The food was wonderful.
The service was exceptional. But the prices were astronomical. This was the most expensive meal I've ever had but more than double... A little over 500 including tip for 10 course tasting for 2, 3 cocktails total and 1 dessert.

Uchiko is alwayS the best, and server Ivy is an absolute angel! We came in after a particularly tough evening, and Ivy took such amazing care of us. She turned around our entire evening and put a smile on our face. Alongside an amazing meal, the service is what keeps us coming back here. Thanks Uchiko for always being top notch.

This is one of the places where we come to celebrate special occasions, so of course we had to mark our seventh year anniversary here, and it was as wonderful as always. We had the privilege of sitting at the sushi bar so that we were able to enjoy watching our chef Mitchell create our meals. We were seated next to two employees who were experimenting with the new dishes in order to be able to explain them to future guests as well as some newcomers and everyone was clearly enjoying their evening. As always, the dishes are unique and delicious, and the staff is always happy, professional, knowledgeable and truly dedicated to their craft and customers. Thanks again to everyone for your hospitality and welcoming environment. We want to thank Michael and Tammy for their attentive customer service which made the experience as enjoyable as always. We're grateful to everyone and can't wait for our next visit and be in the company of people who enjoy this wonderful restaurant and everything that comes with it.
We came for happy hour on a Saturday.
We made a reservation online and arrived A few minutes before 4, and were told we'd be seated at 4. We decided to go with 7 course omakase and ordered some other things on the side. I would say the omakase was not worth it. Most of the items were okay, but the steak frites definitely knocked off a star in this review. It was burnt, chewy and dry. The sauce that it came with was awful and the veggies were bitter. The whole dish was bitter. The highlight of the omakase was the dessert (some kind of lychee sorbet). Our favorite night of was the toro--it was the opposite of the steak frites. So much flavor, so moist and tasty. Overall, restaurant is good but you get very, very little portions for the price. Not the best sushi I've ever had for the price either. It was an experience, but probably wouldn't come back.

By luck a woman who sat next to me on my flight to Austin recommended this place as a must try. She said it's the best sushi place in town, and they have great service. And my best chance of getting in would be happy hour. Well, she was right on all accounts. Service, food and ambiance, I would rank them in that order. We got two seats at the (wine) bar. The bartender/server could not be more helpful and friendly. She was on first name bases with a number of the patrons there. She gave us recommendations then some free sample appetizers to try on the happy hour menu, which had many options. My favorite was bluefin mame. It was tapas discounted, unbelievable how everything was so delicious. I would go back there just because of their outstanding service, but the food was amazing as well. Atmosphere was lively without being too loud. Really enjoyed our meal there. Will be visiting again, hopefully soon.

This is an experience with food that was wonderful to participate in. The servers are like well oiled machines! In a great way! Each have their own tables yet if they see one person talking to a customer the nearest person will offer to take the empty plates from that person. The atmosphere is chic and modern. This place is family style and your server will guide you through it if you need assistance. The servings are good and shareable. Everything was too notch. You know it has to be good when you don't even use soy sauce. Or even miss it! You have to be open to the presentation and the staff are very cognizant of any allergies as well. From start to finish it was a delight to taste what they had to offer. And happy hour menu didn't hurt either!

I had sushi with my ex-partner here about four years ago, we sat at the bar, but the sushi was awesome and the bartender was excellent. This time I made a reservation for my friend and me. From the time we sat down until we left, we were constantly engaging the staff unvoluntarily. The waitstaff interrupted us every five minutes during our only hour here, which was astonishingly obnoxious. I couldn't finish a story or even a thought before getting interrupted. I joked this place was "Biden inducing" (cause we couldn't complete sentences without interruption). We had planned to have dinner but getting rushed and the bad, rubbery shrimp appetizer led us to leave and go elsewhere. Yes, this place is trendy, and yes, the ambience is very nice (as is the music selection, which is softly played and not booming). But the arrogance (front bartender excepted) coupled with the absolute impossibility of having a conversation makes this place a no-go anymo. There are too many excellent options in Austin to put up with this "business model." For much less money, you can have the excellent service and un-stuffy attitude of Bartlett's or Salty Sow, for example.

First time. Sat at the bar and were surprised, delighted and thoroughly entertained by Ivy. Awesome sushi and creative seafood dishes with a coup de gras of king toro wagu beef followed by dessert of milk and cereal. Well played

The freshness and quality of the fish was beautiful, and the seasonings for the sushi were impeccable. The other dishes were outstanding as well-- interesting, novel, and exquisitely balanced. The evening was made particularly special by our waiter, Jeremy. He has an incredible ability to listen to your taste preferences and make recommendations. He was quick to suggest ways to cope with one person's dietary restrictions. Warm and personable but never intrusive service. This is an outstanding restaurant at every level. We kept thinking about what type of management skills, team work, and staff expertise it would take to make this happen. It all culminated in a terrific meal and experience.
I freaking LOVE this place.
Its been over 15yrs that I've come here during many ACL's and now that we live in Hill Country we make special trips down from Dripping Springs to come eat here. Do your belly a favor and book resos. Service is always friendly. The vibe is a mix of all ages who seem to celebrate great food, Company and good service. If I had to have my last meal on earth it would be here.. the hamachi chili like 10 orders. The balance of sweet, heat, fatty, bitter, salt collides in best possible way... its the best dish I've had at any Japanese restaurant besides my dad catching fresh ahi on his boat in Kona Hawaii or prized toro nigri at Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills. We stumbled on the happy hour here and if we can get our act together we hit this up when we can and eat our faces off. The last trip we hit up Uchiko we had an awesome sushi chef that overheard us taking about the tiger cry roll. We kept seeing it being made.. she said let me make it for you.. I felt like I was committing sushi sin eating a "cooked" Beef roll.... I was gonna loose my asian card on this one Alas... tigers cry was AMAZING! I loved it. Is it better than the hamachi chili.. um no hello Im still Japanese.. but its now on our repeats list for order when we come back. We always leave room for the awesome milk and cereal dessert and then roll to our car wishing we wore stretchy pants and that our couch was only 10min vs 60min drive home. A must visit if you are wanting excellent sushi and Japanese food that rivals some of the best sushi houses in LA, Hawaii, NY or Vegas. Sorry I will take Pix next time.. I got too excited...once that sake and hamachi hit my taste buds it was over no tech just eating.

This was one of my favorite dining experiences.
The atmosphere is great and the dishes are incredible. It was my father and I's first time there and our waiter gave us an excellent guide through the menu. Each item was some of the best sushi I've ever had and the desert was incredible. They allow their chefs to create their own unique dish and have the head chefs pick the best ones to put on the weekly menu which is pretty cool. Our waiter, Nate was awesome. Must try if you're in Austin!

I made a reservation at 6:15 and didn't get sat until 6:50. If you make a reservation might as well walk in because you just have to HOPE the table they assigned you is up in time. They don't block off tables for your reservation so who cares.

I came with my girlfriend to celebrate her birthday, We heard so many good things about this place , our experience was slightly different from what everybody describe. We pre-reserved. Two seats on the bar, lead us to end of the bar. We felt like nobody's paying attention to us, for all of the evening we needed to fight on the bender attention. The food was tasty, but the service was lack in overall we probably not gonna come back. Definitely not gonna sit on the bar again.

Thanks once again to the entire team for making sure that every diner had an incomparable time, and our Valentine's Day dinner was exactly that. We were lucky enough to score seats at the sushi bar a month earlier so that the could watch the team perform. The food is always fresh, creative and delicious. Sitting at the bar always means that we can interact with the highly skilled and talented chefs and meet new people, and Sam and Thomas were total superstars for putting up with me yet also chatting with us. Special kudos to our sushi chef Elliot and our server Jeremy who took care of us and treated us like family members which is just one of many reasons why we come here for special occasions.

I've been to Uchiko twice now, once when it was crowded and
I've been to Uchiko twice now, once when it was crowded and once when it was not, and I feel like I can review it after these two experiences. Our waiter on the first outing was Max, and he was fantastic; our waiter for the second was Rob, who was also marvelous. We weren't a particularly large group (party of five for one dinner and party of four for the other) and our service was impeccable. The trick with ordering at Uchiko is to order a lot, and each time your waiter comes back, order more, so that you're constantly getting new plates and expos are whisking away the used ones. Everything is good! Imaginative, complementary (one thing paired with another, so tasty!). The only downside to this place is that it is so darn expensive. I've eaten at a lot of pricey venues but Uchiko is the most I've dropped on a meal. It's strictly an "eat here once a year" type of place for us since we can't frequently drop hundreds of dollars on a single meal.

Uchiko 1/4/2024 Review: โ Positive Blip in the pendulum of lifeโฆโ Life clicks along with some folks, perhaps most folks, usually revolving around a sometimes work and play pendulum for a period of time that is then accentuated, occasionally, with personally important highpoints โ in our case typically earmarked by family visits โ โclose familyโ not living close to us, dropping in and brightening the familial subsistence lights. We have been fortunate recently to have celebrated multiple โhighpointsโ. Our triplet children and their families have โhigh-pointedโ our lives with Christmas visits and we have, in turn, tried to accentuate these occasions with some โspecialโ moments. How ? Answer โ the โ4Fsโ: โFun, Food, Family, and Forget the price ! (+/-) A few places fit the bill for such โreducedโ inhibitions in Austin TX. Who ? Where? Uchiko. Uchiko has proven to be a โfits the billโ establishment over, and over, and over again. No doubts, no reservations, no exceptions. Never, ever, ceases to satisfy, uplift, enlighten, and truly fulfill our greatest gustatory aspirations. How ? Well, heck, the first point/multiple points have to revolve around outstanding performance โ service (Holly this time), creation, follow through, mind-blowing flavors/freshness, out-of-the-box thinking variety (important โ must be a managerial headache, btw), expertise โ and constancy โ repeatable quality, on and on, but always to our knowledge absolutely and faithfully presented. A known quantity. A known high end quality. You make a decision to come here, and you know that the results will be outstanding and over the top satisfying. A daughterโs comments: โI would say.... what Uchiko does best is the art of curation, there is letting nature shine and carefully adding elements that buttress what is presented. The art of redaction - in this event, what could be added to the final product for artistic interest, whether by the chef or the consumer - in this space is what is critical for the success of the dish. I found this very evident in the nigiri - the delicate shaved lime on the fluke, the finely diced ginger on the Tanzanian trout.... There is only as much to compliment the dish as is necessary, so as to not detract from the beautiful essence of what makes Uchiko remarkable.โ Once again, satisfaction verified. (16-18 times over 10-12 years ?) No subsidence. No reduced quality. No subtle sliding of customer service. Just over the top pride and love of commitment in the trade. Thanks Uchiko staff. Uchiko Omakase
This place is next-level. For sure in the top 3 restaurants Iโve ever been to. I did the 8 course tasting menu. Every single course was delicious; there were no misses. But there were some superstars. The bluefin toro was melt-in-your-mouth soft, buttery and very flavorful. The hama chili is one of the best thing Iโve ever eaten. The fried pumpkin was outstanding. And the real surprise of the night was the beef tallow cookie ice cream sandwich, topped with candied jalapeรฑos. It doesnโt make any sense that that was so good, but it was. It was mildly sweet and noncloying as desserts can sometimes be. The service was spectacular. I sat at the wine bar and the bartenders there were extremely upbeat and really made you feel like you were talking to a friend. This is a next-level restaurant, perfect for a special occasion.

The best meal and service we have ever had. The food was out of this world, everything seemed to melt in your mouth. Gabs was our server and she kicked ass! We left our dinner selections up to her and she did not disappoint. Every dish that was dropped off was thoroughly explained, the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and attentive, definitely all working as a team. We wish we lived here so we could be regulars. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone with tastebuds.

Another 5-star experience at Uchiko this week! Off the top, complimentary valet parking is awesome, hat tip to the guys out there working in 90+ degree heat. Easy drop off, easy pick up after dinner! Wait staff... amazing... Tyler is "da man" in the front of the house, "extended" happy hours prices a bit because the kitchen was slow. All service was great, attentive but not overbearing. Perfect 5-star! Don't hire more wait staff, clone Tyler! PS Hint to sushi lovers on a budget, hit Uchiko for sushi happy hour... stick to that menu, and you walk out totally satisfied, great sushi, at a fraction of the cost! When will other sushi bars figure that one out? If they don't, make Uchiko that "once a month stop"...!!! We started with soup, asked for miso soup, no longer available, so we had the new mushroom broth soup, several types of tiny mushrooms and tofu, delicious. In my opinion, a more "palate crazy" event than the miso, very, very good! Followed up with bluefin akami and bincho, both delicious, perfectly prepared, served at the perfect temperature, nothing else needed ... eat and enjoy! So much for the happy hour menu! We followed that with orders of hama chili, wonderful presentation and tasted out of this world! Next followed orders of sake toro nigiri and shime saba. Great presentation, fantastically fresh, an oh so wonderful! We then tried the bluefin and soft shell makis (sushi rolls). Both were amazing blends of flavors and textures, dipping sauces on the side that brought out the deepest and most sublime flavors of the rolls. We wrapped up with guykan style uni, and one at the table ordered the banana cake dessert, all were fantastic. A perfect ending to a perfect meal! Again!!!
Supreme Stop for Special Spouse Celebratory Supper (โฆ3 times fast - haha)
Uchiko staff went above and beyond to help us celebrate a milestone, from authoring a mind-blowing omakase composite of menu items, to accomplished food prep follow through, to special pre-proffered theme touches executed not just to request, but above and beyond even somewhat elevated expectations. So beautifully done, such happy recipients, such a feeling of rewarded trust. We made the right choice. This IS the place when that special place is needed. We are completely, wide-eyed, satiated. As mentioned to the sushi chef Mitchell (btw โ fun to see someone having fun in their job) near the end of the Omakase courses - we know there are so many other tastes to be had, but we feel we've experienced it all and are extremely happy with the list of items you've put together. You hate to stop, but practicalities impose. So good. (Great actually) Well done all ! (Mitchell, Lauren, DJ, Alli, unknown multitudes behind the scenes) Then, the send-off...can't divulge, I assume, as per conventional wisdom, everybody would expect it. But, suffice it to say that extra thought, love, and care was demonstrated when it could of just as easy been skipped and none would have been the wiser. Above and beyond treatment of customers. Always. Many thanks, "until better paid", as the saying goes. Mission over-accomplished ? Never. Haha. Do yourself a favor, moreover, do your significant other a favor - indulge, here. Just leave it to them. What we were privileged to sample tonight: 1. Black magic oyster โ half-shell w/strawberry chip, chutney (tasty) 2. Toro nuta โ bluefin tuna, blueberry, pistachio, lemon dashi (very nice) 3. Kabocha tempura โ pumpkin, jalapeno, shishito aioli (yes, old fav) 4. โ44โ nigiri โ (custom request) sea bream, red snapper, salmon, bluefin (excellent variety) 5. King crab โ corn, uni, kimchi (yumm) 6. Spicy crunchy tuna โ big eye tuna, shallot, tobanjan aioli (textural change up) 7. Hotate โ scallop, spicy aioli, avocado (variety balance) 8. Japanese sweet potato โ brown butter, nori vinaigrette, crรจme fraiche (new to us, very good) 9. Dry aged steak โ wagyu, charred snow peas leaves (new item - loved) 10. Toyosu selections โ Bluefin akami, chutoro, otoro (loin, med fat, fatty) (great to compare) 11. Kinoko usuzukuri โ trumpet mushroom, shallot, shiro zu (nice change) 12. Hearth roasted lobster โ tom kha, maitake, umeboshi butter (new one) (omg) 13. Seasonal sundae โ sorbet, banana, caramel sauce 14. Blueberry okashi โ panna cotta, habanero, white chocolate crunch (both good together) Cheers all.
Uchiko omakase โ fluid composition 5/25/2023
Uchiko's omakase struck me as a multi-dimensional (3-4D ?) composition of dynamic characteristics that you think you've nailed down to a certain palette configuration/assortment only to have it morph and yank the receptor rug right out from under your feet. The sushimi is the mortar of this composition at the center, mild, flavorful, textural, soft and fresh, while certain items like the Hama Chili, the Foie Gras Gunkan, the Grilled Oysters, the Gyutoro, the Sprouts, among others, are the spikes in this composition that explode out from the theoretical swirling fluid center. The Foie Gras Gunkan, for example, you think you've grasped that livery pate' flavor in the beginning and it morphs multiple times, kind of like rolling thunder with highs and lows and echoing crescendos slowly tapering off into stillness, leaving a memory of multiple tasteful expressions from that single bite. Now the Hama Chili , I just dare you to not want to pick up the bowl at the end and drink that sauce. The Grilled Oyster creation, I don't believe I've ever tasted anything quite like that in the way of a mollusk presentation before, so many bright flavor combinations balancing the complimentary mild flesh - a lot going on there. Gyutoro, well, savory on steroids. Sakuro Masu and Watermelon actually pushed the envelope as overall prime spot contenders. Did the sake help this visual/sensoral carnival ride ? I don't believe it mattered - 90% sure, but certainly didn't detract ! The paint's not dry on this one yet, and that's the way I want to keep it. Kudos Hayden, Lauren, Alli, and all the creative staff. Success !
Life-ring in a sea of gastro mediocrity...
52 days without, how did we do it ? Adrift without the basic necessities - takara nigori, gyutoro, hama chili, and bluefin otoro aburi, ... Such a mood lifter to dig into these outstanding offerings once again ! Taste buds are dancing ! Uchiko knocks it out of the park, consistently. From a warm greeting from Alli the manager to Mitchel fixing us up royally at the sushi bar. Great job. Lauren kept the sake flowing. Hayden chimed in with the banana cake suggestion, retroactively (a special tip from the last trip). Wow ! Some things, though experienced before, just stand out over and over again. A must have. (now that we know about it !) Oh, and sorry about the pict - couldn't wait to dig in. Haha. Attached are the items we went for this trip - circled on the menu. (we starred or double starred our favorites) If not visible โ the stars were hama chili, gyutoro, bluefin otoro, and bluefin otoro aburi. The KO salad, sprouts, and hana are always good as well. All items were outstanding, but certain items really stood out. Downside โ not enough room to try all the things we wanted. Kudos to the gang - their star shone brightly tonight once again ! Thanks to all for fixing us up ! Cheers ! Could sure use a Vietnamese coffee right about now though... Love the atmosphere โ frenetic crowd, tasteful decor, palate pleasing choices, and super service ! Always worth it. I wonder if that banana cake is available to take out... (more !) (PS โ again - the KO salad, sprouts, and hana dishes are absolute starter mainstays for us - nobody beats these veggie/salad selections !)

Several dishes were so soft and buttery, they seriously melted in your mouth. The flavor profile of each dish was so unique and delicious. I cannot wait to go back again!

I hope you brought your wallet because this restaurant isn't messing around when it comes to prices.But let's be real here, if you're going to drop some serious cash on a meal, you might as well do it right. And this restaurant definitely knows how to do it right. From the moment you step through the door, you're greeted with a level of hospitality that will make you feel like royalty (or at least a high-roller).And the food? Oh, the food. It's not just delicious, it's a work of art. Every dish is crafted with such care and attention to detail that you almost feel guilty for ruining it by taking a bite. But don't worry, your taste buds will thank you.Of course, all of this luxury comes with a price tag that might make you wince, but hey, you only live once, right? And if you're going to indulge, you might as well do it in style.So, if you're looking for a restaurant where you can splurge and feel like a VIP, this is definitely the place for you. Just be prepared to shell out some serious dough. But hey, who needs money when you have an empty stomach and a craving for some fancy Japanese cuisine?

I tend to avoid high end or over hyped venues, but in this case .. Uchiko is the real deal. Food, service, ambiance, all great. Crowded? Yes! Must make a reservation. Expensive? Surprisingly not crazy. Order from the happy hour -- lots of options. Regular menu has larger portions. I love ordering a few dishes at a time...and keep them coming. Favorite was anything with salmon and tuna...creamy bites of clouds! But everything was perfection. Try something unusual and you won't be disappointed.

Beautiful interior good noise level. The server suggested really good dishes that did not disappoint. All the entrรฉes and sushi were different. Couldn't find the same level of quality and presentation anywhere else. Will always come back.
A symphony of food to remember
I lack the appropriate words to express how exceptional my visit to Uchiko was. Our server was Ivy and when I say that she was phenomenal that is an understatement. We left our meal in her hands and did the chefs tasting. She asked several questions and then the food started to arrive!!! OMG! The textures, flavor melds and variety were excellent. It was amazing to taste the flavors unveil themselves and build. As silly as it sounds I think of Ratatouille when he is describing food flavors with colors, sounds and then the symphony it makes on your tongue. This was a culinary experience from Ivy to the orchestra of food that built the lovel sound of our symphony.
Fat Tuesday ultra-destination
Great seating at the sushi bar, excellent suggestions from Larson (sp?) the sushi chef, prompt beverage service, presentation and flavor profiles in the dishes - other worldly. Maybe 20 or more seatings over the last 10 years and have never left unsatisfied or under-impressed with their expertise. Glued on smiles when we left this time too. A great mood lifter, and or venue to suit a celebration. Our โFat Tuesdayโ choices โ sprouts (always great), bluefin tartare (yes, bam !), avocado nigiri, sake maki, ebi (nice change of pace), gyotoro nigiri (wow !!), hama chili (nice flavor combinations), ko salad (amazing โ our fav salad anywhere), hana curry (surprisingly diverse combo), soft shell maki, and banana cake โ not your grandmotherโs banana bread/cake - what a finish ! โ suggested by the chefs - must try it if you havenโt !, and maybe a little sakeโฆharhar. A great memory to sustain us through Lenten fasting !! (โฆbut man, when itโs over, Iโm headin back !)
Donโt go
This place used to be the best Japan restaurant in Austin. Not anymore. Spent $700 for 3 persons, but overall experience was terrible. Great 10 course set menu, but there is just not enough food. We ordered from the menu several dishes and they were all terrible. Maybe we just werenโt lucky, I donโt know. So many good reviews.. But everything good comes to an end I guess. And this place turned into some overpriced fast food or something. Food was terrible really, except for set menu which was good. All in all, should consider other places to go spend my money and suggest you do the same guys.

That's where the community-driven bid process comes in.
Peter can place a bid on AppointmentTrader, which serves as a reward for any community member who chooses to work on securing the reservation. AT then notifies experienced users who may be able to help.
Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* ImmortalStep65, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* ImmortalStep65 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to ImmortalStep65 for any questions Peter may have as ImmortalStep65 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* ImmortalStep65 now uses their connections at Uchiko Austin to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If ImmortalStep65 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, ImmortalStep65 receives the $200 reward which is credited to ImmortalStep65's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Uchiko Austin!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
