Sadly didn’t live up to my first visit! Disappointing
Had a wonderful dinner here end of March on a quiet Thursday evening. The meal and service was exceptional and was just sorry that I hadn’t tried it sooner. Decided to take my parents there a couple of weeks later for my mother’s birthday. Was Friday and notably busier than my previous visit. Sadly, it didn’t live up to the first time. I had the same starter ( duck salad) it was completely different than before sadly. My mother had it on my recommendation and hers was sadly drowning in the sauce. My mother and I chose the Picanha steak for main and it was basically inedible. Tough, couldn’t chew it and generally bad cut of meat. Dad had the duck and said it was extremely fatty. Complained to waiter and it went unacknowledged apart from we got offered was a glass of dessert wine. At £34 for a main which we both hardly touched, I thought this was a poor effort. This is not a cheap place to eat but sadly it did not impress at all second time, even the service was not as good. Sadly I have been put off from trying it again.
Be the first to ReplyExpensive and not worth it
There were four of us we were eventually shown to our table, but were not shown where to hang our coats it took them 20 minutes to give us a menu and offer a drink ! Not even a glass of water! The restaurant was not busy so there was no excuse. The meal when it came was mediocre. Recommendation: there are much better places around.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic experience but be prepared to pay for the pleasure!
The location and accommodation were perfect, a real get away from civilisation. We planned on eating from the 6 course taster menu as it was my wife's Birthday however neither of us were blown away by more than three of the six courses so opted instead for the ala carte menu. Our starters were delicious, duck salad with pomegranate, blood orange and feta along with a portion of stick pork belly bites. For main course I opted for saddle of venison and my wife opted for a steak. Both dishes were delicious, the service brilliant and the atmosphere perfect. I never mind paying for great food and a good experience but I did think this was overly expensive for what was served. Two tiny slices of venison beautifully presented did not warrant the price I'm afraid, otherwise no criticism and we would return again if visiting the area. Not saying anything was bad at all but I have had better for less in other highly rated establishments.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing and very average service.
Being honest, I’ve come away feeling disappointed with the overall experience, which is really sad considering it was for such a special occasion (my husband’s 50th). The message hadn’t got through to the member of staff who greeted us on arrival that our friends being there was a surprise. Despite the weeks of planning, the surprise was spoilt on when he confirmed in front of my husband that ‘your friends are here already’. I let it go because I didn’t want to make a fuss, but felt really let down with the lack of care, attention to detail and communication between staff. We went on to enjoy drinks in the bar and then the six course taster menu. The food was absolutely delicious and can’t be faulted. However, the service, and general attentiveness was very average. This wasn’t what we expected, as I’d hoped to make my husband feel very special. The waiting staff weren’t overly friendly or attentive, and at the end of the night made it very clear that they wanted us to finish our drinks and leave, by turning the music off, cleaning up around us and generally making us feel somewhat of an inconvenience. Considering we were overnight guests, and it was before midnight, it was again, disappointing. Particularly when the overnight stay, dinner and drinks came with a very sizeable price tag, and service charge included. The check out was also disappointing. We were presented with one bill for the two rooms, including the lunch that our friends had charged to their room before we arrived. I’d also bought a special bottle of wine for us all on arrival, which I didn’t want our friends to pay for. We therefore had to spend time separating out the different elements of the bill, which again didn’t really make for a happy end to our stay. A real shame, and not what we expected.
Be the first to ReplyI felt let down it was a special lunch for my wife
Disappointed with the service and quality of treatment. This is a beautiful place and the food sings, however it was Saturday before Easter and knowing that tomorrow will be a lot busier I just hope they step up. I liked relaxed, we did get a nice smile on entering and the Asian gentleman was charming but there was no attention at all, we sat with our main plates in front of us for ages, the table was not tidied between courses and we wouldn’t have been offered another drink if we didn’t specifically ask when our meal came. I’m not a picky customer it was really basic stuff. No dessert or coffee offered so I had to go to the bar to pay our bill whilst our dirty plates sat in front of us. I paid the tip because I feel bad on the kitchen staff and anyone working hard. I know the out of town brigade will praise your lovely location, but you are going to need more than that like you’ve had before. Come on guys 👍
Be the first to ReplyLovely Cotswolds Stay
We had a lovely 3 night stay at the Feathered Nest as part of a break to explore this bit of the Cotswolds. We'd absolutely recommend it - a lovely setting and our room was extremely comfortable. We dined there on the Saturday evening and had a really superb tasting menu. Breakfast each morning was also delicious and extremely high quality. Thank you to Susan and all the team who were really friendly and welcoming!
Be the first to ReplyComfortable, Cozy and an Amazing Experience.
We came here for our anniversary and had an amazing stay. The staff was extremely friendly, and the room was comfortable and cozy. Downstairs, the food was amazing and the bar had an excellent selection of wine and spirits. The tasting menu and paring list we had was particularly good! It was the perfect spot for a quiet getaway for a few days. It is also centrally located in the Cotswolds, and definitely worth returning each night.
Be the first to ReplyEverything was incredible, we look forward to our return!
Absolutely wonderful Friday night stay at the Feathered Nest. Very warm and welcoming. We stayed in the cottage which was just gorgeous, our own kitchen and living space with a fire set for you ready to light when you arrive which was lovely to enjoy while we relaxed and got ready for dinner. Bed and pillows were very comfy and the shower was great. Lovely old and beautifully decorated pub side to the restaurant where we enjoyed a drink made by the lovely barman before we sat for dinner. We both had the taster menu which was incredible start to finish. You could tell all ingredients and produce were of great quality and cooked to perfection with care by the head chef Renee who came out and served a few of the courses and poured the jus for the venison. Very personable and a lovely gentleman. Waitress’ were lovely and attentive. Delicious pastries and full English for breakfast the following morning, again the quality of ingredients were excellent, the sausage and black pudding especially. Had a lovely walk around the fields leading back up to the village, perfect end to a fantastic stay. Will definitely return!
Be the first to ReplyNeeded to go to McDonalds in Witney afterwards
Really curious. Service a bit Shakey in that they don’t like two way conversation. Food was mixed. Not all the menu was available. Can pay £32 for a Sunday Roast, or £22 for a small piece of pasta which is more of a starter than a main. They rip off vegetarians. Don’t go here.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent all round experience
We booked in advance for dinner, bed and breakfast. We were welcomed and made to feel at home - rooms were comfortable and well appointed - beds and linen excellent quality and comfortable, good facilities with SMART TV, digital radio, coffee machine, bolted water etc. Rooms were very quiet and we slept well. We had drinks in the bar area in front of the real fire - special mention goes to Rui (I hope I have spelled that correctly) who made consistently excellent cocktails and was very attentive throughout our stay. Dinner was excellent - we had the six course tasting menu and every course was fabulous. Our excellent visit was rounded off with a lovely breakfast the following morning. We were very pleased with our stay, loved the for and drinks, and felt comfortable in our rooms. An excellent experience.
Be the first to ReplyThe Finest Sunday Roast!
Outstanding country pub/restaurant and guest rooms. This is not just a normal pub roast - we all agreed it's the finest Sunday roast we have ever had. Everything is cooked to order, produce is of high quality and locally sourced where possible - all prepared and served beautifully. Great wine list. All the staff are friendly and super-efficient. Rooms are perfect, spacious and very well equipped, very comfortable beds, massive bathrooms and a delicious breakfast in the morning. Magnificent!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious new dishes on the menu
It's been a while since I visited The Feathered Nest, but the staff still welcome me like an old friend, and the venue is still as charming as ever. Meeting a friend for a quick drink and a bite, I was excited to see new options on the menu and went for the Tuna Tartare starter, followed by Aubergine main. Both were outstanding options for non meat eaters, beautifully presented as always with incredible depth of tastes. Will always recommend this restaurant as a very special place to eat, one of the best in The Cotswolds in my opinion. Not enough people remember to leave good reviews anymore, which means amazing places tend to get overlooked..hopefully not with this one. #useitorloseit
Be the first to ReplyA lovely stay.
We were in the Cuckoo's Den room for three nights and the food and service was tremendous throughout. We eat early and avoided the v. busy Sunday lunch time, having an early dinner instead. We had pork belly, another night the venison and the cod - which was so good it was eaten again the following night! Our dinner comes out to £170 incl. a nice Gavi or a Pouilly Fume, and a sticky Sauternes to finish off the dessert. We made full use of the flaming old fireplace and the staff fully deserved their 12.5% service charge. The food quality was IMHO very high throughout, incl. local breakfast sausage, bacon, mushrooms & eggs etc. - not a standard we easily find in West London for instance.
Be the first to ReplyCan't fault our stay here
From the minute we checked we felt like friends not guests. Staff are welcoming and you can tell they want you to enjoy your stay. Drinks in bar, engaging staff then dinner. Food beyond expectations. Definitely star quality. Lovely Sue, a breath of fresh air at breakfast. We will be back for a night of R & R.
Be the first to ReplyA shadow of it's former self
A very poor experience on a Saturday evening, The Feathered Nest used to be one of the best pubs in the Cotswolds - we have been visiting for over 20 years, under many different owners. On this occasion , the food was poor , the service erratic and the cost well over the top . The welcome was indifferent , and we waited 20 minutes to be offered drinks - this is crazy for them commercially as eventually we went straight into the wine. The bar area was empty with a moderately full main restaurant. We were attracted by the 'plant based menu' but the 2 courses I had , the potato dumpling (£14) and the hispi cabbage (£26) were poor, the cabbage dish was actually awful with over cooked vegetables and vinegary sauce. Not sure how they worked out the pricing as a 4 course plant option was priced at £40 and I only had 2 courses for the same price despite being told I could mix and match. My wife had an overcooked halibut costing £36.and a tuna tartare starter which had to much crisp-bread filling the plate. The wines were good. The serving staff seemed to be working hard , but with no coordination and long waits for everything - perhaps the management needs an upgrade ? We decided to cut our losses and skipped dessert and coffee. Perhaps the place is too big to properly co-ordinate ? We used to get a warm welcome and really top food and were happy to pay a premium price for a premium experience - not at the moment !
Be the first to ReplyNice experience but eye-wateringly expensive
The Feathered Nest used to be one of our favourite places until the previous owners introduced a pseudo tasting menu which meant we hadn’t been for quite a long time. However we decided to give it another try because the menu structure has changed with the new owners. Although we enjoyed the food and our evening, nearly £200 for 2 courses each and no alchohol was steep by any standard. Sadly it has put us off returning.
Be the first to ReplyPretentious
I had the misfortune to visit this establishment early afternoon , Saturday 7th . Upon entering the the bar we were greeted by an exceptionally rude barman / owner / narcissist who bleated if we'd booked a table . The bar was empty , and only a family in the dining area . At that very moment I decided not to eat there , but ordered 2 glasses of wine . We seated ourselves near the open fire and we presented with the menu ,,, My Lord ,, was I in London , the Savoy ,, the Ivy ??? Unbelievable prices !! We finished our wine , went to the bar to pay ,, and our happy chappy barman presented the card reader with a verbal reading of ,,,,, £32 ,, thirty two pounds for two glasses of wine . After asking for the price to be repeated , I paid , left ,, with a desire for the place to fail under its own pretentiousness . We drove to The Lamb Inn , which quickly restored our faith in the traditional country pub .
Be the first to ReplyVery very underwhelming, massively overpriced.
Nice pub in a great setting but the experience was extremely underwhelming. I won't be returning anytime soon. Substandard service - The team of waiters were generally disorganised and struggled with celiac/gluten free, despite putting it on the booking and emailing ahead. Service nowhere near the standard you expect from a place with so many accolads. It was detailed on the booking it was a 60th birthday celebration, we weren't looking for it to be acknowledged particularly but why ask when you take the booking if you arent going to act upon it!? Limited menu - A real struggle for the celiac/gluten free guest, despite being quiet there was no real attempt to accomodate. The vegan menu was the only option for vegetarians, really poor for a restaurant pitching itself at this level. Cost vs quality - Completely misaligned. The food was fine but nothing special at all, presented quite nicely but lacked flavour depth. I left feeling very stung in my pocket as the prices are high. All things considered, a massive disappointment.
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelming .
Xmas day lunch was underwhelming . For the price they charge I was surprised that there was no welcome drink on arrival. Service was poor throughout , not once did anyone come & ask if we required further drinks . The menu said “canapés” - the offering was one tiny ball of deliciousness, how mean . The main course of turkey was delicious but despite hot plates the food was lukewarm & the sprouts like bullets . They overcharged us & got the bill wrong twice. I was expecting something exceptional . I was disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyNot what it was
We chose this place for our wedding lunch and it’s our go to for special occasions. No longer. Service was haphazard with no engagement by staff at all. We waited an hour for starters. The food was mediocre. Weird ceviche smothered in mayonnaise, superb meat but wrecked with smotherings of overcooked sauces and veg. And an astronomical bill. Really, really disappointing and sad.

I have lived in the Cotswolds for 10 years now and at first we visited this pub all those years ago. It was a place that served good food and offered a beautiful setting. Today it was the same venue but the horrific arrogance of the staff made the place ugly. It was overpriced and although we were sitting in what felt like a conservatory, the table next to us was supposedly in the bar and they were allowed their barking dog at the table yet we were not. All a bit pathetic. When I died if I could bring my dog in to the empty space and just our table eating in the area I was greeted with rudeness and arrogance from what I think was a jumped up waiter. At best the manager. Surely not the owner?! give them a few months before it fails with staff and owners like that. I’m in the hospitality industry myself and they should know better after covid and the difficulties that brought to us all. They are arrogant instead of being grateful a customer gives them their business. It won’t be repeated. I’ll spread the word to my extensive social and business connections in and around the area and London where I also live part time. Their loss

We stopped off on the way back from Burford yesterday and had a couple of drinks in the bar. Rather than being traditional service they insisted on bringing the drinks to us and we paid at the end. The service consisted of shoving the drinks across the bar at us, but the surroundings were nice and we both enjoyed our drinks. When we asked for the bill at the end it was £36. The itemised list consisted of 2 glasses of sauvignon totalling £24. We almost choked as I had had them with soda. They must have given us the most expensive they had. We had called in to check out the restaurant for future evenings out, but at that price, I think we'll give it a miss.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a gem!
A must visit for lunch or dinner if you're in the Cotswolds. Lovely ambiance, with three distinct areas. The bar area is cozy and has its own menu. The dining rooms are charming, great for groups or an intimate meal. They also have a fantastic outdoor space complete with a few hammock loveseats and a charming view of rolling fields.
The food is upscale but not pretentious, and absolutely delicious and has its own vegetarian options. The service is exceptional, and they truly go out of their way to ensure you have a wondeful dining experience.
I can't wait to go back!
Nice Meal. Chaotic Service
Went to the Feathered Nest as a Mother’s Day treat expecting to be wowed. However, the experience was disappointing. We were seated when we arrived and were not given menus for a good 10 minutes. The starters took one hour to arrive and the staff had to be reminded that we were waiting. The ceviche starter was tasty but tiny and the crab was more like a terrine with a few cold pieces of fried crab on the top. The staff also had to be reminded about the main courses. The bill was over £300 for 3 of us and for that I would have expected a higher standard. Whilst I can appreciate that the restaurant was busy, there were lots of staff rushing about but seemingly no direction.
Be the first to ReplyHigh class cuisine, not always successful - at a high price for the area
Very good food, not cheap. Lovely setting, tasteful country interior. Well trained staff. Cuisine inventive, although heavy emphasis on cream. Not all dishes entirely successful: my dessert of blood orange sorbet on heavy thick chocolate mousse was horrid. Fine piece of halibut on over creamy leeks with confit of chicken a bit of a mish mash. But overall a good dining experience.
