The Dandelion was just around the corner from our hotel and we walked by it a few times on our way to here and there, admiring the building’s exterior. I’m not a fan of typical British pub food, so I wasn’t too keen on dining there. But after seeing the menu online, I gave in to my husband’s suggestions to try it. We had a reservation (recommended) and were seated at a tiny second floor table. Our server was very nice and attentive throughout the meal. We started out with their stout bread which had a soft pillow of yumminess on the inside, and a delicious crust on the outside. A shared Waldorf salad was really good, and plenty for two. The romaine lettuce was super fresh, and combined with the other ingredients’ flavors, it was fantastic. For our mains, I had the mussels and my husband had the tandoori chicken. Some of the mussels (all a large size) were a bit sandy, and overall could have used a pinch of salt, but the broth was light and refreshing. The bread that came with the bucket was perfect for soaking up the sauce. I tried a bite of the generous portion of chicken and it was quite tender and very good. For dessert we shared a sticky pudding, but for me it was just OK. The atmosphere upstairs is crowded, but very cozy. We felt like we were in an old London pub. There is a third floor for diners which we didn’t see. I’d definitely return to The Dandelion if I were visiting Philly again. The building itself is worth a stop, with the added bonus of terrific food.
