Last night we went to Gundis, a Kurdish restaurant, located in the Lakeview neighborhood. It is the first and only Kurdish restaurant in Chicagoland area. Kurdish food is similar to Mediterranean food but with its own unique spices and flavors. I had read the articles on their website to get some background, especially the one that was about the flavors and spices, and for me, that was quite informative.Vegetarians, fish and meat lovers will be very happy here. The wait staff was very helpful. We shared the appetizer sampler (Ezme, Hummus, Octopus Salad, Baba Ganoush) that comes with warm, puffy Kurdish flatbread. Our entrees included Newroz Pasta (olives, feta (sub for tofu), sun-dried tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, roasted veggies, and a touch of tomato sauce), Honey Salmon, Spicy Jumbo Shrimp, and a very traditional entree of Lamb & Veggie Sac Tawa, a sizzling circular steel plate piled with stir-fried meat, peppers, and tomatoes served with a side of rice. Each entree was so flavorful and plenty of food. Reservations recommended. Go ahead, treat yourself.
