Towa - Japanese Cuisine Reviews from The Last Year

The only thing I can tell you is that we ordered 98% of the menu. Was it a lot of food? For five, it was JUST right. Service was spot on, sake choices weren't bad, and food was delicious. Paying for the meal literally cost me an arm and a leg but if I had to do it again, I would - I'll just have someone else pay.

The Uni Ikura Chawanmushi, Kamo Soba, and Futo Maki were my favorites! Uni Ikura Chawanmushi is a great way to savor and enjoy the flavor of uni and fish eggs. Futo Maki had such fresh ingredients and fish!

We went for a dining experience they were holding to celebrate their second anniversary. AMAZING. The theme was no-waste, and to that end, they were using every part of the tuna. There was broth made from the skin and bones of the fish, and there were cuts from all different areas. We were not able to get a seat at the chef's bar, but that was the only regret of the night. Walking in, they kindly took my coat and provided me with a basket for my purse. The decor was minimalist but still warm and the space gave the impression of intimacy. The staff were incredibly attentive and explained each dish when it hit the table. For pairings, they had recommended different sake for each course, but I decided upon ordering one sake per grouping. They were delicious. One of the more memorable dishes was the Katsu Sando, but made with a very thick and juicy portion of tuna instead of pork. Coated in an airy crisp and sandwiched between two pieces of crust less white bread, the flavor was so good that I still can remember that first bite. I didn't want the event to end. Everything, from the staff to the dishes, made it an incredible night and I can't wait to see what they do for their third anniversary. Whatever it is they decide upon, I will definitely be there for it!
I honestly don't understand why this place has such amazing
I honestly don't understand why this place has such amazing ratings. It's very mid in my opinion, just extremely overpriced and underwhelming. I came her with my bf to celebrate our anniversary after seeing all of the 5 star reviews. We ordered an array of different dishes including some sushi/sashimi, donburi, maki rolls, and a steamed egg. Everything was okay and extremely small portions. We were stunned by the $36 donburi being just as big as the chawanmushi we got. There was nothing special in it, just uni, ikura and rice. The amount of uni was so small, I could barely taste it. For the maki rolls, the uni wagyu maki was completely overshadowed by the taste of the asparagus. I did enjoy the crunch and the flavor that it added but I felt that two pieces was way too much. Each time, I had to eat the uni separately to even taste it. The futo maki was quite an experience. Each piece was the size of a half dollar, huge! I did enjoy the roll but I think it was too much going on, especially with the slimy texture of the okra. I liked the sashimi but at $10 a piece, I would expect it to not to be stringy or so small. Overall, all of 6 items came out to be about $200. We were both so sad after we finished the meal and had to go and get more food afterwards. One major plus though was the service. The staff was very attentive and gave different plates and utensils for each dish we had. It was changed out frequently and our water was always refilled. This is a beautiful place but unfortunately, I don't think it's worth the price tag.

Service was exceptional and the food was good but overall, a bit disappointing. There are two dining options, omakase (counter seating) and a la carte (dining table). The chefs at the counter were responsible for serving both. This might seem minute but it feels odd/confusing seeing the chef prepare food that were not part of the omakase course. It interrupts the "omakase experience". Overall the food was good but the value wasn't there for the price point. There were only 9 nigiri sushi. Two courses were broth, fish bone and miso. It tastes good but nothing special. The futomaki felt like a glorified kimbap. For a 17 course omakase, it leaves much to be desired. Although omakase was a letdown, the a la carte menu might be worth a try.
Authentic, unique, yet casual Japanese dining experience.
Although they have an Omakasa tasting menu, we decided to order à la carte from a beautiful menu - both visually and culinarily. This is high-end Japanese done in a friendly, supportive atmosphere, with great service and a relaxed feel. You'll definitely feel right at home. Do what we did, and try a bunch of things from the menu. Everything was absolutely delicious, and very approachable. Five full stars.

Outstanding omakase! Sitting at the bar and watching the chefs in action, as they present a perfect fresh nigiri on your plate - so fun. Service was attentive and we enjoyed conversing with the chef; he even slipped us an extra fatty tuna after asking us which nigiri was our favorite. My spouse loves sushi, and having been to some great places in NYC, DC, and up and down the West Coast, Towa is his favorite. Yes, $150 per person was quite the splurge, though we've spend more on other omakases and they weren't as good.
Amazing good and staff.
One of my favorite omakses in the city. $65 for lunch omakase is a deal
In my top 3 for best homestyle Japanese in NYC.
Feels super healthy while still yummy and all ingredients taste very high quality. Some of my fave dishes are the shabu shabu, clay pot rice, and any of their tempura. I came for the New Year's handmade soba and it was one of my fave lunch meals I have ever had!!
Outstanding next level sushi.
Let the chef do his magic you will not be disappointed. Intimate and relaxing atmosphere. Checks all the right boxes.
Restaurant services
I often receive guests at the restaurant, but today what made me feel disappointed was that I wanted the four of us to have 1 mochi ball each because we were very full, but the staff here said that the kitchen did not agree because we had planned amount of 1/3 tablet. I think this restaurant is classy so it should be flexible to meet customers' needs. We didn't want to waste anything so we tried to eat everything even though we were too full because we were dieting. We hope that the restaurant will consider being more flexible like the way it serves abroad, and should not force customers. I really feel like every time I come to this restaurant because of the view and delicious food, but after this time I have to think about whether I should come back after using this service many times.
I had a glorious time at Towa restaurant.
This restaurant serves good sashimi and sushi, both of which I like. Our fish special tonight is a raw kimedai. I don't know exactly the name of the fish but you can see the picture below. Moreover, the service was speedy as we had the reservation in advance. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Fresh seafood, nice view, good service
The Japanese restaurant is located on the 28th floor, parking is also very easy, there is a security guard to guide you. The view is super romantic at night. If you go with friends and want to have your girlfriend take you up to eat, watch the view and enjoy exquisite dishes, the flavor is unquestionable. The seafood is fresh and the service is professional and attentive. Will definitely come back
Love the sushi and the grilled eel!
It’s really hard to find a perfect Japanese restaurant. But Towa was one of a few places that at least feels good. I’m a big fan of Japanese cuisine and this restaurant definitely know how to execute the sashimi! There is one more dish that y’all should try: the grilled eel (10/10).
Will be back
Fresh and diverse seafood. Delicious food, attentive, enthusiastic and very professional service. Cozy space with private room

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

Give the best answerDoes support work ?
I am having a tough time contacting and elucidating a response from AT Support. I had a listing at 6pm, which was a mistake as the actual listing reservation was at 11pm. This got somehow approved by AT, and a customer bought this from me for 6pm. I want to cancel this listing and refund customer , but there is no way of doing this ! This is so frustrating and making me lose hope on AT. Can someone help me please?

Banned from Resy for selling reservations- Do we have a rat on our hands???
I am new to this app and started off by selling a polo bar reservation and then quickly sold one more reservation. Not long after I received emails from Resy saying all my reservations are cancelled and I am being banned from Resy for life. How could this have possibly happened without a rat telling Resy that I sold the reservation. I need some advice on this situation and let’s catch the rat!
Give the best answerBid and Buy Instantly
I have a big ongoing and it also shows someone is working on my bid. Today I see there is a " Buy Instantly " option at my portfolio showing same price I've bid for a reservation. I'm a bit confused, since my money has already been deducted from my credit card for the bid, do I need to pay one more time for the Buy Instantly? If I choose Buy Instantly, can I cancel my bid ( while someone is working on it )? Thanks!

You can only deposit $50 at a time until you earn the “Sales and Low Refund Medal” I believe. Im new to this as well but the ability to deposit more money at once and increase your amount of listings comes with that medal.

Give the best answerNewbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!
