The Chemistry Room New York Reviews from The Last Year
I did the 15-course Omakasa for $125.
The food was good, but I will not say is Great. None of the dishes wow me. the service was excellent and very attentive. The sushi chef loves to entertain. The ambiance is nicely done.
The lock of hotel room broken, luggage of 4 kids stuck inside for a whole night. Total incompetence of hotel management.
2nd night the lock of our hotel room was broken, could not access, luggage of our 4 kids (one is 5 months old), baby food, clothes stuck inside for a whole night. Only a trainee receptionist present in the hotel during the whole night, no technician, no management. Management only shown up at 8 in the morning. When management finally arrived, there was no communication, no explanation, no apologies, no compensation offered, unless we asked for it. Total incapability of hotel management staff to handle the situation. Waiting for 12 hours, finally they could open the door at 9 a.m.
Loved this place! It's right next to its sister restaurant
Loved this place! It's right next to its sister restaurant Sushi Lab. The sushi was fresh and delicious and they mixed in some great kitchen items (esp loved the pasta). Decent selection of wine and cocktails and they have us a free glass of champagne for my friend's birthday, along with a chocolate birthday sign with her dessert (a delicious black sesame cheesecake). Highly recommend!
My husband and I had an omakase dinner at The Chemistry
My husband and I had an omakase dinner at The Chemistry Room last month before a play at a theater nearby. Overall, it was pretty good - lots of courses and great cocktails. 17 courses - most I really enjoyed. My favorites were the tile fish, sake cured mullet roe over pasta, mushroom medley rice, and the sea bream. The courses came out quickly (it was a fast omakase), and the explanations were great and very descriptive. The drinks were also great - we shared some sake that was recommended by a staff member and then had a couple of cocktails as well (I looooooved their Midori Sour). The service was great - very attentive and yet not distracting from the experience. The restaurant is beautiful. The experience didn't stand out from the other omakase experiences I've had, but it was a delicious, fun meal - a great spot for a meal before the theater.
Poor unfriendly and dirty
My partner stayed here and pubic hair was found on the toilet it seems like the room was not ready also no curtains so she could not sleep on the first night. The lady on reception has zero customer service skills and totally ignored her. Also no flexibility at all as was she 2 euros short and offered to pay by card which was refused. Overall an unfriendly experience will go somewhere else next time
I did not have the omakase so can't speak to that
I did not have the omakase so can't speak to that experience. The food was fine but the menu is limited at best and pretty pricey. We had the dry aged katsu sandwich, some maki rolls, and the edamame.
The food from this place was honestly delicious.
So many courses and all of them bangers. We love omakase and have never had such a fun culinary experience. Will be going back.
love coming back here , one of my favorite in the city
love coming back here , one of my favorite in the city that's very affordable. We came for early dinner at 5pm for their first seating on Valentine's Day. there's no a la cart for the night only the $125 set menu. the menu is completely different than when i last visited. there are new favorites and some less desirable. the whole meal lasted about 1.5 hrs , the house was full and the chefs were so busy but that didnt stop them to provide the exellect food and service.
This omakase experience blew me away with very innovative
This omakase experience blew me away with very innovative and tasty 15 pieces of sushi! Actually, it's a total of 17 items since they start you with miso soup (served in a beaker infused with smoke) and end with a dessert. A variety of ingredients I've never tried before: sea grapes (may be vegan caviar), cured mullet roe (not fishy at all), Ossetra caviar, ocean trout, etc. First time ever eating fish SCALES and not choke! Japanese tile fish scales broiled over fire crumbled in my mouth like crispy crackers. Creative combinations of truffle slices, gold flecked roe, quail eggs, Sakura leaves, miniature lotus stems, baby shrimp. Watching the chefs slice, season, roll, torch and smoke was like being in a chemistry lab! Almost as entertaining as watching a Broadway show! Very friendly waitstaff and plenty of good drinks. Clean, bright and modern premise with enough space to walk around between tables and chairs. I was never a fan of omakase: overpriced and not enough creativity. Other sushi places in midtown are double the price here and anything cheaper is non-impressive. Chemistry Room provides upscale food at a reasonable fee: this makes it truly worthwhile!
came here for their omakase tasting menu, definitely
came here for their omakase tasting menu, definitely recommend making a reservation. they do not do take out. its a small and intimate dining experience. side note, they do offer regular dining!! the table next to us got the shrimp and truffle pasta and it smelled sooo good. anyway, the omakase was 15 pieces for $125. we also did handrolls for $25 each. my favorite was definitely the scallop and uni as runner up. my husband loves the mushroom oyster truffle rice over anything!! downer was that their omakase set doesnt offer waygu. their sister restaurant the sushi lab is next door and i believe their omakase offers wagyu and set price is the same. originally we wanted to do sake pairing with the set but turns out its just wine and 3 other sakes to pair with this 15 course so we opted for cocktails instead. their cocktails did not disappoint - the pearfection was SO GOOD. id go back just to get that drink haha overall bill was about $430 before tip which is pretty standard for good omakase with couple of drinks and a handroll for top off so no complaints here. i wonder if they switch up their menus according to seasons, but ill definitely be back!
This restaurant totally ruined our Valentine's Day, despite
This restaurant totally ruined our Valentine's Day, despite our best efforts. I have some serious food intolerances. My partner and I are used to this being a huge issue when we eat out, so we take every precaution. He wrote in my food intolerances when making the reservation and also had a text conversation (included here) to triple check that they would be able to accomodate the dietary restrictions. They said yes. We also confirmed in the text conversation that they would be able to seat us side by side and they also said yes. However, when we got there, they were unable to accomodate ANY of our previously confirmed requests. They did not know what FODMAPs were and when the chef looked it up (which they should have done in advance, not after we got there), he rudely told us that we should've checked their website, which states they cannot accomodate a gluten intolerance, so logic follows that they wouldn't be able to accomodate mine either, which contradicts the text conversation we had with their staff. At this point it was 6pm on Valentine's Day. We called and checked online for dozens of restaurants to try and find a spot to eat. We were able to find Oceana nearby but we were unable to do our typical due diligence in advance because we had been derailed by The Chemistry Room, and when we got there and explained the dietary restrictions they also were unable to accomodate. We tried another spot and another. All the same. In the end we thought we had no choice but to go back home without eating, but luckily a reservation got put up at SHINN EAST and I snagged it. Without any advance notice they were able to accomodate *all* of our requests at SHINN EAST - FODMAP free, kosher, side by side. It's not that hard, really. And there are no excuses when you've had advance notice multiple ways. At least tell the customer accurately that you can't accomodate instead of overpromising and underdelivering. I highly recommend avoiding this spot if you have any sort of dietary restrictions.
After a few visits to Sushi Lab, my sister and I decided it
After a few visits to Sushi Lab, my sister and I decided it was time to try their sister restaurant located inside the same hotel. As expected, The Chemistry Room was phenomenal! Each course from our omakase experience was unique, fresh & flavorful. Sitting at the counter is the best way to interact with the chefs, who are more than happy to explain the menu and where they've sourced each fish. All of the staff were very friendly and pleasant. We started off with the smoked miso soup, which surprisingly was one of my favorite courses! Another star of the show was the angel hair pasta with goma soy & sesame paste sauce. I loved that we were provided with a printed menu of what we would be enjoying throughout our meal. Overall, we had an incredible meal, complete with delicious cocktails and cozy atmosphere. Undoubtedly, we will be back!
15 € parking fee but they wont wash the car for you in that price
Stayed here for one night and must say i was impressed of the lovely comfortable beds ,but that was it,the beds were fantastic i must admit and the view to the Doom church but that was about it.Reception was great good tips from the lady about restaurants ,lovely from her to inform us they will chrage us 15€ for parking our car downstairs( they wont wash it either for that price),and ask us if we have any allergies for the breakfast .Ya...talking about that breakfast : eggs are not for everybody s taste im sure im not the only one,and the bread rolls were undercooked and baked cheese or whatever that was is too cold to eat and tasteless.Place was clean but the WC smells funny probably from the products they use to clean which stink like cheap .Level of the hotel is ok but for the prices they charge its way lower quality. And the project architect who organised these room and the bathroom sink is deffo not a master and needs to rethink .Baby bed was nice to have in the room but if not requested in advance takes too much place in the room .Appreciated the Islam tv channels too .Owners should inform in the website about the charge for parking as in all the hotels i stayed in Europe nobody charged for this and deffo not 15€!!Overall a nice experience but needs improvement in many aspects .Though thanks for having us but for this price i would look for another next time i visit Szeged .
Very nice modern hotel
Very nice, modern design. Very well maintained and clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Underground parking costs €15 per day. Extensive breakfast buffet. Rooms are spacious. In a quiet location. Can only recommend it.......
Good for short stay
The breakfast is wonderful and the beds are comfortable. Unfortunately the staff are not responsive or accommodating. Don’t recommend more than a one night stay. I had many issues with the A/C, windows not opening properly, smoking section below my window, and insects.

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
