Toadstool Cafe Universal City Reviews from The Last Year
Immersive Meal for Mario Fans
Reviews are really mixed on this place, but once we walked into the full immersion of Super Mario World, we couldn’t resist rolling the dice and trying it out. We added ourselves to the virtual waitlist upon park open and were able to easily snag a same day booking, on a moderately busy day. The attention to detail is amazing here, any fan of Mario is going to love the theming and find many little easter eggs. The menu itself a little odd a first glace really plays into the mushroom theme, and has a little something for everyone. The biggest criticism that I read prior to going for myself, was expensive, and bland. To which I’ll say this, it is expensive, like all theme park food, no worse really IMO than any other option, though certainly more expensive than parking a pack bag and brining your own lunch. Once you’ve made the decision to eat inside the park, this is relatively on par with everything else. As to the quality of the food, it certainly wasn’t the best meal we’ve ever had, but it was tasty, with generous portion sizes. We ordered: Mario Burger w/ Truffle Fries Luigi Burger w/ Truffle Fries Toadstool Cheesy Garlic Knots If you are looking for an immersive meal and haven’t tried Hog’s Head in Hogsmeade, you might want to try there instead, though the reviews are similar! If you are a big Nintendo fan, I would give it a try!
Long line, Workers gave us attitude when we were just
Long line, Workers gave us attitude when we were just asking questions. Workers have no respect for their customers. Food is good but all you do is wait and wait. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANY TOURIST THAT COME TO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS.
If it is your first time visiting Universal Hollywood, I
If it is your first time visiting Universal Hollywood, I would recommend just so you can say you experienced it. You need a reservation to wait in line. So you wait in the first line to be shown where to order by an employee. Then you wait in the line to order your food, but they only give you your drinks on a tray and a number for you to place on your table. And then you need to wait in a third line to get seated at a table. Once at the table, you wait again for your food. Overall, we waited at least 45 minutes from the time we walked into the cafe to the time we sat at the table. Only to wait another 25 minutes for our food. And the food was typical theme park food. Nothing fantastic. Nothing that would make me want to go through that whole process again. Especially with hungry kids who just want to sit and eat and go back out to enjoy the rides. Would I recommend this place? I only recommend it if you've never tried it. The ambiance is cute, Mario themed. Service could've been better. But I'm glad we tried it to know that we'll never eat there again. It's too much of a hassle.
Worst experience ever .
We had a reservation for 2 pm and did not get to even order for an hour . Our cashier was extremely slow lane 1 Diane looked like she didn't even want to be at work. The host after ordering was extremely rude and did not want to seat us because the rest of our party was still in the middle of ordering. We asked to be moved to a different table since a person in my party is in a wheelchair and the table was uncomfortable. The host was very rude and he said that is the table I get and he won't accommodate for us. We spent over $250 on our food and it was not worth it. This has been the worst experience I ever had at any food industry. Don't waste your money or time here.
Don’t waste your time waiting even with a reservation
We had made a reservation for 245, and waited in line for an hour even with the reservation. Don’t waste your time in the park waiting for food. I cannot tell you of the food is any good as we waited forever
I've been able to try this place 2x now, thanks to my
I've been able to try this place 2x now, thanks to my friend who is a Universal employee. The first time we came was before the super Nintendo world actually opened, and we went for one of those employee days. And the second time I tried it was earlier this month. I will make this review focus on my most recent visit, but I do want to mention that I think the food and the reservation system has improved a lot since the first time I went. EXPERIENCE: My friend made reservations ahead of time for us, so I don't have experience making a reservation day of. However, I did see a QR code to scan right in front of the restaurant to try to get a spot. If you have a reservation, you show up at your reservation time, and then you get to go inside shortly after. Then you go inside and line up to order. After you order, they will seat you. Your entire party has to be present to be seated. The cafe itself is SUPER cute. Chef Toad is adorable and if you look at the screens they have up in the cafe, they are all synced and continuous with each other if an event is happening. FOOD: I tried the fire flower spaghetti, and it was honestly pretty good! It's a lil spicy. We also got to try our friends' mushroom soup and giant meatball. The mushroom soup is SUPER flavorful and umami. The giant meatball was soooo spicy. I could not really eat it haha but my partner enjoyed it a lot. PRICE: Food at universal is overpriced. This place is no exception xD The fire flower spaghetti was $17. And the mushroom soup was $20, but it was rly good and it came with a little mushroom bowl. Overall, if you haven't been yet, you should definitely try to stop by the toad stool cafe while you're visiting super nintendo world. Don't expect the food to be super good, but I'd say you're basically paying for the experience to eat inside of an immersive toad themed restaurant.
Great ambiance, but disappointing food overall.
The only redeeming meal taste was bowsers challenge. The burger was overcooked, the salad croutons are stale and the toadstool cheese garlic bread was harder than Bowser's shell. As a platinum pass member I can tell you we were right to wait 1 year to try this place. Some employees were very engaged but the majority looked sad
we got lucky to reserve a spot on a friday.
we arrived for the QR code around 11:30am and the picked the last time for reservation at 4:30pm. there was still a line when we arrived during our reservation time but the line moved pretty quickly i love how there's screens everywhere (of toad cooking and the menus) so it helped keep ourselves preoccupied while waiting to be seated you order before you get seated and they will bring the food to you ~Food~ ranked best to worst: mushroom soup: i love how flavorful this soup is. the taste of umami was very strong with a creamy flavor. i did like that it came with a souvenir container but i wish they did have an option to get the soup without the cup for a cheaper price (or at least offer a discount for bringing the container) spaghetti and mushroom: i think this dish was the most worth for the price. for $16.99 the portion was just right and the flavors were what i hoped. the meatball was juicy and there was enough sauce for the spaghetti bowser's fireball challenge: i love the idea of this dish- giant spicy meatball with flakey pastry. but the meatball was dry and felt a little rubbery. the pastry also lacked flavor and for the price, spaghetti and meatballs seemed like the better choice. i did like how spicy the meatballs and hot sauce were block tiramisu: there was a lack of actual tiramisu cake. it was mostly whipped cream, which was good but the dessert felt like straight up cream. the cookie walls were ok, lacked flavor but they added a nice texture to the cake overall, this place is nice if you're able to reserve a time and want to sit indoors after a long day of being at the park. the price is not unreasonable and i love how everything is themed ~Service: quick and friendly ~Cost: $$ pretty affordable for a sit down restaurant in an amusement park
Reservations can fill up fast, so I made sure that once I
Reservations can fill up fast, so I made sure that once I had access to the QR code to secure my appointment. We arrived to the cafe entrance ~10 minutes earlier than our appointment and were asked to wait until that time. If you're at Universal Studios, you're likely already familiar with the possibility that you're going to have to wait in a line. We were there on a Thursday, and there was a lot of people. After waiting for our dining appointment, there was another lengthy line before reaching the area to order your food. The animations and the ambiance keeps you entertained for a moment. Love the detail of the decor! I personally ordered from the Kids Menu and got the spaghetti meal because I wasn't too hungry since I had been snacking. Food was lukewarm when it arrived, and my spaghetti wasn't anything amazing. My family enjoyed the burgers they had gotten. If anything, my favorite was the Super Star Lemon Squash beverage, and it tasted extra refreshing given how hot it was the day I went. Unless you're a major Super Mario fan, I think you'd appreciate this place more, but personally, I feel like there's other enticing eateries available. Coming here was more about the experience and aesthetics for us since we were hyped about going to Super Nintendo World for our first time.
Toadstool Cafe was absolutely adorable! However, I think
Toadstool Cafe was absolutely adorable! However, I think they could enhance the overall experience. Reservations are a must here, and they filled up quickly. Fortunately, they released more slots at noon, and my group managed to get a reservation for 2 pm. We weren't allowed to line up in front of the cafe until precisely 2 pm, and once inside, we found ourselves in another queue. While waiting, they had a looping video of Chef Toad cooking, but it became repetitive after a while. It would have been more engaging if they showed him preparing different easy recipes to keep us entertained during the wait. Once we ordered, we were escorted to our table where we waited some more for our food to arrive. Despite our reservation being at 2 pm, we didn't receive our food until 3 pm, essentially spending close to 2 hours there. I opted for Bowser's Fireball Challenge, the Mario burger, and the Mt. Beanpole Cake to share. My friends tried the Super Mushroom Soup, the Toadstool Cheesy Garlic Knots, the ? Block Tiramisu, and various other items that I didn't sample. Overall, while I appreciated the charming decorations and theme, the food was just okay. Although I enjoyed the delightful decorations and theme, the food didn't buy quite live up to my expectations. Bowser's Fireball Challenge 3/5 - spicy!!! Mario burger 3/5 - the fries were crispy but the burger was dry. Mt. Beanpole Cake 4/5 - not bad, a bit sweet. Super Mushroom Soup 4/5 - so good! Expensive if you don't care to keep the mushroom bowl. Toadstool Cheesy Garlic Knots 4/5 - didn't taste much garlic, but the bread was chewy and enjoyable. ? Block Tiramisu 2/5 - I can make much better tiramisu, but I'll give them credit for the presentation.
My family and I have been trying to get a reservation to
My family and I have been trying to get a reservation to this restaurant for a long time. It usually has zero availability once 9am hits. So this time, my kids and I bought early entrance and were able to get in. First thing, they won't let you get in line before your reserved time. I appreciated this. I can't stand having to wait in line behind people who have times after mine. Secondly, once you're allowed entry, you still have to wait in a little line to order, then afterwards, a host will seat you. Third, the restaurant is pretty cool. There were some nice features like some thunder and lighting effects throughout the meal. The decor was nice, perfect for kids. Fourth, the food. It was beautifully played and everything came out so pretty. You definitely come here for the ambience and the experience. Was it gourmet and tasty? It was just okay. The mushroom soup was very bland. But my kids ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and the Bowser challenge meatball...both were tasty. It had a good kick which surprised me. My son ordered a tiramisu that didn't taste like tiramisu, but it was super cute to look at. Is Toadstool Cafe the best food at the park? IMO, no. I liked the restaurant at the Harry Potter area much better. But it was a fun experience and I didn't regret the money spent there.
Honestly I wish I could experience this for the first time
Honestly I wish I could experience this for the first time again! The experience in itself is on point. Make sure you scan the QR code early on in the day because reservations fill so fast. We paid for early access to Super Mario World and only 20 minutes in all reservations were full. After getting our reservation we got a confirmation email and arrived 5 minutes before our reservation and got let in to the entry way. Toad is on a screen to welcome you in and then you get to order at the cashier. We ordered the super star lemon squash, Mario Burger, Bowsers Fireball Challenge, and the Block Tiramisu. The lemon squash was like a lemon soda with some boba jelly and was relatively refreshing. Bowser's Fireball challenge had a good spice to it but I wish the meatball was more moist because it was fairly dry. The Mario Burger was pretty decent but came out lukewarm and was also pretty dry. The Block Tiramisu was the best thing we had although it's a small serving it came in a mystery block made of shortbread cookies. Overall the food is alright but the experience and decor is so immersive and very well put together that I would recommend experiencing it at least once.
Theming is on point, super cute.
The food is just okay. Small portions for the price. I ordered the tomato soup and the portion was smaller than I was expecting. I was expecting a bowl and received a cup. Garlic knots were bland. I would have liked a stronger garlic flavor. I went on a day with a long wait time. It was about 1hr from my reservation time to the time I sat down at a table. Plus another half hour wait for food.
Get there early scan QR code to get a reservation I got
Get there early scan QR code to get a reservation I got there at 1100 the earliest reservation was 545. Service was good. Food is not the best. Desserts are tiny. I think food could have a lil more warm. Restaurant is real cute inside. Don't think I would eat there again.
It’s a great experience!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and experience at Toad Stool Cafe. I’ll be honest though, it’s a long wait, despite having a reservation. You line up at your reservation time to get in, you go in and lineup to order food (fast food style), you then lineup to get seated at a table. Once at the table, relax and enjoy the quirks of the restaurant while you wait for your food!
Toadstool Cafe
Our family went to Universal Studios Hollywood mainly to see Super Nintendo World so we certainly wanted to eat at Toadstool Cafe. Reservations were done by scanning a QR code but it wasn’t available immediately when we entered. We had to keep checking and I believe the site opened for reservations around 9. We made ours for 11:45 which gave us more than enough time to see everything in Super Nintendo Land. Once it was our time we joined the line for a fairly extensive wait before being able to order our food. After ordering you are seated and the food is brought out to you which also takes awhile. The interior is very cool and continues the immersive theme of being inside a Nintendo game. The food also fits the theme and is great for pictures. Everything was good if not that memorable but it’s theme park food and you go here for the atmosphere. I don’t know that I would go here again due to the wait but we had a great experience and everyone should go at least once if you are visiting Super Nintendo World and love the games.
Amazing experience
Great experience, slow service but place was packed at 12pm. Mushroom soup is a must, burger was cold but was very good, do not try the peach cupcake is too sweet and does not taste good. No refills are offered, no waiters available, its like a self serve restaurant.
Best place to eat in Universal Studios
You cant make a reservation in advance and have to make it when you get into the park so you should go straight there to set it up. The menu is so much fun and all the food is themed and super good. We got the Luigi Burger, Fire Flower Spaghetti & Meatballs, Super Star Lemon Squash drink and Princess Peach Cupcake as they were out of the ? Block Tiramisu. Everything was so good. The place also has screens where you can see toads moving around and at times shows a Bowser attack. Totally worth the price and time to go there.
Nice place, with poor food
nice place, I ordered a caesar salad but the chicken was hard as a board very bad!!! The other dishes are acceptable, but don't order the salad unless you want to lose a tooth!!!
Not Worth the Hype Right now
We did not score a reservation our first day entering Mario World. But we had early access the next day and were able to get a lunch reservation. The lines were long to enter to order our food. And the line to get seated was also long. It was chaotic inside. I had the Mushroom Soup which had a souvenir bowl—costing $19. My Tiramisu came out late. It looked like they ran out of Tiramisu and made a large batch—many of us were waiting for our dessert. My soup and dessert were quite pricey but delicious. It looked like the cafe was understaffed. I saw the same lady at the register also taking a turn bussing the tables—maybe they rotate positions. The atmosphere inside was very noisy.
Like Mario? Eat here
The theming is so good here. You feel like you are in the games, down to the food. We ordered the Fireball Pasta and the Flag Cake. The pasta was good, but rather spicy. If you don't like spicy foods, it's not for you (order the kid's meal instead). The cake was delicate and flavorful, except for the matcha layer, which was hardly noticable.
Food is ok better than expected but bad service.
Everything inside is cute. It makes you feel that you are really dining in Mushroom Kingdom with Toads. The food actually taste ok. The mushroom soup, fire spaghetti and burgers are all decent. The only thing that is bad is the service. It took a good 30 mins before the food comes out. The services and the cashiers are not that friendly. All items in there are pricey and you would expcect a ore friendly service but unfortunately it is not. Getting a reservation is hard. You will need to keep trying early in the morning. Recommending going there for the experience minuses the service.
Totally cool
Had a fun lunch here. Scanned in and got a reservation early because it all the reservations are gone by midday. Burgers, pasta, and dessert rule the day here. I don’t know why they give truffle fries as the side for burgers, would have preferred regular fries. It was a fun experience and I would go back next time I was at Universal Studios. You have to be in the park to go to this restaurant.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
