Avoid room 4 if you want to sleep
Stayed for one night while visiting family in the area. We were allocated room 4 which was a garden room. Our experience was mixed. The good: - room and en-suite were well appointed with thick fluffy towels and nice toiletries. - breakfast was good (eggs Benedict and a full English) - service at breakfast was friendly and efficient (we ate elsewhere for dinner) - night light in bathroom The not so good: - despite asking for a quiet room, we were allocated one under the stairs to the first floor. You could hear every footstep - something in the room (we think it may have been the air conditioning unit) made a loud buzzing sound, like a door buzzer,on a sporadic basis. This kept waking us up - the headboard for three bed had been attached to the wall in the wrong place so that the reading light (which was low and had a sharp metal edge) on my side was almost directly above my head - earplugs were provided (while this can be viewed as a considerate touch, it could also mean that they know the room is noisy). They werenโt very effective against the loud buzzing noise. Upon reflection, we should have asked to change rooms, but it was gone 11 by the time weโd figured we were in for a rough night and we werenโt sure any staff would still be on site.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect for a special occasion.
Went mid week for dinner in restaurant with friend for her birthday. Overall fab experience & good value for money (for a special occasion). Steak & sea bream - delicious- then panna cotta themed dessert & (vegan) trifle - also delicious. (Iโm not even vegan). Trifle was huge - could easily share. Staff had put a โhappy birthday โ postcard on table. A candle in dessert or something wouldโve been a nice touch. Bar menu also available. Beautiful beer garden if warm evening. Part of a local chain so I shall definitely be checking out their other venues.
Be the first to ReplyHappy place to eat good food
A lovely, busy, happy restaurant with excellent cooking. The oysters were great (my wife says) and I loved the mackerel and the venison - very tender and great ragu in savoy cabbage. The chocolate mousse was fantastic and well-presented.
Be the first to ReplyToo expensiveโฆ. (The Greedy Fox ๐ฆ)
This used to be a pub we visited at least a couple of times a month. However it gradually got too expensive and we couldnโt justify it even just for a couple of drinks. We went down on May Bank Holiday Monday for drinks with family and I honestly thought I had been overcharged when 2 x Guniess and 2 x large Chardonnayโs came to ยฃ43.00!!! After checking with one of the barman I was in fact not mistaken, he then nonchalantly told me that a large Chardonnay is now ยฃ15.00 โฆ.shocking! You can drink for cheaper than this in central London!! Sorry the The Fox, we wonโt be coming back anytime soon.
Be the first to ReplySome highlights but overall disappointing
The Good - excellent cauliflower cheese and duck pate starter. The bad - rock hard carrots and roast potatoes, olives didn't taste fresh. Average - everything else. Bit of a wait for food but otherwise service was okay. This appears to be a young-family friendly place, so perhaps not quite as quiet as you might expect.

Came for daughterโs 16th birthday meal. Not our first visit and wonโt be our last. Excellent food along with excellent service as always โบ๏ธ
Be the first to ReplyExcellent family Sunday lunch.
Iโm a repeat customer at The Fox. The food is excellent, the service is knowledgeable and efficient and the atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable.
Be the first to ReplyLovely Easter lunch
Once again, I had a lovely meal at The Fox. Delicious roast beef with all the trimmings, followed by vegan fruit trifle. The โcreamโ was whipped coconut milk. What a great dessert. Well done to the chefs. Thanks to Milly, our waitress. Polite and efficient as ever. What a lovely Easter lunch. Eggsellent. Oh dear.
Be the first to ReplyWe will be back
There for our first anniversary. Enough people there on a Monday evening to give some atmosphere. Not cheap but that's partly why I chose it. Good food with great service from Millie primarily. Croquettes and duck liver parfait starters: croquettes a generous helping, tasty, parfait less generous but enough, especially in view of the subsequent courses, subtle taste. Mains: venison and venison ragout, generous portion, very tasty, belly pork generous portion also very tasty. Extra portions of paprika+garlic roast potatoes and truffle+parmesan fries: both enough for two and very tasty. I particularly liked the fries, the truffle+ parmesan shavings taking them to another level. Desserts: cherry+apple pie with whipped custard (looked lovely, custard tasted excellent), raspberry, lemon and lime sorbets one scoop each, in order of preference, but all very good. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyVery slow service, food not good and definitely not value for money
Really disappointing, family 80th birthday, went for Sunday lunch waited over an hour for our food. We had elderly relatives and children with us too was was difficult. Starter menu lacking choice . Fish dish was dry and Luke warm. The apple /cherry pie was not a pie more a battered wrap similar to fast food chain desert ! Will not be returning or recommending. Was more expensive than most pubs in the area too.
Be the first to ReplyWould recommend for Sunday Lunch
Fantastic gastro pub, visited for the first time for Sunday lunch with the family. Good portion size, good quality food and value for money. Restaurant was very busy but the staff were extremely attentive and welcoming. We all had an enjoyable dining experience. We will be visiting again.
Be the first to ReplyWorth a visit. Great food
Brilliant experience. Tasty innovative gastro pub food. The roast beef flavor could be enhanced with a bit of shallots added to the gravy with a dash of garlic. Excellent service, friendly staff, top quality smoked salmon and beetroot tartare. Great ambiance. Yummy desserts. Will be back again for sure
Be the first to ReplySmall portions
Visited with wife and parents, food was of a good quality although portions are small in my opinion. Staff were attentive although there was no cocktail or beer list in the restaurant, only wine. Cocktail menu given verbally and the basic chosen one was ยฃ15 which was a little on the expensive side, I would usually expect to pay ยฃ10-ยฃ12. Unfortunately we wonโt be returning as there are so many other options that offer better value and choice.
Be the first to ReplyHave a snack before you go or youโll be hungry or skint because of the extras you need to order.
Limited menu and sparse food, which consisted of a tiny piece of meat, two tiny pieces of turnip๐คท โ๏ธ and one leaf of Cavolo Nero, just remember to order extra chips (they were nice). Wonโt be going again.
Be the first to ReplyNice food but a little 'nouvelle cuisine' quantity wise.
I had dinner here for the first time in a while and noted it had had a refurbishment with different decor in the main restaurant which was nicer than before. The extension area is still the same which is a shame as it is characterless and cold. We weren't in there but were seated near it so felt the draught from there. The food was very nice in terms of tastes and looks but not a hearty meal! The humous starter was very nice and good portion with tasty humous, a few chick peas and some perfectly toasted, crisp flatbread. The hake main course came with red onion, celeriac and broccoli spears. It was tasty but not filling. The celeriac was bland and only two chip sized piece so not really what I'd hoped for as that was the carbohydrate of the meal. We ordered carrots and smoked ricotta as a side dish. We didn't fancy the ricotta mixed in with the carrots so that was served separately. It didn't feel good value at ยฃ5 for a few steamed carrots and a dollop of ricotta. The food is lovely here but you need more than one course or a lot of side dishes to feel full after a meal.
Be the first to ReplyKate made my day
Came in on Monday and was served by the lovely Kate. She was so attentive and friendly, I had never been to the area before or even this pub and she made sure I was well looked after and gave me some local tips! Had an amazing artichoke risotto which I am still dreaming about now, I will 100% be back

We had a delicious Sunday lunch. The fox is a busy pub but we didnโt feel rushed in the slightest. Food was plentiful hot and delicious. The staff were extremely professional and friendly. We will definitely be back
Be the first to ReplySunday lunch
Eight of us have just had a delicious Sunday lunch at The Fox. The food starters were very tasty and the roasts were amazing. I had the chicken which was very tender and others had the beef and pork. We all agreed the it was a delicious. The desserts we had were apple and rhubarb crumbles and the coconut crรจme caramel with a pineapple salsa. Again they were delicious. The crumble is a big dessert but beautifully made. Service was very good, big shout out to our waiter Fred who was very nice and happy young man.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent and unrushed lunch
We booked a table and were 15 minutes early - that was not an issue and we were taken straight to our table. The service was friendly and unobtrusive. The mushroom starter was divine and the steak excellent and perfectly cooked. We will be returning.
Be the first to ReplyGreat for food
Amazing pub for food. Good quality. Reasonable prices and decent wine list. Would definitely recommend. We had the lamb chipolatas and hash browns. Both were good. Lamb chipolatas were soft, meaty and tasty. Little heavy on the oil in the sauce/ dressing they came with. The hash browns were crispy on the outside and Iโd say more mash/ crushed potato on inside rather than the grated potato of a hash brown. But they were still delicious. The seafood pasta had a good amount of seafood and a good sauce with a nice spicy kick. The gnocchi with mushrooms was sublime. Light and fresh. The gnocchi were well made. The dish could have done with a touch more seasoning. Finished with the salted caramel tart which was a perfect way to finish the meal. The tart was light but decadent without being overly Rich and heavy. Will be back and definitely recommend. Thereโs a car park at the back that does tend to be fairly full so something to keep in mind.

The food here was amazing. Such fab quality and amazing staff. Shame I live a bit far from here as this would def become a local โค๏ธ
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable meal
Called in here without making a reservation and enjoyed a good meal. There was a reasonable selection of beers and ciders on tap. Opted for the burger and there was a sufficient amount to fill me. Nice surroundings and pleasant enough staff. Certainly go back.
Be the first to ReplyLovely!
We used to eat out a lot on Sundays and have had many roasts of differing levels. Since lockdown we donโt go out as much-purely because of the cost! My family needed a January Treat! Iโve never been anywhere with such friendly, attentive staff (well The Gavroche, but I canโt count that!). The food was brilliant! Beef was amazing, and the kids meal good value. The cheese I had, came with the most delightful relish! It wasnโt cheap-but we wanted a treat.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed
Visited today for Sunday roast, food luke warm, awful tasting potatoes, uncooked parsnips. This is not what we are used to at The Fox, had better roast meals for half the price. Service was good.
Be the first to ReplyBelated mothers day do as other family comitments
Very disappointed...cold food and gf desert terrible..parsnip and carrots raw.. service good. you should advertise card only option and no cash.
