Truly unique experience.
This was my first time trying yakitori in this way. Each piece of the chicken is coursed out and served hot and fresh. It's interesting to experience the unique taste and texture of each part of the chicken. Service is friendly and the atmosphere is festive.Insider's Tip: Come hungry. I was skeptical skewers would fill be up but it ends up being a lot of food!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing yakitori experience.
Dinner is omakase style, everything they serve is cooked to perfection. Great serves also, perfect for celebrating something special (or good food).
Be the first to Replyamazing.
..!I recently had the pleasure of dining at Torien, and I must say it was an incredible experience. The chicken softbone was especially delicious - it was cooked to perfection! The chicken skin was also superb - it was definitely some of the best yakitori I've ever had in NYC. Highly recommend!

The food on the other hand is average. It's good but nothing deserving of another trip back. What lacked in the food was creativity. While there should be a dedication to providing "authentic" yakitori experience, there should also be a reason for a diner to look forward to going back for. At Torien, everything I had felt familiar and slightly less impressive than what I had elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic from start to finish.
Unique dining experience with a flair for the presentation and tastiness. Chef Rodrigo, chef Daniel and hostess Dee made it special with host Casey making sure everything was perfect. I'll be back and I'm bringing some friends!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful yakitori, and awesome tea menu.
In an ideal world I would live a Japanese neighborhood where I could go to an izakaya that serves this every day after work (for less than $50 because we're dreaming). Favorite bites were the chicken thigh and chicken breast skewers. Liver skewer was meh.
Be the first to ReplyCooking is good and service is impeccable.
However the menu is pricey considering the ingredient is just mediocre: broccoli, chicken breast and radish. The experience is great but it simply doesn't match 200$ per person. If you'd like a genuine yakitori experience it's worth a try but it's definitely overpriced.

The new one Michelin star yakitori for 2022!15-course $180 will surely make you happyThe first raw beef with tomato and fried chicken skin crisp, tart and appetizing! The second chicken thighs were charred on the outside and tender on the inside. The third chicken breast wrapped in basil leaves was tender and juicy. My friends loved the second and third skewers. The fourth chicken thigh meat was wrapped in shallots and the meat was tender. The fifth shoulder meat was more tender than the thigh meat. The seventh grilled chicken wings came with lemon, so you could squeeze your own lemon juice. The eighth potato was super tender and buttery! There was a layer of caramel on top. The ninth two grilled chicken knee pieces with shredded raw onion. The tenth grilled mushrooms were delicious and juicy. The eleventh chicken skin locked in the juices so the chicken was tender. The twelfth zucchini was charred and juicy. The thirteenth meatball was the one I was most looking forward to and tasted like a Japanese meatball. The fourteenth has a choice of chicken broth runny egg ramen or chicken proscuitto with chicken broth.

You first walk up to a blacked out establishment with no sign on the door. Very secretive I would say. Upon entering we were greeted and sat almost immediately. The chefs all greeted us loudly and proudly. The service throughout the whole dinner was spectacular with great attention to detail. I left extremely full which I am glad because the meal was not cheap. I will say it was worth it and I would recommend it as one of your splurge meals when visiting or as a local. We celebrated our anniversary this weekend and this meal satisfied us.After the meal the host and chef walked us out and waved to us until we reached the end of the block.
Be the first to ReplyI had a fantastic meal there.
Service was very gracious and the food was amazing. The special charcoal gets so hot that all the chicken skewers I had were so juicy and flavorful. It's my favorite place for yakitori in NYC by far.

Came here for my birthday, we arrived early, but there is no bar, and you are not allowed entry until your scheduled time. Understandable because our reservation was at 8:00 pm and they didn't want to rush the 5:30 parties. Every piece was made with precision. The chef makes the yakitori over coal in front of you, and explains to you each piece, along with the best way to eat it. There is a pre-set menu, however you are able to order extra pieces. My favorite were the quail eggs along with the chicken cartilage. Definitely a place we would be visiting again. It's not a place I would frequent, but if anyone has a special occasion and wants to experience authentic Japanese yakitori this is the place to visit. Staff is attentive, and atmosphere puts you at ease.

We had a private room for 4 guests. It was really dark inside. Felt like we were being served by fancy ninjas. The skewers were equally delicious and the meats were tender. The waiter explained which spice paired well with each dish. Green spice had an interesting numbing taste. The beers tasted great - Echigo Stout was dark but didn't taste heavy & the Kawaba was light. We ordered their specialty for that evening -- esophagus and tail. They sold out of chicken artery. Started to get full half way through the course. Surprising because the skewers were small. I personally didn't like the daikon radish (palate cleanser). The waiter gave us complimentary Yuzu sake -- thank you!! Restaurant was well worth the experience for the price tag.

We've been wanting to try Torien for awhile because we love Torishin and thought it would be nice to try a new yakitori place. The atmosphere and food were both really great and met our expectations. All the ingredients were so fresh and each skewer was delicious. Highlights were the thigh, kawa, quail egg, and one of the specials that had egg and caviar. The oyako-don and ramen were both delicious too! Surprisingly the dessert which was a chestnut mont blanc was SO GOOD - maybe my favorite. The sake and drinks also met our expectations. Overall though it was quite expensive - way more than we pay at Torishin and we still prefer the taste and menu options at Torishin. Definitely recommend it for a special occasion and to try it at least once!
Be the first to ReplyI loved Yakitori in Japan, and the experience I/we had
I loved Yakitori in Japan, and the experience I/we had yesterday was a reminder of how great simple foods can be delicious with the right people behind the heat. If this place is even within striking distance of good within the OG in Tokyo, Torishiki, man, if I ever make it back, will give them my money for this food.We got to our reservation 15 minutes early and were able to seat us. The Started with a duck confit appetizer, followed by thigh, shoulder, pearl onion, heart, yukon gold potatoes, neck skin, a mashed potato/egg, shittake mushroom, wings, quail eggs, shin w/whole grain mustard, meatballs, paitan ramen and we added the esophagus and liver. There were many ~17 swings and zero misses, here. My personal favorites were the esophagus (if you can divorce the idea of the anatomy, it was fantastic), thigh, neck skin, shin, anything with egg and paitan ramen--so basically, everything. The eggs--whether in the mashed potato bowl, the ramen or the quail eggs, all with that distinct orange yolk that I have only consistently see in Japan--all fantastic. All pieces of the chicken pieces had intense flavor and great char. But that ramen--that ramen--one of the best bowls I've had. A simple, savory and smoky flavor of the broth with firm noodles--I wish I could order that separately.Service was attentive, but not overbearing. Minimalist and sleek decor. Watching the chefs fan the smoke when grilling the proteins was a nice extra during the experience. And, the toilet seat opens up when you enter the bathroom!Yeah, this entire jawn is expensive, but if you're even remotely interested, enjoy the adventure.

This was not just a meal but an experience! Amazing food and service, really cool ambiance.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible.
We arrived a little early for a 05:30pm reservation and killed time at Tom & Jerry's (cash only) bar until the doors opened. Everyone from front of house to the chefs preparing the meal were absolutely wonderful people. My fiancé and I have done plenty of omakase meals before in Portland and stupidly set our expectations slightly lower than the places we had eaten at before (Nodoguro, Le Pigeon), but we're absolutely blown away by all the dishes prepared for us. We would 100% return for the exact same meal paying the exact same prices; it was that good. Thank you all for your incredible work at your craft, we cannot recommend this place enough!
Be the first to ReplyYes! Yes! Yes! Ambience 10/10, service and professionalism
Yes! Yes! Yes! Ambience 10/10, service and professionalism of staff 10/10, food 20/10. Unpretentious little Cozy spot, which serves authentic Yakitori. Though it is a little hard to find. The staff all well dressed in suits that fit properly, the restaurant is basically a bar that sits 15 people, and quite hard to get a reservation here, and that's perfectly understandable. This is an amazing spot because the waiters and chefs raise the bar. The menu consists of a 14 course meal, now don't be alarmed, the portions are designed to keep you wanting.. more. Each guest is assigned a chef, and your meal is cooked right in front of you, by chefs who look like they absolutely love their jobs and love to feed you. Atsushi was our chef and he was a delight. I could be exaggerating, but believe me, when I say, each dish is served with love, perfection and wholesomeness, and you could taste that , in the meals because everything we had was tasty, fresh and out of this world. Aki was our server, and he was very friendly but professional. The night started off with a welcome appetizer, then we were served daikon radish which is a palette cleanser to prepare our taste buds for the next dish which were the thighs, 10/10. Although I loved each dish that was served, my Favorite plates were the cartilage because of the uniqueness, the skewer break- aka truffle soup, hearts, wings, thighs- very well seasoned, neck skin, and the chicken over rice with truffles. What I loved the most, was that when we made the resy, We indicated a Food allergy, and my chef -Asushi remembered and immediately swapped my plate with something more accommodating, (talk about hospitality)Bathrooms were extremely clean, with automatic toilet seats (fancy) waiters were extremely attentive, and we were able to bring our own bottle of wine. Torien is definitely an adventure I would like to experience again.
Be the first to Reply5 stars for service For almost $200 per person, you get 2
5 stars for service For almost $200 per person, you get 2 tiny pieces of eggplant, one shiitake mushroom, dessert with mostly whipped cream, and parts of chicken that can be bought at whole food for less than $5 (except heart and neck skin, but I doubt they cost more than $10 for each person)...so shame on me of not reading other people's reviews. If you want to get ripped off, this is the place to go. Oh, i think I'm gonna quit chicken for a week. And my partner got stomach flu

Choose the Ramen, the dish I will be dreaming about that closed our our food journey. Loved the flavor of the char and elevated essence of the simple pieces of meat. Favorites: neck and wing, with the crispy charred edges.Intimate dining experience and delicious meal with awesome sake pairings and attentive service.

From start to finish it was a treat, master chef and hat off to this place. Everything is perfect and meticulous, bravo.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely some of the best yakitori ive ever had.
Extremely well prepared and carefully thought out menu. Chefs and staff are incredibly friendly and professional. Omotenashi in nyc at its best. Everything was delicious but neck skin stood out of the crowd. You won't be disappointed.
