Disappointing service! While the food was great, the server
Disappointing service! While the food was great, the server who handed my friend the card reader watched over her shoulder while adding the tip. The server asked what made the service so bad that we weren't going to tip over 15%. This left our whole table feeling extremely uncomfortable. She could have tactfully asked us what in the service was lacking in order to bump up the tip in the future but instead came off as very rude!
Be the first to ReplyFood was very good and portions were great.
However, service was not great. Like others mentioned, the hostess at the front was rude and attempted to force us to tip higher than standard (saying it was MA law).
Be the first to ReplyRecently tried this Sushi place on a short Boston visit.
we had to wait a bit because they don't take reservations, but was definitely worth it. Great food, excellent fast service. Overall, one of the top Sushi experiences I've had. Highly recommended

Very fresh fish! Very nice hole in the wall sushi spot in Boston. best raw fish I've had in east coast. Probably not the best place to take your time in given the space. Staff was quiet and nice! The prices honestly are pretty good for quality and quantity.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my favorite restaurant in Boston by far.
There is a line at peak dinner time since this is a very small space and it's first come, first serve. If you are coming with a large group, I recommend coming slightly before or after peak times. The service is always very fast. The fish is always so fresh. My normal go to is either the sake aisuru don or the tottori don.

TL;DR: great quality sushi bowls, cute interior vibes, nice service My friends and I were doing a food tour all around Boston, and we stopped by this spot to get some more sushi. We were able to snag a seat since it was right before dinner time. FOOD: ~Uni Ikura Don (5/5): came with heaping amount of ikura and uni. The rice was tasty and everything was fresh ~Tora Don (5/5): This came with SO much fish. The assortment was great and all the fish was so fresh Highly recommend for high quality and quantity sushi bowls!
Be the first to ReplyThe mackerel, tuna, and squid here are pretty spectacular.
Salmon is decent, but I tend to find east coast salmon lacking in general. We came on a Friday night with no reservation and waited for about 20 minutes for a party of 3. K13: Salmon, mackerel, tuna, squid, shrimp, and uni. It was a mid-sized bowl with a side of miso. Presentation is stunning. Would recommend. Sake: We had two servings of the yuzu sake. It was DELICIOUS. Fruity, smooth blend of flavors.
Be the first to ReplySmall but cozy Fresh fish with lots of options.
I personally wouldn't have gotten my bowl again. Ramen was good Service is on the slower side
Be the first to ReplyWow! This place was amazing from the moment we walked in.
Super chill vibe, excellent service and the most delicious sushi I've had this year. It was gobbled up so quickly I missed the best pics. It is a tiny place so I recommend coming early. I can't stop thinking about our meal and look forward to coming back.

An absolute gem in Chinatown! They only take walk-in and the space is pretty small, so keep that in mind if you have a big party. The service was quick and friendly, I love it. And the food, OMG! Everything we got tasted so fresh and delicious. They also have some amazing deal for lunch menu as well, definitely recommend!

OMGEEE the sake toro was AMAZINGGG sooo buttery and melted in your mouth! Also tried the pork bowl and each piece was decadent! Definitely worth the wait and place was super cozy
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food quality, service, and presentation! The staff
Amazing food quality, service, and presentation! The staff also gave me suggestions on which don to choose. The wait was pretty short as a solo diner and the food came out extremely fast. I had a dinner at the bar with the sake maguro hamachi don, which came with three fresh and thick slices of each fish type and was paired with sushi rice, fresh grated wasabi, ginger, pickled daikon, and miso soup. It was nice to try the different types of fish, all really fresh and tasty paired with soy sauce and toppings, and the set was definitely filling. I definitely plan to come back and try their other dons!
Be the first to ReplyNice quiet Japanese place in Boston's Chinatown.
Super chill place to get a fairly quick bowl. Service- fast and easy. THEY HAVE A WAIT SYSTEM Food- It's hard to mess up fresh fish unless its not fresh. This is fresh. Again, fast but good. Lowkey wanna try the wagyu next time. Nagahama was right for me this time.
Be the first to ReplyFresh as can be! Love this spot! Great staff.
Super quick service! Highly recommend any time you are in the area or far away (worth it!)! :)

We went early so there was no wait to be seated and ~30min wait for the food. It was pretty tasty, my favorite was the tuna
Be the first to ReplyGot lucky to be seated right away on a Saturday evening
Got lucky to be seated right away on a Saturday evening (6pm). The place is small so on the menu I saw "90 min dine in policy" You can view menu by scanning the QR code. When ready the staff will take your order. I got the torched yellowtail and tuna maki (shurayuki). It was ok, hoping for white truffle flavor but tasted like kewpie mayo instead. Tuna don was filling but I didn't care for the "special sauce." The slimy film on top of every tuna pieces was weird. No sauce available on the table. When we asked for ponzu sauce, it was an additional charge ($2) for a shallow dish. The star of the night was the hamachi collar (put the order in asap because it takes 20 mins to grill). It was juicy and flavorful. The picture I took was blurry but it was a decent portion.
Be the first to ReplyThe salmon don is great as always, wagyu is a bit too
The salmon don is great as always, wagyu is a bit too cooked, it masks the texture and highlight the fatty taste too much. Also the green tea is not really green tea but more between tea and matcha...But what upsets me is the service. One star for the service and disrespect by the waiters.I asked for extra shiso leaves (2 dollars for 4 pieces) and it took incredibly long for the waitress to bring it to me. I raised my hand couple of times, she probably saw me but never bothered to acknowledge it. So I had no idea what was going on. Then at the end, me and my friend wanted to pay for our food separately, a waiter came and told us the menu had a notice saying they never do Dutch, they only split bills evenly or one person paying all, no exceptions. I got confused because I never heard of anything like this. And my friend started to study all tiny words in the menu, and couldn't find the "no splitting bill" line anywhere. The waiter looked at it himself and couldn't find it either. Then he admitted he didn't know how to use the new payment app, and he basically said he couldn't do it, he didn't know how to do it, it's on the menu somewhere, otherwise he had to call his colleagues for help. Eventually someone else came and helped us pay for our items separately-- turned out to be just 2 clicks on the screen. The other waiter also never mentioned anything about the restaurant banning customers from paying for items they each had. I got very upset and feel being disrespected by the waiter's attempts to fool me and my friend, and decided to go for 15% tip (lunch) and the waiter was like "oh no no no that's disaster." What? Was your service not disastrous? You tried to fool us just because you were not sufficiently trained to do checkouts and didn't bother to ask! You were the one that told me you didn't want tips with your actions and attitudes. Never coming back, ever.
Be the first to ReplyBack in Boston and this spot is as good as ever! Came by on
Back in Boston and this spot is as good as ever! Came by on a ~7pm Saturday which is definitely a prime time - the line was out the door and we put our name down on the list. ~45min later our name was called and we snagged a seat at the bar. In terms of ambience, it's a tiny spot but the seats aren't ridiculously close together so you can have a convo without feeling like you're speaking into a stranger's ear. Service is very fast as well and they'll give you drinks and take your order asap if you're ready (and won't rush you if you aren't!). Got the Nagahama Don (4.9/5) and Orenji Maki (5/5). 0.1 subtracted from the Don because it had so little rice. We got a side of sushi rice ($3) to compensate for it but wish it was part of the dish.Nagahama Don: So generous with the pieces, spot shrimp was so plump and sweet. Salmon was so soft and fatty, fell apart in my mouth and there was a good portion of uni. The squid was sticky and a bit tough as you'd expect and made into a beautiful heart on top. The dish came with miso soup.Orenji Maki: We ordered way too much at this point. This dish came with 4 pieces of sushi that also had generous portions of fish. So good and refreshing. Would definitely recommend as well - the mayo provide a good balance to make the dish taste different enough from the chirashi to not feel like we were eating the same thing.
Be the first to ReplyTora is one of my favorite places to eat in Boston.
They have fair prices for their fresh fish and generous portions. This place never ceases to amaze me every. single. time. There are plenty of options I have tried, but my absolute favorite is their Sake Aisura Don. It's total salmon galore! Fresh salmon, minced salmon, and salmon belly... Can you ask for more?! There are some sushi roll options, but their dons are where it's at! Their dons typically come with a soup, pickled radish, and are very filling with their large portions of protein and rice. Overall, this place is a must try! Everyone I brought here has loved it and it definitely has been the most memorable spot they ate at. What are you waiting for? Check them out!

You definitely get your moneys worth!!Fresh quality It gets a little cold sometimes but make sure to get there early there's usually a wait
Be the first to ReplyYou got what you paid for.
The fish quality is so good it's worth every penny. It feels like a fresh ocean for every bite, we enjoyed the whole meal. Wasabi is also high quality compared to other sushi places. The restaurant is quite small but cozy. They were really nice for giving me a basket to put my bag in instead of the floor.
Be the first to ReplyThis will always be one of my fav spots for a fresh salmon
This will always be one of my fav spots for a fresh salmon bowl. After several years, the quality is still the same each time I go. Even for takeout, the quality is just as good and they don't skimp on what they offer!!It's a pretty small space with some bar seating and some tables, and it's underground, so it's pretty lowkey if you don't know about it- but it's worth checking out, especially because they have one of the best salmon bowls in the Boston area. It's not just pretty to look at, but actually so good. I'm always craving!!Recently I've been doing takeout more just for convenience, but whenever I eat there, they are always pretty attentive and helpful. So glad to have this gem in Chinatown!
Be the first to ReplyI have tried so many sushi restaurants in the Boston area
I have tried so many sushi restaurants in the Boston area and most of them have been pretty awful. Tora was a pleasant surprise. My friend ordered the salmon, tuna, and yellowtail donburi and I had the gyudon. The fish on my friend's disg was cut in thick pieces, giving an overall good texture and bite to the fish. It was also extremely fresh tasting. The sushi rice was also lightly seasoned and went well with the fish. The gyudon was mediocre and had a super stingy portion of meat. I would recommend getting a double portion of meat to balance out the rice better. I also hope they add a little more of the cooking liquid/broth/sauce so you don't end up with dry white rice. Then again, the even better solution would be to skip the cooked donburi altogether and go with either sushi or one of the raw fish options.
Be the first to ReplyWe came here for dinner around 6pm on a Thursday and there
We came here for dinner around 6pm on a Thursday and there was only seating left around the sushi bar. We had to wait a bit to get seated nonetheless and upon first glimpse, it didn't seem like they had too much staff in the front. They were also pretty adamant about squishing all patrons together for space which was fine, but they were pretty curt and almost rude about it. The service was definitely not super friendly, but they were super quick with taking orders and getting us water. The menu is full of options between fish bowls and meat bowls as well as other sushi entrees so I would say it was hard to choose, but only because of how good everything looked! I settled on the bowl with all tuna pieces and added some salmon as well. The fish entrees came out really quickly, but the other member of my party's pork bowl came out very slowly. It was a little strange that they didn't time it to come out at the same time and we waited what seemed like a full 10 minutes before their bowl came out. Definitely not ideal. The flavor and size of the bowl was pretty good - it was pricy, but the fish was so delicious and high in quality so I couldn't complain. The roll was fine, but I'd say the bowl is where they shine for sure. Overall, I enjoy Tora, but their service leaves something to be desired. I like stopping by for the quality of their ingredients, but just don't expect amazing service.
