Perfect location and experience for a celebration
Restaurant located at rear of ground floor of London Savoy hotel. Super friendly, welcoming and professional staff. Beautiful decor and dining space overlooking the Thames through big picture windows. Very attentive and special service and very high quality food. Great for a special celebratory breakfast, lunch or dinner. Highly recommended.

This was my first visit to the Savoy and I was not disappointed. Cliford provided excellent service- a great salesperson, too, as he suggested I have bread to start (with the most delicious seaweed butter). This means I will have to come back another time to fit in some pudding! The Beef Wellington was spot on, couldn't be better. And as others have said, for all the sumptuous and luxurious physical features, there's a very comfortable and relaxed welcome here. The reputation of the Savoy is well deserved.

We dined here last week. The meal started with drinks and a basket of warm bread with a seaweed butter which was good. The Brunette started with the Carlingford oysters which she said were excellent and served with a variety of accompaniments. I had the Shetland Mussels in a delicious broth of chilli and coriander - again, excellent. For mains, The Brunette had the cod, which came with pomme puree. She said the cod was really well cooked but the potato was a little cold for her taste. I had the hake which came with cannelini beans and nduja. While I knew that the beans would bulk out the dish, I also had a side of fries! To my surpise there were quite a number of bones in the hake. I always expect a few bones in any fish dish but there were more than expected. The beans and nduja made an excellent accompaniment and we also shared the green beans with chilli and almonds which were a perfect accompaniment to both mains. For dessert we both had the Tiramisu which was very good, and just the right size. Overall a very pleasant afternoon with excellent, relaxed service. A little on the pricey side perhaps but then - we were in the Savoy! Would we go again - yes, tomorrow!!

Was there not long time ago and it was beautiful. Not gonna waste my words speaking about food and restaurant cause no words needed as it was great but would like to mention our waitress Tatiana (hope am pronouncing it right :D) who was joy to behold. She was great, very nice, patient and cheerfull. She certainly made our staying there more comfortable and us wanting to visit more. Five stars to everything and five more to her :)))))

The choice of the menu was quite bad no fresh salad or fruits all the deserts were very creamy, and after fish itās not good option We got sick with the mix of cream and fish My stomach wasnāt feeling good at all while eating and after leaving we both got sick Beef wellington was kind of steamed spongy and burned a little outside All guest were all seated near to each other, I didnāt get why we were not spread over the restaurant Service was annoying , got disrupted many time , not with a smile unfortunately Mr Gordon Ramsey stop opening new restaurants and focus on quality, Kaspar was so much better

First time dining at the River Restaurant- previously dined at the Savoy Grill which also spot on. Lovely restaurant and staff superb. Oysters perfect as well as the Pork Chop and Ribeye Steak. Would return
Be the first to ReplyExcellent lunch
There was a mixup with our lunch reservation but the maitre dā kindly found us a drinks table to dine. The fish and chips were excellent. Crispy large piece of fish, chopped peas, large chips ( not crispy). Dessert was also excellent. The coconut sorbet and tiramisu were great choices. And the maitre dā brought me a birthday chocolate tart that was superb. We spent 4 hours chatting and never felt rushed. A wonderful afternoon and worth the money. The setting is very elegant.

Memorable experience indeed ! Perfect evening for our 20th wedding meal! Cannot fault the food and enthusiasm of the staff. It is a lovely idea to have some savoy grill classics on the menu whilst the grill is being refurbished. I had the omelette (smoked haddock and cheese) and it has to be one of the best dishes I have ever tasted! Amazing. I had the lobster main which next time I would try a meat course. I ordered only half a lobster which was a little bit smaller then expected but was still Beth good. I would recommend ordering a full lobster if you want a substantial portion. My wife had the fish and chips which she (and me!! Enjoyed v much. I worked in a French restaurant but have never made or eaten a tart Tatin as good as the River restaurants. This was beautiful. My wife loved her desert also! Sorry I cannot remember what it was. I was enjoying mine too much. Emmaās review will follow ! The service and decor is just right ! Polish girl was very helpful and friendly as were the other staff member. They made us feel very welcome! I tried to get a table at Petrus. In the end Iām pleased we went to river restaurant. All great - ThankYou !
Be the first to ReplyIt is just average
I actually visited the restaurant twice once with my wife and once on business. The restaurant itself is wonderful and the views over the river brilliant. However sadly the food is just average and not worth the cost. The service on the first occasion was not very attentive although it was better on the second occasion. Such a shame.
Be the first to ReplyCharming and unpretentious
We enjoyed a very pleasant light lunch served by our charming Croatian waitress [whose name unfortunately escapes me]. The ambience is unfussy with pleasant views across the embankment and the Thames.

The setting was amazing. The service was horrendous. The food was ok. The portion size was ridiculous.
After months of medical treatment I wanted to treat my daughter to a meal and we chose this restaurant.
The same were terrible - the waiter acted as though he was doing us a favour and extremely rude with no personality at all.
The food was mediocre, definitely not worth Ā£228.00 for 2 people.
We did go early but the restaurant was empty and in all honesty I understand why. You don't mind spending the money if the experience is something that you enjoyed but this was not enjoyable at all.
gordon ramseys riverside resturant at the savoy
dined at the riverside resturant for my wife birthday and the fish starter and the main course was very poor in portions fo the price they were charging /
i know its 5 star dining but you expect more then a couple of mouthfulls of food
was looking forward to the meal but it was a disappointment to say the least
there are better resturants in london then this for the price
would not recommend for any special occasion
portion size of starters and main course was poor
went to the resturant for a birthday and was very disappointed
at the meals . i know its fine dining but you expect more then a couple of mouthfulls .i ordered the turbot and got a very small piece with some lettice .hardly a meal .
and that was the fish of the day at Ā£49.00
and you need to look around london for better resturants then this for the prices they are charging .this resturant does not do the savoy hotel any credit
the hotel is 5 star but the resturant is certainly not
Not the expected standard
Attended a business breakfast - lovely ambiance and decor.
English breakfast on the menu looked great, sadly the reality was different.
Service delivery was haphazard yet polite.
The quality of the food was not what I have experienced at other Gordon Ramsay establishments.
The majority of the meal was cool in temperature, black pudding overcooked, poached eggs not cooked around the yoke, I could go on but really is this what one of these restaurants has come to. Frankly taxi driver cafes are tons better for the full ENGLISH.
Perhaps the Ramsay chain should stick to lunch and dinner???
So disappointed!
We arrived at the restaurant with high expectations but the standard of food and drink was not that of a restaurant charging such high prices. The prawn cocktail starter was awful, I think someone had over done the Tabasco sauce. The drinks cost more than the food, unbelievable prices, so we canāt recommend this restaurant and we wonāt be coming back anytime soon. Shame on you Gordon Ramsey! We expected the best for my birthday treat but got just an average meal I could have cooked better myself.
Be the first to ReplyPoor service impaired an otherwise wonderful evening with the family.
The restaurant fully delivered on great food, beautiful decor and a vibrant atmosphere. Our family dinner was let down by poor service. The waiter was surly at best, where his attitude from the get go was the answer is ānoā whatās the question. When our drinks arrived one of our group didnāt get theirs, after asking 3 times it eventually arrived. We then ordered, with 4 out of the 6 of us wanting the same main dish to be told it was no longer available. Disappointed not to be told when given the menus 20 minutes before.
My daughter doesnāt like fish and surprisingly there was nothing on the menu, on the kids or main menu, that didnāt include fish for the starters. Instead we asked for bread and olives for her as a starter to be told they had no olives. Surprised by this, given we were sat by the bar in a 5* hotel we asked another waiter as he passed. Two minutes later two huge bowls of olives arrived to the delight of my daughter. Our waiter turned up his surliness another gear when he subsequently saw the olives in front of my daughter.
Finally, post an incredible dessert we ask for drinks which included a Tia Maria. Again the waiter said no, again we didnāt believe a 5* hotel bar wouldnāt stock such a drink. We ordered an alternative and the bill at the same time.
We had a wonderful night with great company and great food. Itās disappointing however to have the night impaired by poor service.
Impeccable service
Excellent food and service on Motherās Day.
My son booked this restaurant for me and it was truly amazing we had Natalia serve us and from start to finish it was just fantastic
We will def go back we could not fault a thing
Thank you also for the chef god letting us look around his kitchen
Very tasty!
Very tasty food, excellent service, superb ambience. Great for a classy gastro experience! Live music perfomed by a 3 piece band. Not at all noisy.
Be the first to ReplyFab food service let it down
Once arrived took 20 mins for drinks order to be taken
Then had to ask for more glasses and menus
Itās not the customers problem if restaurant busyā¦. I donāt need to know
Staff did apologise but not what we expecting from this restaurant prices.
An utterly disappointing experience
Not sure where to start with this review. What should have been a lovely family occasion ended up as a truly forgettable meal. We were left at the bar for at least 20 mins without a drinks menu or being attended to. Had to request service twice before there was any action. No bar snacks available so we ordered some bread caviar and oysters. Decided to order our food whilst at the bar so that when we sat down there wouldnāt be a long wait for our meal as it looked like it could be a VERY long wait!! Sat down only to be offered the menus!! Felt like the staff didnāt have any idea what they were doing and had no leadership. At least 35 mins to get our bottles of water. Food was just OK when it should have been outstanding. Fish burger was overpowering and not eaten by one of our group. My cod was fairly flavourless. Fries turned up after we had finished and the next table also were very unimpressed! Deserts again ok nothing special. The only waiter who showed any interest in how we felt ended up having to take the service charge off our bill as we advised him it was abysmal. Our bill was over Ā£1000! Will not be visiting again will take our business somewhere else where our custom is valued (there are plenty of establishments in London take note) and we can honestly say we feel the staff were unwelcoming and really made us feel they just couldnāt care less . Management needs to take note it starts at the top!!
Be the first to ReplyA bit pricey compared to the old Kasperās but excellent meals, nonetheless.
My wife and I booked dinner here on Valentinesā Day. As ever with the Savoy, the decor and surroundings are first class and this extends to Gordon Ramseyās new enterprise āThe River Restaurantā. Itās a fish restaurant but with a large sirloin steak on the menu for those that donāt want fish.
We started with glasses of Champagne. They were nice but not very large. Wines served by the glass start at Ā£10 and Ā£12 but they are very small at 125ml per glass. That works out at Ā£60 or Ā£72 for a bottleās worth. Itās far cheaper to buy a bottle, starting at Ā£45. We chose a small glass each as we didnāt want a bottle.
We often find that in high end restaurants like this, or the Ritz, you can safely choose items on the menu that youāve never heard of, in the knowledge that itās highly likely to be very good. That proved to be the case here.
For starters I had the Celeriac PurĆ©e with crispy, curried St Ewe egg. Iāve no idea what a St Ewe egg is but this meal was very nice. It consisted of a poached, but still runny, egg contained in a crispy, curry flavoured coating. The celeriac purĆ©e cam in a little jug for the customer to pour over the egg. Very interesting and nice. My wife had the prawn cocktail which was quite large. Olive oil infused bread was served with a dip with starters.
On the menu on the restaurantās website, there is a fish called Gurnard, served in batter. A quick check on Google hold me that Gurnard is a cheap and tasteless fish so! I decided to give that one a miss. On arrival at the restaurant, I noticed that the Gurnard had now been substituted by Brill. Not knowing what that is like meant that, for the main course, I opted for the 12oz Sirloin served on the bone with Kauffmanās Fries (chips to the rest of us). This was Ā£50 plus Ā£7.50 for the chips plus 15% service charge (Gordon Ramsey has no truck with 12.5% service charges). So, my steak and chips came to Ā£66.12. Wow! It was good, however. The bone had already been cut away by the chef and was placed on the side of the plate, presumably for those customers that wished to pick it up and gnaw at any remaining pieces of meat still to be found on it. It was cooked just right and was very good. I thought the fries were a bit big-standard for Ā£7.50, coming in a little metal cup.
My wife had the grilled lemon sole. She said it was nice but it looked a little small to me. Nothing at all like the Dover sole she once had in Gordon Ramseyās grill at the front of the hotel. This meal also required the addition of Kauffmanās Friesā at Ā£7.50 a time.
Desserts were excellent. I had the Coconut Mango Knickerbocker Glory, which was excellent. My wife had the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was also excellent.
The bill came to Ā£246. I thought that was a bit pricey for what we had given that our last visit to the Gordon Ramsey Grill was also Ā£246 but we left there feeling that we had had a lot more for our money. For example, a full bottle of excellent wine and Dover sole at Ā£49 excluding any extras.
So, the food and experience at the River Restaurant were good but the menu is quite limited in my view. Iād prefer to spend my money at the Grill. As my spending there will also go into Gordonās pocket, he shouldnāt be too disappointed with that!
This is a great restaurant that re-charges the body and mind, the food is just wonderful.
The minute you walk in the door you know the team think of everything, itās not just food itās an experience in itself. Fine dinning, comfort, relaxing and enjoying not just using your taste buds, the restaurant infuses all senses.
A restaurant you can return too time and time again. Wonderful.
Perfect for a Lighter meal in beautiful surroundings
Business lunch. I have eaten at the River Restaurant twice over the past month and enjoyed both both times immensely. The grand setting of the Savoy makes the occasion feel special. Delicious menu options. Food and wine excellent. Restaurant ambience is calm. Service on-point and friendly. Didn't feel under time pressure; service was efficent for first meal where we were time-limited, and more drawn-out when we had more time. Table sizes quite small, but well spaced out.
