A Great Place To Drop In!
Walking along the wharf, we decided to drop in for a fast taste of a light dish. Sat down and with the excellent help of our waiter Dan, selected the chicken with mashed potatoes and broccolini. Great choice and direction Dan! Meat was moist, sauce and potatoes tasty and broccolini grilled flavorfully. Would recommend this place with Dan’s service!

We had a reservation and were quickly seated. The decor is very nautical and looked good. We didn't have to wait too long for our food. The wait staff was nice. The prices are a tad high but the food is really good. They have a fresh catch of the day option on the menu. We didn't order it but that's nice to have. The menu is mostly seafood so if you're not a seafood lover there aren't many options. The cocktails were also good. This place is right on the water if you want a view. We enjoyed it. I would recommend this place.

Beautiful upstairs patio was the venue for a delicious lunch on a spectacular sun drenched Sunday afternoon . Perfect Plymouth oysters on the half-shell , with mains of "moule frites " accompanied by a glass of crisp NZ Sauvignon Blanc. Friendly, attentive servers took care of our every need adding to our enjoyment. I would recommend this place for those seeking quality food served in a cordial and relaxing environment ( inside and out)

We came here for dinner and have a great time. Sharon, our waitress, was amazing!!!! There is indoor/outdoor seating and an extensive menu. The honey soaked biscuit was amazing!!!!!! And my favorite thing to eat. Ambiance was great. Everyone was super friendly
Perfect meal with a hiccup!
My boyfriend and I wandered over from our hotel for dinner here. The tents are up for the boat show so it was kinda hard to find but we eventually found it behind the tent! We didn't bother making a reservation because we saw there were a ton available online and when met by the hostess she didn't want to seat us without one. Not sure whos direction that was but we were like huh? There are a ton of empty tables and available reservations online (which we showed her) and then we were promptly sat. After that hiccup, we were assigned Mason as our server... he was truly one of the best servers we ever had! We started with the New England clam chowder and the pistachio crusted burrata beet salad. Both were amazing. My boyfriend had the seafood pasta and I had the seared tuna and both were so so good! We finished with the key lime pie!

Superb food.
The clamp chowder is fantastic! My wife is gluten free and shellfish free. They are SO SAFE with the prep. They have a separate GF menu. The staff, especially Tammy, is well trained. They gave me my NGF rolls in a paper bag to prevent potential cross contamination. We ate 3 of 4 dinners here during our visit. I can't rave more.

I had an exceptional dining experience at The Mooring in Newport, RI. We started with the shrimp ceviche, which was fresh, well-balanced, and a perfect way to begin the meal. I ordered the cod entrée, and it was delicious. Cod can sometimes be prepared blandly, but this version was flavorful and thoughtfully done. My companion had the salmon and was very satisfied with the choice. The wine list offered a wide range of well-selected options, and we enjoyed a couple of great pours. The only part of the meal that fell short was the crème brûlée. That said, everything else was truly excellent. The location adds to the experience with beautiful views of the marina right outside. It is a relaxing setting that enhances the entire evening. The service was attentive, professional, and added to the overall quality of the meal. The Mooring is part of the Newport Restaurant Group. I also visited The Boathouse in Tiverton and had a similarly great experience. This team clearly knows how to run a top notch restaurant. I would absolutely return and recommend it without hesitation.

After a trolley tour, we walked to The Mooring mid afternoon and hoped for a table despite no reservation...and we were seated almost immediately. Our perfect table was on the lower level facing the water, and even at a quiet corner. Perfect 👌 We started with a perfect martini and Scotch, matched with a dozen oysters. Our server Allie was just lovely and helpful. Dinner was a tuna (rare) entree, and crispy red fish done to a turn. The manager even came over to say hello and ask how it all was. We highly recommend and can't wait to go back.

If you are looking for the best New England Clam Chowder in all of Rhode Island, look no further than the Mooring! It's award winning perfection! Just the right amount of clams, potatoes and creamy broth. I am not much of a soup person, but this is my go to appetizer every time I visit. Everything on the menu is excellent, the servers are fabulous and the ocean views are stunning! Parking is free for patrons too!
Best Restaurant in Newport!
The Mooring was our favorite restaurant in Newport! We enjoyed eating outside overlooking the beautiful bay! Our server, Austin was so attentive, patient, and fun! He went out of his way to make sure we had the perfect evening. He was especially kind to my 89 year old mom, going out of his way to make her laugh and enjoy her dinner. He made our dinner that much more enjoyable for all of us. We all loved the location, the food, drinks, and the wonderful service! It was the best lobster, and filet mignon! Everything was delicious! We wish we saved room for dessert!
Where quality and ambiance meet!
I visited this restaurant with my daughter and my friend and we loved all of our meals and drinks. The sevice was great and ambience delightful. We had mocktails and seafood, and I was impressed by the quality and taste. Better make reservation weeks in advanced, we couldn't make it for dinner but luckily able to make a reservation for lunch. I highly recommend you go here if you find yourself in Newport, RI.
Overrated
Definitely Overrated The seafood pasta/overcooked, scallops were rubbery. We added a lobster tail for $24, but it turned out to be baby lobster tail and very chewy. The halibut dish, paired with peach creamed corn, poblano, and pickled peach relish, sounded amazing on the menu, but the fish was dry and overcooked, and the corn side had an odd flavor. Overall, a C+ at best.
Nice seafood restaurant
The restaurant is beautiful, it's right on the harbor. There is a great outdoor patio. The staff is excellent. The clam chowder is great. The fish sandwich was great, but falls apart. It's too much for the bread. The lobster roll was very good. The seafood pasta was a great meal. The only downfall to this place is you need to pay $11/hour to park while you eat. So weird to pay to park to go to a restaurant. No discount for the parking if you go to the restaurant. That was the reason for one less star.
Everything a Seafood Restaurant Should Aspire to Be!
Casual, comfortable waterfront restaurant in the harbor. Wonderful professional staff, from the friendly hostess to the food runners and servers. The fresh oysters and clams were delicious. We tried the haddock special served with Georgia peach & corn - perfectly cooked, fish was delicious. The chilled lobster salad was also great. We also tried the pulled lamb pita with tahini sauce, also great. We had an awesome relaxed lunch. It was worth the drive.

While the adjacent parking lot is convenient, be prepared for steep rates—$11 per hour—and no validation (clear signage). Inside, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, matched by exceptional service from attentive staff. Every appetizer we tried was delicious, especially the homemade buttermilk biscuits, lobster-shrimp fritters, scallop soup, and seared-chilled tuna. The Sablefish was a flavorful surprise, the Filet Mignon a standout, and the mushroom pita a satisfying vegetarian option. Even the children’s menu impressed—our daughter declared the chicken fingers the best she’d ever had. With its flavorful food and excellent service, The Mooring is definitely a place we’d return to.

Spent most of our time in the New England area in Boston, but took a day trip to Newport and The Mooring was better than any restaurant we visited in Boston! Oysters were great and so was the clam chowder. The two stars of our experience were the tuna poke and the homemade buttermilk biscuit. The biscuit was almost like cornbread and was so delicious. We also shared the pan roasted fish sandwich was a little lackluster - not a ton of flavor in the fish, but the fries that come with the sandwich were great. To top it all off, our server was absolutely fantastic! I feel bad not remembering his name because I would have loved to shout him out here. Again, ate at some of the top rated restaurants in Boston and this was better then all of them. If/when we're back in the Newport area, this is a no brainier must visit.
Three sisters met up for dinner and drinks on a Sunday.
We were a bit early for our reservation so we sat at the bar and had drinks and appetizers. We ordered dirty martinis and three appetizers of octopus, mussels, and crab cakes. All three were excellent and would definitely order again. For dinner we sat outside which was the perfect Newport experience on the water, and ordered the beet salad, seafood pasta, and one of my sisters ordered chowder and another order of crab cakes for her entree. The food was amazing. Scallops and shrimp cooked perfectly and the pasta was lightly dressed with a garlic butter sauce. All food items we ordered were phenomenal. We got crème brûlée and the berry cheesecake crumble for dessert. Wow both were excellent. Service was also on point at both the bar and our dinner table. 10 out of 10 and I will go there again in a heartbeat whenever I'm back in my hometown.
Gorgeous waterfront dining in Newport.
Spacious and beautifully decorated. Loved the oysters and my partner had a divine seafood pasta. I didn't enjoy my lobster roll, lobster seemed old and was not flavorful. Very expensive. Service was great, very attentive and fun.

The fish sandwich is so... good and the pasta dish with the shrimp and scallops is so.........good! They also make a delicious painkiller! The ambiance is fabulous! We have never had a bad waiter or waitress... They are all excellent!
WOW WOW WOW.
How is this place not rated higher?? From the moment my family and I sat down at our table I was impressed. We sat outside, which had a BEAUTIFUL few of the boats in the harbor. It was quite hot outside and I was a little concerned about being too hot on the patio but it was kept very comfortable with fans. From the get go, our waitress, Megan, was extremely helpful. She started us off with some waters and did not rush us at all. I am gluten free, not many places accommodate like they should, but this place takes the cake. Once I alerted Megan of my gluten freeness, she quickly brought over a second menu with MANY options for me to choose from. After, bread was brought out for the table INCLUDING a gluten free roll for myself. WOW. No where else have I found that. I'd like to especially point out that when our food was brought out THE MANAGER had to bring my dish out on its own WITH an allergen stick in it, ensuring it was safe for me to eat. Most places I eat out, I fear in eating gluten and getting very sick. BUT HERE I DID NOT NEED TO WORRY ONCE. When food was brought out there was also a little misunderstanding with our waiter and a member of my family, a dish was not made. This was no sweat to us but our caring waiter Megan quickly got to the kitchen to get the dish rushed, which came out in less than 10 minutes, and while they waited she offered to BUY HIM A DRINK. Do not skip this restaurant on your trip to Newport ESPECIALLY if you have dietary concerns. and SHOUT OUT MEGAN.

Amazing! We sat on the back terrace with a view of the marina. The whole ambiance and clean and updated. Waitress was great, service was quick. The food was so fresh and delicious. Shrimp ceviche had a nice little spice to it. Tried both style lobsters rolls and were great servings of lobster and good flavor. Subbed the fries for really unique salad options they have. Dessert of limoncello cake was so light and fresh, chocolate cake was divine. We will absolutely be back. Make a reservation if going around dinner time.

Excellent spot to get a taste of the New England hospitality. We dined here this weekend and loved every bit of our experience, from the beautiful patio views, to the delicious bites (still thinking about the buttermilk biscuit) everything here is just fantastic. We arrived around 12 pm and were seated immediately, the service was great, and everyone was warm, accommodating and attentive. We ordered a few appetizers, like their oysters, shrimp cocktail, and the biscuit and each ordered our mains -- I got the chicken shawarma pita... delish! The clam chowder was also great and the burger... well you can't go wrong with a burger. Oh! And their lobster roll which was just chefs kiss. Warm, buttery, fresh bun, so good! The ambiance is lovely -- think sail boats all around parked at the dock while enjoying drinks and chatter all around. Highly recommend if you check out New Port soon!
Had a day to explore Newport.
Found this place situated in the harbor. Was pretty busy for lunch time. Service was great and friendly. Restaurant was clean that views were of the marina. Food was good. We ordered oysters, calamari, lobster roll, fish and chips, friend seas scallops sandwich. Ohhh and the clam chowder. Which I have to say was the best I ever had! That's saying something since I live on the west coast.

We opted to sit at the bar for small bites and drinks. I had an aperol spritz with some oysters and a cold lobster roll. Service was good and food was great! Will definitely visit again the next time I'm in Newport! Great views.

Excellent choice for special day. Appetizers: shrimp/lobster fritters (loved) and crab toasts mounded tall with real crab. Shared the bouillabaisse and WOW is that large!!! Desserts crème brûlée—an all time best. Definitely coming back. Oh, they also do a nice birthday card and give $15 credit! Love Newport group restaurants😍
Excellent clam chowder
Excellent clam chowder. Thick, creamy, decent sized pieces of clam. Had an excellent interesting special sandwich (lobster BLC) with nice sized pieces of lobster and the “C” is cucumber instead of tomato. So, sandwich was not soggy. Shared the sandwich. Large portions. Too many French fries accompanied the sandwich. It is a shane to waste food.

Beautiful setting by the water. Our service and food were excellent. Just beware if you order the biscuit, it’s huge but delicious. I had the lobster roll, it was delicious. Definitely try this place out if u are in the area

Roasted cod fish was delicious. Nice harbor view. Easy conversation even though the restaurant was very busy. Remember to make a reservation as this restaurant is popular, even on week nights
Excellent food, service and atmosphere
We went for lunch to celebrate 36 years of marriage. The staff made it a wonderful experience. The food is amazing. I had the sampler of oysters from different locations and really delicious seared scallops, my husband had shrimp cocktail and their burger. Everything was delicious. The combination of great food, a super pleasant and efficient staff and the beautiful view make this our favorite restaurant
What happened
Oh my goodness what happened? This has been our go to for years when we come to town. Our dinner was something out of aliens. It started with our waitress who had no personality although she tried. We ordered off the raw bar and 2 entrees. Had to ask for the bread which they serve in brown bags and we love it. But why do we have to ask? Drinks were watered down unlike prior years. The clam chowder was horrible but we did not say anything. The color alone looked like wet dish rags. No comment on the taste we didn’t finish the cup. Not the norm. Entrees were embarrassing. The manager came out and I actually felt bad because she did not think there was an issue with what was presented. Oh well. We are done with them. We have been coming here for years and this was such a disappointment for the 2 of us and we order soup to nuts and always leave a great tip so it’s over $200. Never again. I can’t wait to try other restaurants in Newport. I was really embarrassed for the waitress and manager.
Great dinner
My husband and I ate here during a weekend trip to Newport. I booked the restaurant because I had heard it was always consistent, which apparently is hard to come by in Newport. I was very pleased. I had the halibut which was perfectly cooked and tasty. Would definitely come back.
Disappointing food
It is a beautiful restaurant but our baked halibut was very overdone. The manager took 50% off and offered us desert. That was okay but we would have preferred to have the dish served properly prepared.
I recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
Staff members were friendly and polite, they showed caring about Birthday Wishes!! The food was amazing and dessert did not disappoint.
A Fabulous Dinner
I would definitely eat here again. My husband and I ordered the lobster and shrimp fritters for an appetizer and they did not disappoint. We also shared a 2 lb lobster that was stuffed with shrimp and scallops. It was delicious.
