Spouse and I have eaten here two times before, and had good service and food. Went there yesterday as wanted a nice meal before the anticipated storm. What a mistake!
We saw that there was a group of approximately 20 persons in the private party room, and approximately 8 people in the main dining room, but thought the restaurant was capable of handling this. Well, they were not!
There were only 2 servers-a woman I know as Jeannie from prior visits, and another server who seemed totally flustered and out of it. We were seated, and given menus, and then waited half an hour for someone to approach us. I thought of leaving, but spouse said that we are here already, and hungry, so let's see.
After waiting half an hour, we literally had to chase down clueless server to take our order, and she was so flustered that Jeannie had to come over. Meantime, clueless had slammed down the complimentary coleslaw (cabbage w/mayo) and some stale rolls.
Our orders were taken, and I repeatedly asked for coffee w/milk...and asked and asked. Meantime Jeannie was doting on the party of 8 nearby, joking with the diners, taking great care regarding some kid's desire to have her salad exactly as she has it at home.
Repeatedly had to ask for water and spouse's iced tea. Lukewarm soup was slapped down in front of us (appetizer order). Wrong salad dressing despite, again, repeated requests for the correct one.
I had asked for my wasabi salmon to be cooked through and spouse for his meat to be medium cooked. My salmon was RAW in the center and spouse's meat was bloody. I had mine sent back, clearly was shoved under a broiler. Spouse put up with the bloody meat. Jeannie was annoyed that I actually wanted my food cooked.
Jeannie spent an inordinate amount of time with the party of 8 near us. Whenever I asked for something (water or coffee refill, non-stale bread) she theatrically sighed, said that there were only 2 servers, and we have to put up with it. Funnily though, although we were treated as annoying intruders, the restaurant expected and was paid the same amount by us as the doted upon other diners.
WILL NOT RETURN. Jeannie made it clear that since she recognized us from prior visits, that we have to put up with garbage treatment.
When we wanted to leave after this mediocre (at best) meal and deplorable service, we asked clueless server to get the bill since we did not see Jeannie. Clueless was putting out napkins for the dinner diners, who were not yet there at 4 pm. She ignored us, and I literally had to chase her around the dining room for the check, while she continued to set up for non-existent dinner diners.
A restaurant has two main components: food and service. Yesterday, each was worse than the other.
Yes, I blame management for not having sufficient servers, but why did Jeannie give all her attention to a party of 8 and ignore us? It seemed she felt she could take advantage of our prior good will, good review, and lavish tips, and take us for granted.
Well, bye bye Jeannie! Bye bye Clueless ! Bye bye Briars There are so much better restaurants in the area, which we will happily patronize.
