricey. If the food was properly prepared ,that would be ok last time. BTW said something to server and young girl obviously was not trained on how to handle this situation. if she said anything to a supervisor or not I don't know
Be the first to ReplyPro tip, go the last hour before closing for a shorter wait.
Everything was fantastic. Would be my go two if I lived closer. Two kids chocolate chip pancake meals and a wonderful Benedict for me.

Love this place, always a slight wait but worth it for me in my opinion. Foods amazing and service was great as well! Worth the visit if you're in the area.
Be the first to ReplyI have been wanting to go here for a really long time.
I hear about it from friends and family and I can gladly say it lives up to the hype. The service was good, the food was yummy and plentiful and the vibe was super cozy and cute.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the first Yelp review I've written but I feel that
This is the first Yelp review I've written but I feel that Birch Door is so above and beyond that I needed to add one. I had heard about Birch Door for a while and knew that it was a bit on the spendy side, but we decided to go for a celebration. We couldn't have chosen better! Our server, Grace, was friendly, warm, and informative. I have a strong dislike for black pepper and she brought out a small dish of the country gravy for me to check - it was delicious! I ended up getting the eggs benedict and the hollandaise was also superb. When my wife ordered coffee with 1/2&1/2, the response was "Would heavy cream be ok?" Uhm...YEAH! The potatoes were fantastic - some were crispy and some weren't - so the perfect combo. The apple pancake served to the table next to us looked amazing - we'll have to get it the next time. It was ENORMOUS! 2' tall and encompassed an entire plate! Clearly meant for a whole table to share. The potatoes and the country gravy were both so good, I may just get sides of those on my next visit. Honestly, the menu is so large and inviting it would take many trips to be able to try everything! A great big thumbs up!

After an hour wait had the best breakfast! I thoroughly enjoyed the Blueberry Lemon Cobbler French Toast. My friend got the Country Biscuit that huge and came with eggs which was delicious, but with heavy sauce. Also, she got Viennese coffee that yummy. The prices weren't cheap, but the food and service were excellent. The decor at their Sequim sister location is better.
Be the first to ReplyBirch Door is always in the rotation for me.
The Food is always delicious and the service is awesome. Only advice is to be prepared to wait. This place is popular and isn't a hole in the wall in Bellingham.

I was searching for coffee nearby and realized that The Birch Door Cafe was right next to us lol. There's some parking outside. The entrance door is beautiful and what I loved the most about this cafe was the enticing smell inside. There's branded merchandise, including coffee, at the entrance. The seating area has huge ceiling and large windows. The menu has a message from the owners with the origin of the cafe and how they locally source ingredients. It was lovely to learn about this. The staff is very friendly and were always smiling. I had to try the seasonal drink, white chocolate rasperry mocha. It looked so pretty and the whipped cream had a hint of coffee in it. Though it was sweeter than my preference, it was a good drink overall. The hubby liked his chai latte. We also got the croissant, which came with in house butter, which was amazing!
Be the first to ReplyHad an amazing brunch experience with my elderly parents.
While it was a long way on a Sunday, it was worth every bite!
Be the first to ReplyThe Birch Door always does it! Although you must get there
The Birch Door always does it! Although you must get there earlier than you actually plan on eating because it is so busy, the food is to die for. The hot cocoa, coffee, and mimosas are also magnificent! It is a bit pricey, but worth it. The large windows offer great ambiance, and the staff is usually very friendly! You must try the blueberry cobbler french toast!

How on earth have I never been here before??? This is my new FAVORITE breakfast place in Bellingham! My server Madelynn was fabulous! When I asked about GF (gluten free) options she was quick to help me with the menu. She was caring and helpful and did not disappoint. I had the gluten free version of eggs Benedict and ask for the potatoes to be extra cooked. It was prepared as asked and they don't upcharge for the GF bread!!! Bonus!!!The view from my table was delightful... I highly recommend The Birch door!!! Yummy
Be the first to ReplyLiterally everything is great about this place.
#1, the coffee is unusually good, #2 the cream for the coffee is some kind of ultra-fresh-from-a-cow-down-the-road kind of deliciousness. The food is also just as good. The employees are also very nice, helpful and kind. We learned that some items are really big servings that can easily work for 2 people. Went here every single day while visiting Bellingham & loved every visit!!

I had read about the Birch Door a few years back and wanted to try their food. I now totally regret having gone there. We were seated fairly quickly, we placed our order and got served coffee at least three times while waiting a very long time for the VERY EXPENSIVE German pancakes then our small side order came wrong so more waiting. Maybe this was an off day but those German pancakes were just awful. The eggs were not completely blended and the pancakes turned grey when cut into which seemed odd. This breakfast for two people cost over $60.00 before the tip. Pretty big disappointment.
