First of all, let me just say the food is amazing here.
5/5 for food quality. I expected nothing less from a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. However, the restaurant fell short in a few areas that I'll cover in the review.I visited The Narrow on a Monday afternoon and despite not having reservations, my friends and I were seated immediately and given actually a pretty good view of the river. They even had heaters ready. We ordered the roasted pepper and tomato soup, the spicy tuna tartare, fish and chips, and ended with a sticky toffee pudding.I personally enjoyed the soup, but I like tomato-ey things. Instead of having that slightly sour feel that I get in a lot of tomato soups, this one was actually very smooth and the creme fraiche accompanied it pretty well. The spicy tuna tartare was not very spicy. It had a very mild kick to it - not even as spicy as hot Cheetos. The fish and chips were perfect. The fish was a full fish (aside from head) the size of my forearm. The ketchup they had was the best ketchup I had in my life. I have been convinced to buy higher quality ketchup now. Finally, we all loved the sticky toffee pudding. None of us had a good point of reference, but we could lick the plate clean. I was honestly impressed by how masterfully every ingredient complemented each other. The big downside was, the food was very slow. Apparently they only have one fryer and a ton of people (like 4 other people in the restaurant that I could see) ordered fish and chips. It took nearly 1 hour for the fish and chips to show up. I don't understand why they only have one fryer given how high Gordon Ramsay's restaurant standards seem on his tv shows. Everything that wasn't fish and chips was very fast. The servers had fantastic attitudes though. They even gave us more ketchup and were very accommodating. However, at one point, they also almost gave our appetizers to the wrong table.Overall, if you have a lot of time to kill and want some pretty great fish and chips, this might be the restaurant for you. The view of the Thames was just the cherry on top.

The service was great and very delightful. The whole family enjoyed the entire experience.

It was just okay, kind of a let down as far as Gordon Ramsey restaurants go. We chose The Narrow for breakfast for two reasons: their early start time (open at 8 am on Sunday) and the view. It was also quite easy to get to from our hotel via the DLR.It is not at all the restaurant's fault that it was super foggy and the view was nil. But then we had no choice but to assess the restaurant on everything but the view. We were the only ones there, arriving around 9. It was our departure day, so just trying to have a nice breakfast on our last day. We appreciated the early opening, but they didn't seem quite ready for people. The worst part was how cold it was in the restaurant. They fired up a propane heater - that smelled really bad - but then it promptly shut off and we were cold the entire time.Food came out fast - too fast! Ham on the eggs Benedict was thick and cold. English muffins not toasted well enough. Hollandaise was cold. I would have preferred they take the time to cook it all properly, and give us some time to relax. Orange juice was not fresh squeezed and no alcohol until 11. The server offered us strawberry jam for our pastry plate but then came back saying they didn't have any. They gave us small amounts of water and didn't leave the bottle on the table or ever offer refills. The server had squeaky sneakers and because we were the only ones there, we heard every time he came to watch us to see if we were done. It felt like he was rushing us out. With two courses, we were in and out in 30 minutes, that's not really what I was looking for. Good points: poached eggs were cooked as perfectly as you'd expect in a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. The view is lovely I'm sure on a non foggy day. Maybe all is great later in the day, but I'd skip this spot for early birds. I've previously visited Gordon Ramsay's Heddon Street Kitchen for brunch and it was a much better experience, in terms of liveliness, food offerings, and food quality.

Thought I would take a moment to share my thoughts while the experience is fresh in my mind. Let me start by saying we were absolutely stoked at the idea of visiting a Gordon Ramsay restaurant; we get a kick out of his style and have a lot of respect for his talent and what he does. The experience we had during our visit absolutely did not mirror what we were expecting. The restaurant itself is situated right along the Thames in a neat little unassuming area filled with a mixture of residences and other businesses. The location is actually pretty awesome. Right off the bat, we both felt slightly overdressed; as we were walking into the front, families with small children were on their way out, and were all dressed pretty casually. Totally on us for feeling the need to be all fancy lol, but I was honestly a little surprised by how laid back the atmosphere seemed, as well as how many kids we saw while we were there. We were greeted right as soon as we walked in, and the woman at the front was incredibly nice. As I mentioned earlier, we'd made reservations a while ago, but were met with a mostly empty restaurant. Apparently the night before had been insanely busy, but I digress. We were led to a table on their covered patio right next to a window overlooking the Thames. One thing we noticed immediately was how dark the dining area was... we were able to see each other, of course, but reading the menus became a bit difficult if they weren't angled into the surrounding patches of light just the right way. After a few minutes, our waitress stopped by to say hello and start us off with some water. We took a few minutes to decide on meals and drinks, but ended up trying their seasonal menu selection - three courses from a small list of items for £23 each. We wanted to get the most out of the experience, so decided to order different things from this special menu and share each dish. I started with the mussels, my main was the gnocchi, and dessert was a chocolate brownie. BF chose the beef brisket starter, pork belly dish for his main, and the same brownie for dessert. Our starters came out pretty quickly, and we were excited to share. Now I know I mentioned earlier that the lighting was poor, but after receiving our first course, we could REALLY tell just how bad it was. I'll be the first to admit that being able to see the presentation of the meals is one of the things that makes the food appetizing. We struggled to even get a hint of what his starter looked like when it was brought to the table. Overall, the starters were probably an average of 3/5 stars. The mussels were cooked well, and the sauce they were paired with was smooth and creamy. Super yummy dish. The brisket left much to be desired, though. While the meat itself was halfway palatable for a lump of cold meat, the dish was DOMINATED by the flavor of mustard. The small side paired with it was absolutely unpalatable. We finished the meat very slowlyNext on the list were the main course dishes. We were starving by this point and ready for some real, hearty food to fill us up. It wasn't long before the plates came out, and I have to say that immediate presentation was decent. Bad choice. BF was served the pork belly with an apple purée and added a small side salad to his meal. I ordered gnocchi, which was mixed in with peppers and broccoli. The entire theme of this course was fat and garlic. His dish was extremely wet and full of fat; I'd say probably a 70/30 split between fat and actual meat... again.. yikes. The apple purée was kind of pretty to look at, but was completely dominated by what I can only think to describe as some weird vinegar flavor. He took probably two bites and wasn't able to stomach any more. Even his salad, easy as they are, just tasted like the greens had come straight from the garden without being washed and prepared. My gnocchi was unfortunately inedible, as well, due to the crazy amount of garlic in the dish. All I could taste was garlic... not gnocchi, not broccoli, not the little peppers, but garlic. I think I had about four of the little potato dough nubs and couldn't handle any more. Our waitress eventually came back to check in on us, and we had to ask for the check at that point. Neither one of us even thought that continuing the the three courses we ordered was a good idea based on how disappointed we were with everything else we ordered. Neither one of us are usually ones to speak up in restaurants about things like this, but this experience was unfortunately a super huge letdown. The only reason I've chosen to give two stars is solely based upon the fact that we were not charged for all the food we did not eat. We sincerely appreciated this effort to reconcile our experience, but will not be back to try again. Fingers crossed no one else has a similar experience to ours; perhaps things will improve in the future.

Upon a local's recommendation, my husband and I dined here when we were in London. The food - fish and chips for my British spouse, sausage and mash for me - was delicious, the service impeccable, and the view was beautiful. The only negative was found in the ladies' room. Broken toilet seats on 2 of the 3! Really, that just won't do! How difficult is it to change a seat? Every detail does matter. But we enjoyed our visit on the whole.
Be the first to ReplyI'll try to make this brief (unlike my meal).
Food was very nice. Staff are super friendly and nice. Service is absolutely abysmal. I don't know if it's because they are understaffed or not properly supervised, but once seated, there was a lot of upselling. "Do you want to start off with a cocktail, do you want wine? Can I get you olives (or whatever) while you look at menu?" Upselling continued throughout the meal, on the rare occasion someone came to check on us, which brings us to the main problem.Service was so, so, slow. The place was not at capacity. There were some empty tables. We had to wait so, so, so long between sitting and ordering. Waiting. Ordering and receiving starters. More waiting. After starters were finished to when main courses were brought, more waiting. After main course were finished to bring desert menus. More waiting. I finally had had enough and walked to front desk to ask for the bill (since no one bothered to come see if we wanted to actually order anything from the desert menus sitting in front of us for 1/2 hour!). Then the woman I asked for the bill from came to table and asked us if we wanted desert. Huh? I just told her I wanted the bill! It was a late lunch/early dinner, starting at 4pm. It took 2 1/2 hours to get out of there. And not because we ate at a leisurely pace. It was because we were often left for very long stretches with no one coming to check on us. Or bring us food. Or do anything else. When they did come they were very nice and polite (or upselling), but that doesn't make up for the ghosting we felt.I can't believe Gordon Ramsey's name is on this place. He has no idea how much they need him to get his ass in there and figure out what the problem is. A pretty view and nice food is not enough when you leave knowing you never want to return again.

Come with an appetite! Bank holiday menu was apparently a bit different from the usual menu but a GR venue does not disappoint! The dockside view alone is worth it & their selection of wines aren't too shab. If they offer any of the roasts that are not listed make sure to give them a try.

Stopped by Sunday for lunch, they had plenty of open tables but they would not seat us as said we needed reservations. With 3/4 of the place empty and given the fact we only wanted their roast, clearly this place is too snooty fro regular guests. No wonder this place has nothing but bad reviews between Yelp and TA.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely fantastic.
The servers were nice and friendly, taking the time to make sure we were taken care of and had everything we needed while also making us laugh. The food lived up to Gordon Ramsay's name and everything was prepared to the highest standard. The atmosphere is fun and the view is spectacular. I would definitely recommend it and I hope some day I can go again.

I recommend making a reservation for a better view of the wharf. We walked in, so we sat in a back room. Great food though! The Mac & cheese was very rich. Fish was flaky and flavorful. Chips we nice and crispy on the outside, yet soft and well cooked on the inside. Expect to pay for a bottled still water. Good experience.

Gordon Ramsay classy casual dining - The table service was excellent. The burger was probably the best I ever had - the aged beef was wonderful. I did get a bone chip in the ham hock pressing (what did I expect, right?). No big deal, but it didn't belong there. The biggest issue I had was that the main course took and hour and fifteen minutes from the time we received our starters. Maybe they sent out someone to catch the Sea Bream (nice crispy skin btw) That would have got someone kicked off of Hell's Kitchen. There is a nice view from the enclosed patio but it was too cold for my wife. I will give them another shot when we're back that way again.
