Needs improvement and vegan options
A bit too old fashioned with limited dietary preferences. They assume everyone has the same dietary preferences and will just live whatever they make. If you ask for a vegan/ vegetarian menu, they don’t have one and most their options can’t be made plant based. I ate pasta with mushrooms and pasta with spinach everyday. Breakfast was oatmeal or avocado toast. I got tired of these two options after a few days so had to go out of the hotel to find amazing vegan options everywhere but here. Drinks were very good. Outdated outdoor seating furniture and boring atmosphere at night. Live music would be great to make the ambiance more lively. People have different dietary preferences and this place needs to be more accommodating.

Biggest rip off ever. Been dining in finest establishments since mid 70s. Worldwide. Lived in NYC, London, Paris. Had lunch at this place and it terrible. Portions were miniscule and totally bland. Prices ridiculous. Asked waiter to select a red wine by glass and didnt ask price. Charged $365 for three glasses. This place should be outlawed.

Thomas Keller might be the greatest American born chef in the US . His return to his home state of Florida is a wonderful revisit of American continental cuisine . The wonderful art deco room plunges you in another era . Service is wonderful and the food is dazzling . Superb products executed at a superior level . Anyone who thinks a crabcake is boring should taste it at Surfclub!
Be the first to ReplyExceeded expectations
The Surf club exceeded expectations, the food, service, ambiance, vibe was perfect. The attention to detail from wait staff was magnificent. The food was delicious, delightful/refreshing drinks. Everything we had was beyond delicious-- cesar salad, pasta, steak, and wine recommendations. The staff is super friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant

This review is a reflection on the management of the restaurant more than the food or service. Just know that if you have an issue with the The Surf Club it will not be resolved to your satisfaction. I'm a member of the hospitality community and was beyond disappointed with my experience and the establishment's response.
Be the first to ReplyMichelin Star restaurant inside the Four Seasons
Excellent service which matched the service from the Four Seasons hotel. Food was delicious!!!! Ordered sea bass and steak with mashed potatoes which melted in your mouth like butter. The ambiance in this spot is so sexy. Live jazz musicians play in the Lounge area. Drinks perfectly made. Reservations are a good idea.
Be the first to ReplyThe surf club is a 10.
this place is a 10. fabrizio the maitre 'd, ned the bartender, all awesome. especially fabrizio. it's a very very special place; it's a great room, great bar, and the jazz music was fantastic. as good as bemelman's. a must if you are in n. miami beach.
Be the first to ReplyThe Surf Club - a VERY special restaurant!!
The beautifully restored Surf Club (in Surfside in the northern part of Miami Beach, and surrounded by the new, modern Four Seasons Hotel/Residences) is Thomas Keller’s nod to old world elegance & classic cuisine (Fettuccine Alfredo, Lobster Thermidor, Beef Wellington etc). We’ve been several times, & it’s alleys a real treat. This visit was to satisfy a long-held urge: Summer months’ 1st Wednesday of the month menu special: Buttermilk crunchy fried chicken and white cheddar biscuits - YUM !!! The Surf Club offers it’s full ala carte menu on “Fried chicken nights” (but we were on a mission). The Verdict: DELICIOUS fried chicken!! I’ve never had better!! The Surf Club is wonderful to dine at all year round, but I especially enjoy the summer long days with daylight and gorgeous views out back leading to the beach/ocean. If you’ve never been, The Surf Club is a real treat!! (EXTRA note: On this evening, they served a “Peaches & Cream” homemade vanilla ice cream scoops serves with fresh peach slices with homemade peach juices/syrup - - this was one of the BEST DESSERTS that I’ve had in years!!!)

Terrific food in a really enjoyable setting. Service was attentive without being overbearing. Salad and shrimp appetizers were tasty. The veal and salmon main courses were spectacular. Among my favourite restaurants of 2023.
Be the first to ReplyRude female host with lots of attitude... bad vibe
We dined next door at the hotel's Lido Restaurant (very nice dinner, with great food and service and it's on the water, as opposed to this restaurant) since the Surf Club was totally booked the first night we came (right after Art Basel). We had reservations to come here the following night and just wanted to get sneak peak of the room on our way out. We were so incredibly and brusquely prevented from even poking our heads in the door by the female host, it left a sour taste in our mouth. This was after dinner service was over. It was so wildly rude and has never happened to me anywhere in the world. Needless to say, we cancelled the reservation. I suggest you skip the Surf Club attitude and try the Lido instead. Friendlier, more casual yet still elegant with a much better location. And the bar in between the restaurants is also on the waterside and worth a visit, too.
Be the first to ReplyThe Inconvenient Truth
TK is truly our favorite chef and restaurant creator. So you can imagine our disappointment with literally every aspect of our Surf Club experience. Where to begin ... The decor was unimpressive, cheap, and vibeless. Our menu was poorly folded like a shot-gun DYI wedding invitation, sloppy, tattered, bent, and stained. We were treated like a total inconvenience for the entire night. Not sure if it was because we weren't staying at the 4 seasons or because we had the last 9:30 seating. We did arrive early to have a drink at the Champagne bar, but since there were many open tables, we were seated by 8:50. We ordered the oysters, Caesar salad, beef tips, and filet mignon. The oysters were magnificent. Truly the highlight of the night. When we asked for horseradish, a server came over with a huge fresh root, and grated it right on our plates. Lovely, but certainly a low bar for the culinary expectation of excellence at a TK restaurant. Next the Caesar salad. The website and reviews strongly highlighted the tableside prepared salad. We couldn't wait to experience the artful, nostalgic times when proud, dedicated staff prepared appetizers and meals tableside. The Surf Club menu and reviews boasted to reclaiming the lost art of the gueridon Caesar salad service. It was a must order. Unfortunately, I went to the restroom, only to return to a cold plate cradling a sad state of pre-made salad. When I asked the waiter why it was not prepared tableside, he annoyedly answered and randomly pointed towards the kitchen "It was prepared over there. I couldn't bring the cart out, there is no room." In disbelief to his rude and flawed response, I responded "There is no one in the restaurant. You can prepare it tableside". He simply said it was prepared and walked away. The salad was limp and obviously prepared earlier in the day with no intentions of being made tableside. The beef tips and filet were adequate, but lacked creativeness and definitely not Michelin star worthy. So yes, we give The Surf Club a one star based on a poorly presented dining room and menu which immediately showed a lack of attention to detail. Yes we give The Surf Club a one star based on the omitted prepared tableside Caesar salad which disappointedly showed a total disregard for our overall food quality and dining experience. But the biggest reason for the one star, was our waiter's attitude. During our entire dining experience, we were treated like one big inconvenience ... our $1,200.00 dining experience was coming between him and his ending shift which grossly showed a complete lack of management. We have never experienced these qualities in any Michelin star restaurant, much less a TK restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyTurning ordinary into something extraordinary
The Surf Club restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel at 9011 Collins Avenue in Surfside, Florida, inside the hotel's exclusive Surf Club, is a dinner-only venue with a storied past. Built by tire tycoon Harvey Firestone, designed by pioneering Miami architect Russell Pancoast and opened in 1930, t was the ultimate place to be seen. It once was the retreat of the rich and famous, including Winston Churchill, Douglas MacArthur, Frank Sinatra, Gary Cooper, Elizabeth Taylor and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. On this occasion, my wife and I were the beneficiaries of the classic Continental cuisine prepared by chef Thomas Keller, who correctly advertises that he turns the ordinary into something extraordinary. Open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily, be sure to book reservations sooner than later. We started with marinated olives, deviled eggs, French onion soup with kettle chips, a Gulf Prawn cocktail and a Classic Caesar salad prepared tableside. For an entree, we couldn't resist Dover Sole Meuniere for Two, caught off the coast of Brittany, with roasted garlic and truffle batter, buttermilk whipped potatoes and green beans amandine. When was the last time you saw that on a menu? Delicious. For dessert, we shared slices of coconut cake and chocolate cake. If it was good enough for Winston Churchill, it's good enough for us.
Be the first to ReplyTERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
Worst customer service I have ever experienced. I called to arrange an order of drinks for my fiancé and his guests at his bachelor party and the restaurant made me fill out a form with all of my information and they said they would handle it. To my extreme disappointment, the drinks were never delivered to the table. Plus, I have called multiple times and the general manager refuses to even respond explaining what happened. Plus they have all of my credit card information and personal information on file now. They simply ruined this great idea and opportunity and did not have the decency to explain themselves or even get back to me. Will never return or recommend to anyone.
Be the first to ReplyThe Surf Club restaurant - a real treat !!
Located in the gorgeous classic Surf Club in Surfside, FL, Thomas Keller's The Surf Club restaurant is a delightful treat! Beautiful ambiance, superb service, and wonderful food; it all makes for a top-notch dinning experience. We enjoyed the following: Brown Derby(whiskey) and Margarita(Tequila) - both excellent cocktails Complimentary warm fresh baked rolls - yummy! Crabcake - a classic appetizer here! HIGHLY recommended! Bucatini pomodoro - fresh & tasty - very nice appetizer Eggplant parmesan - very good vegetarian entree Lobster Thermidor - served on a mushroom-filled puff pastry; very good String beans - nice side dish Steak Fries - superb here! Key Lime Pie w/ meringue - very good All-in-all, dinner at the Surf Club is a highly recommended special treat!
Be the first to ReplyWE EXPECTED MORE
Lovely ambiance. Upscale. Expensive. My wife and I started with a combo appetizer of crab, shrimp, scallop. Then on to the lobster entrée. The food was quite good, but not as good as we expected given the prices involved and the reputation of the chef.
Be the first to ReplyLoved it.
Loved the ambience. and the food was really really good. The lobster thermador was out of this world. The desserts were not the best but average. Expensive, loved the vibe and felt it was worth it. Service was also top notch.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food, Drinks, And Service
I did say great food. It was. It wasn't necessarily Keller status great (been to most of his restaurants), but it was pretty good. Dessert and drinks stole the show as we sat outside and had an amazing bartender. Great personality and went above and beyond for all those sitting at the bar. Not sure his name, but some sort of latin guy with a beard.
Food:
- French Onion Dip was AMAZING.
- Deviled eggs were eh/just okay.
- Caesar Salad was definitely lacking.
- Crab Cake was astonishingly mediocre. Bummer. Nice presentation, but tiny and not even tasty. I actually didn't even want to eat it.
- Lobster Bisque was more of a soup with lobster. Needed cream. It was good, but not what we were expecting. If it were called something else, I think we would have enjoyed it. But calling it lobster bisque... set the expectation for Lobster Bisque.
Anyway, drinks were superb. Can't remember the names and I don't see the cocktails listed online. I will say... one of the drinks was some sort of Pear drink.... not great. But the other drinks made up for it. And the bartender's service and DESSERTS more than made up it.
All in all, we'll probably be back.
Setting/atmosphere, staff - all 10/10.
Food: 8/10
Drinks: 9/10
Hugely disappointing Valentine dinner- awful uninterested service and miniscule portions.
We made reservations to first day they opened for the Surf Club for Valentine dinner for during our stay in Miami. we arrived and were seated at a impromptu table facing an exit sign and wall. After heated discussion we were moved by the very arrogant maître'd to a table in the dining room- from that point on we were basically ignored. Repeatedly had to flag down servers for everything- i know Valentine Day is a huge day for restaurants- but this was ridiculous. the portions were honestly minuscule for $550 per couple plus tax and service and any drinks [ i took a photo of the entrée and sent it as a joke to friends.] .
You did get a split of champagne that they try and make u drink first to order other wines. I refused to pay service charge- because we had none! it a beautiful place and under the right management it could be awesome- but i will not go back and recommend anyone not to. honestly not worth it!!!!
Desperate need of Keller oversight
Thomas Keller has set an expectation with his restaurants that ensure premium service and a culinary experience second to none.
Surf Club falls far below that expectation. Service not attentive and sloppy. Exception was the gentlemen who served the Dover Sole. Caesar salad, average. Oysters Rockefeller and Fettucine with Black Truffle, excellent. Dover Sole, overcooked. Eggplant Parmigiana, abysmal.
No desire to ever dine here again but look forward to our next visit at the French Laundry and Per Se.
Not what I expected
Service was excellent, but I had a $75 special salmon entree that was meh… to me. The Caesar salad made table side was meh.I thought too much salad dressing in final product. I guess I felt dinner wasn’t lights out for what we paid. It was probably just my selections?!
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful Setting, Average Food.
We loved the 1940s setting for this hotel. What better setting than a meal prepared from the kitchen from Thomas Keller? Unfortunately this is not one of his better ventures. The food is simple. Veal with salt, not properly trimmed and not a great cut. Lobster Thermador -- one small lobster tail slightly overcooked. The starters we had the avocado and garden vegitable. and the iceberg salad. Again, nothing special
For dessert, we can't remember. This all for a price of $375 for two with an inexpensive bottle of wine. Fine dining prices without the fine dining.
Thomas Keller must not be involved...
Ate here with 3 others - having eaten at Per Se and French Laundry. We were sadly disappointed for 2 avoidable reasons. The food was held and became cold while the dover Sole was prepared. Result = 4 dishes split all cold upon 1st bite. Dinner Ruined.
Biggest problem is I emailed the restaurant and hotel and i messaged them as well as TK via Instagram. I have not received one reply. Very expensive and no customer service.
I met Thomas Keller during my exceptional meal
We’ve been to the surf club a number of times now including Valentine’s Day’s, birthdays and for our again in a few weeks. The last time we were there was for my birthday and coincidentally it was Miami food and wine festival at the same time. Who do I see you walking through the dining room wearing a mask preparing table side Caesar salad, but Chef killer himself! Got the chance to meet him and he was such a down to earth, friendly person. He even came back a few times for brief exchanges on dinner items and even remembered to wish me happy birthday on the way out, a real class act along with the rest of the team. Andrew the manager is friendly and welcoming as well. The only odd interaction we had was with one of the sommeliers, who seemed perplexed when I asked to sample one of their wines by the glass offerings before ordering it… I don’t see what the big deal is, he wasn’t very friendly and momentarily took away from the whole wonderful experience. Looking forward to our next visit.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a shame.
We got sick from the diner, both of us. We shared the same dish (Beef Wellington) and we did not share anything else prior that meal.
My fiancé ended up at the hospital. I was sick for 3 days.
We reached out to notify them. The person I had on the phone asked me not to put a bad review, and that they will reimburse the diner (the least they could do).
They never did, so here goes the review… 5 months later.
We were very understanding and polite despite the all the drama we endured (mistakes happen, pretty sure it was an isolated incident).
But this is how we get rewarded.
Magnifique.
A restaurant with such standards, should treat their clientèle better… what a shame.
Heaven on a Plate
Ok, so you’re probably not coming on to Tripadvisor to decide if you’re going to eat here, the decision is already made - if not, you’re either living vicariously or seeing what all the hype is about. The Surf Club is everything you should expect of a restaurant bearing the name of Thomas Keller and his Miami team don’t disappoint. The service is flawless, the food is sublime - it’s more than worth the eye watering cheque, when you come to a destination restaurant like this - who’s really looks at the price! As the quote on their website says: “When I die, I don't want to go to heaven; I want to go to The Surf Club.”
