The locals don't lie
Upon walking in the bar and restaurant were packed. Luckily I managed to get a stool at the bar after about 5 minutes wait. Settling in I was recommended the ribs with the hotter of the available sauces. Accompanied with an Old Fashioned. The ribs were fall of the bone delicious, and the sauce certainly had a kick. I ended up having a good chat with some locals, and another Old Fashioned. The drinks were expertly made by the bar man, who clearly knew what he was doing.

Such a great hidden gem! My husband liked the ribs so much he ordered another round!! Loved the service and all the food! Also great with kids!
Be the first to ReplyFabulous ribs, English like pub
Fabulous place. Reminds me of an English pub. Very good service very nice beer anchor steam. The best ribs in town The burger, chicken and fish and chips were also good Definitely a little jewel hidden away in northern Chicago city
Be the first to ReplyLocal & delightful
Food was good. Service was excellent. Place was thriving with a mix of families with Younglings to business & everything in between. Ordered pulled pork sandwich with zesty sauce & grilled salmon sandwich.

Visited with another couple. We ordered a burger and ribs. Both were excellent and worth every penny. The atmosphere was wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Ribs
Ordered ribs and chicken for carryout...as always, you can't beat the ribs and the chicken and zesty sauce was yummy...the only issue was they didn't get the order correct...we had too many orders to check in the restaurant so had to trust it was all there but one item missing and other wrong...so, if possible, I'd suggest double checking before departing if you get carryout...however, they were extremely busy so mistakes happen...classic rib joint so would highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyLovely dinner for 2
Lovely dinner for 2 with friendly service and lovely food. Always popular and busy so get in pre 6pm to best the rush. Very short walk from a CTA station. I had full rack of ribs with beans and prohibition sauce and would re order that :) I eat quite a lot but I’m sure some people would consider the full rack a bit much and go for a half :!

Food was delicious. I had the pulled pork sandwich and a side of creamed spinach; both were excellent. Also, I don’t know why more restrooms don’t have bifold stall doors – such an excellent idea for small spaces. That’s a small detail, I know, but I was impressed. Friendly service too. Overall, restaurant was a hit!
Be the first to ReplyA chicago classic
This place is Chicago. It is no frills just plain and simple, its just a place to drink an old style and eat some ribs. You cannot go wrong
Be the first to ReplyIt was good, but.....
The food (specifically the ribs) were fall off the bone tender as described. The ambience was exactly what you'll have read in other reviews. It's literally a neighborhood restaurant and tavern that is packed to the gills to accommodate the constant stream of traffic. Service was efficient and friendly. However, if you're asked if you want to sit outside, do all you can to avoid the table for two immediately outside the side door. There's an awful lot of traffic, but what's worse, is that the dirty dishes trolley is right there as well. Our entire dinner was marred with the busy boy crashing plates while bent over with his bum practically touching our table. We could've stood not to see and hear that during the meal. It really does ruin the experience.

Twin Anchors is a traditional Chicago restaurant with delicious food at reasonable prices. If you visit you have to get the rib and chicken combo. Amazing!
Be the first to Replyone of my best meals ever
Twin Anchors doesn't need another 5 star review but I'm going to give it anyway. GREAT location (FREE parking in the neighborhood which is also full of adorable houses), atmosphere feels old timey, lots of nostalgic Frank Sinatra and brat pack memorabilia on the walls. Our server was amazing! somebody who was proud of her work and proud of her restaurant. the food? seriously delicious. We had the Ribs, chicken wings and bbq pork sliders. what is the deal with their ranch sauce? they put some kind of cheese in it and it is the best ranch sauce we have ever eaten. we called it magic sauce. I was literally licking the bowl shamelessly. it was so good. I tried to find the recipe online but it is apparently a secret. You MUST make time to eat here when you go to Chicago!!
Be the first to ReplyFull. Zesty. Fries. Three words to Nirvana.
Just checking in since last review. Still our #1 casual go-to in Chicago. Have eaten here several times since...whenever we can. Actually drive down from northern burbs to either dine here or just pick up and go home. Clear friend and family favorite. The take-out travels well--and comes with all the fixings you love from the restaurant.
If you are traveling to Chicago--eat here. No reservations, just show up, put your name in and grab a drink. Enjoy the history and ambiance of this true Chicago institution.
True story: during COVID pandemic, we picked up and brought it up north to an outdoor beer garden where we could bring in food. Bartender from a good 15 feet away calls out---"Oh, man, is that Twin Anchors? I love that smell!" Mind you, we were 40 minutes away....distinctive. Stop reading, just go.
Absolutely wonderful!
I’ve been wanting to go here since seeing RETURN TO ME!
This place is a hidden gem. Located on a corner is a great neighborhood. It’s a place you know the locals go to.
The food was fantastic! Our server was amazing! The atmosphere was cinematic!
This is definitely a place I would go back to again and again.
Rude Owner
The Owner Paul was very rude the last time we dined there and made us feel unwelcomed. We went to Twin Anchors weekly during the height of the pandemic to help keep them in business. We have always had great service at Twin Anchors, Gina, Mary Kay, Surass, and all the other servers have always been cordial and made us feel welcome. I have recommended many people here and will cease if this is the way Twin Anchors chooses to treat clients. It a shame, the ribs are so good.
Be the first to ReplyGreat ribs and lovely people make this back to basics place really special.
What a find! Totally unpretentious, back to basics place, with the rack of ribs just as good as led to believe by previous reviews. So good that we are picking up some more frozen ones tomorrow to take home with us. Good beer and truly lovely staff.
Be the first to ReplyVery average ribs
I used to come here back in the 90's so I thought it would be fun to check it out again with my husband and son. The 2021 experience just doesn't measure up. We got there very early; around 5:00. My husband and I both ordered the ribs and our son got fish and fries. I will say that the fish and fries were excellent. Our ribs, on the other hand, were barely warm and had no sauce on them (the sauce was served on the side.) Yes, the ribs meat fell off the bone but they almost seemed like they were reheated and had very little flavor. I can think of a dozen other places that have better ribs.
The sides were fine. I liked the creamed spinach but that too was barely warm. The service was pretty good.
The best part of this "joint" is the long bar. If you're in the area and feel like stopping for a burger or fish, it's fine but don't go out of your way to try the ribs.
Get a taste of what Chicago ribs are all about
According to its website, Twin Anchors has hosted Frank Sinatra and countless other celebrities and has been featured in both Return to Me and The Dark Knight.
The baby back ribs are Chicago-style, meaning it’s not even technically considered barbecue. The ribs are slow-cooked rather than smoked, so the sweet and sloppy meat droop lifelessly in the classic Chicago fall-off-the-bone fashion. And, oh yes, I love the “zesty” (really tangy) sauce which elevates these bone shiners to finger lickin’ good.
Charmingly dingy and as neighborhoodsy as can be, the space is small and it’s a no-booking restaurant, so you might have to queue. I am not sweet-natured. I’m getting old. I might be dead soon. The food really has to be worth it. Happily, at Twin Anchors, it is.
If I lived in Chicago, I’d have a hard time staying away for too long. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…
Super Find
Went late on a Wednesday night after arriving in Chicago. One of the guys in our group was given the recommendation by a friend. His friend was right. Most of us went for the Baby Back Ribs they were so damn good!! Think someone had Fish and Chips which they said were excellent. Beers were ice cold. From the outside you'd think Dive Bar but don't be fooled. Excellent food, a great waitress and great vibe. Trust me try this plave if you're in Chicago, you won't be disappointed. Highly Recommend
Be the first to ReplyGreat BBQ
That Prohibition and Zesty Sauce bought life to the BBQ. I bought a case and took it back to DFW. I recommend this spot if you in the Chi.

We will definitely go back!
