We went here for my father in law’s 70th birthday. We don’t frequent Michelin star restaurants often, although we have been fortunate enough to go to some amazing ones. We save these kind of places for special occasions, we anticipate the bill will be high and we therefore expect an exceptional eating experience and value for money. Firstly, I never review restaurants, but I feel so strongly about our experience that I can’t not share with others! We didn’t have terrible food, in fact it was fine, but we were left so totally underwhelmed - a bill of over £400 was completely unjustified. The service was fine, the ambience was fine, the food was fine. But that was all it was. Nothing blew us away (and we had a decent selection between the 5 of us). The wine is so grossly overpriced it further takes away from the enjoyment of it. The table was too small for all the food - the waitress wanted to stagger our food (probably for that reason) but we wanted starters and mains - not unreasonable I don’t think! We sent back a pasta dish - my brother in law actually thought it might be out of a Heinz can! He had a risotto instead (the best thing we ordered). When the bill came, they had charged us for the risotto despite this being a replacement meal. No apologies from the kitchen. No complimentary drink for my brother in law. Whenever I have been to a high end restaurant to celebrate an occasion and let them know, there has always been a token desert/ cake or something from the establishment. At The Ninth? - a card, signed from the staff…! Needless to say that did not go on the mantelpiece next to the other cards! (If anyone finds it on the Jubilee line then happy belated birthday from Jun!) Not very generous. So all in all we are left wondering how on earth this got its star and would encourage anyone looking for a special meal to look at the hundreds of other restaurants that will blow you away for that money.
