The Dolphin Tavern Penzance Reviews from The Last Year
Very nice Pub
We had lunch at the Dolphin Tavern, always very good/ fresh food the crab sandwiches are a Must. Very friendly service. For dinner it is best to book a table in advance, as it gets very crowded some days. Nice terras when the weather is sunny. We would recommend this place
Would not recommend
I cannot speak for the hotel as we did not stay there but The food was of average quality but over priced and the customer service was poor to the point that we felt unwelcome, no check backs were done even after we’d eaten and no attempt to interact with us, would not return.
Friendly Busy Pub
Four of us visited twice and both times, as it was very busy, there was quite a wait for food but we were informed of this. Food was hot and nicely presented. The cod and chips was very good and a seafood linguine was excellent, my wife said. The sizzling dishes were a great success with my brother in law. On the second visit my special dish was lemon sole and although very tasty I found the portion too small. The Pinot Grigio was of good quality although a little pricey. The staff are lovely and there is good atmosphere in the pub.We will definitely return when next in Penzance. You are advised to book in advance, even on weekdays.
I enjoyed our dinner at the Dolphin.
The menu had a lot of promising options. Everything was hot, fresh, and tasty. My friend ordered the fish chowder. Mmm, that was good. I got the fish and chips, which is always a good choice. Someone else at the table got the chicken wings. I'd avoid that as it's the only dish that didn't have a hearty portion. The service was fine as was the ambiance. I'd go there again. .... and I hear the place is haunted. I didn't see any ghosts, but... lol

The pub boasts charming lighting and impeccably clean toilets, making it comfortable for even the most germaphobic individuals( *cough* me *cough*) The patrons and staff were friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere, and the drinks were excellent. Beth's presence alone is worth a perfect 10 rating, making a return visit a must. 💕
Great service, pleasant food
We went on a wet Sunday evening without a reservation and were surprised to find the pub so busy, mainly with diners (definitely more of a restaurant than a pub). I would say that the food was fine rather than amazing (I found my hake a bit overcooked) but full marks for the service, which was very friendly, quick and efficient.
Ultra clean with exceptional service
When we arrived we were welcomed into our room at 11 as the room was available. The slight smell of fresh paint and the immaculate clean decor was impressive. Our room was overlooking the Scillonian ship. We had a beautiful room with a lovely shower room. Our shower was large and very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. Staff were so friendly and attentive. Breakfast was excellent. We were very impressed and will definitely stay here again.
Perfect play for a drink or food.
Stopped off here for a drink. What a fabulous pub. Beautiful inside and very friendly bar staff. If we hadn’t of had other arrangements we would have eaten there too. Menu , home cooked food was good and food we saw being served looked fabulous. Lots of empty plates. We will be back. Loved the quiz cards too on the tables.
Superb
Stayed on a cold wet February evening to watch the pirates v RN Staff were alll very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic and plenty of it. Room was lovely and bright and clean with harbour views. Would stay here again if in Penzance.
Weekend break
I highly recommend the Dolphin Tavern to stay and socialise in. We stayed 2 nights. The room was clean and comfortable and had tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and bottled water available. The staff were all super friendly and efficient and we felt like we had known them for years by the time we left. We had dinner in the evening and it was delicious and good value. All freshly cooked to order as was breakfast. We will definitely be returning soon.
Fish and chips were fresh and so tasty.
They had a non alcoholic cocktail list which a I loved. Cute outdoor seating if it's a nice day. Service was maybe a little slow.
