From time to time, I got some messages asking me how to get into The Teriyaki House Pico, aka Totoraku for dinner. Honestly, I still don't fully know how to get in here to eat by myself. For me I don't have the chef's business card, I don't have the secret phone number, I don't have the restaurant invitation, I don't have whatever. All I have is a friend that is willing to treat me to eat there as long as I bring along some wine, particularly cabernet, and specifically "Screaming Eagle".I told my friend and said we had mostly cab on our last visit at Totoraku, how about we skip the eagle and I'll bring some pinot since I think they match better with the light beef marination, what about Vosne Romanee wine? a couple bottles from Richebourg and maybe a bottle from Cros Parantoux vinyard? The answer I got was "maybe next time then"....sensing my friend is backing out, I quickly confirm to bring the Screaming Eagle, and together with some other Cali cult wine, once again I am heading to LA most exclusive restaurant.Once I was seated, I laid out all the wine on the table and popped 2 bottles of Hundred Acre to warm up our taste bud. When the grill was brought to the table, our taste bud are all ready and I quickly grill a few pcs of beef tongue to start pairing with the eagle. A variety of meat like boneless short ribs, ribeye, tenderloin, lamb chop, etc were served next and we had the Abacus and Scarecrow to finish them off.Since I was seated at the table towards the end of the restaurant, each patron have to walk pass my table if they need to go to the restroom. A patron walk by and said "Wow Screaming Eagle, nice wine", and I reply "Sure it is". Few moments later a 2nd patron passed by and said "What vintage is your Eagle?". I smile and said "2009, still young as a baby". A few more moments later a 3rd patron pass by and said "I wish I am in your party drinking the eagle". I was curious and ask "Do you really mean it? Would you let me dine with you if I brought over a bottle of Screaming Eagle?". 3rd patron said of course and at that moment I think I crack the secret on how to come here to eat, the answer is Screaming Eagle. If I walk into the restaurant with a bottle of Screaming Eagle and ask who want to share, based on what I saw tonight, one of the patron at the restaurant will let me join their table and eat here, that way I don't need invitation, business card or keep asking others how to get in. BUT....use the eagle at your own risk, Burgs lover like myself will certainly decline the request.Click Useful if you think Screaming Eagle will get you a seat at Totoraku.Click Funny if you are a Burgs lover, only DRC or HJ can do the trick.Click Cool if you think having a California Cult wine night at Totoraku is a cool thing to do.
