Disgrace
I bought a voucher for my elderly parents to have afternoon tea there.
I booked online via their own website and supplied the code.
They failed and the company who sold the voucher very well known company to notify me they are closed.
There were no instruction on the reservation page about being closed and they excepted the reservation.
Two elderly people made their way there one with health conditions and were told at the door they were closed.
The staff member called up and told someone that theyโve just sent another couple away.
Very bad communication by them and the selling site.
I am disgusted by this.
Youโd think being a self proclaimed prestige venue theyโd be on top of every cancellation and notify all persons that booked they they were closed.
What a shambles.
Thankfully the selling site refunded my money.
Great place to visit
We went at the begining of March 2020 and had a lovely day out, the staff were polite and very good, we had afternoon tea which consisted of a glass of champagne on arrival, then they came with our sandwiches and cakes and tea or coffee, which was all very nice. No one rushed us to go, we spent about an hour or so over our food and enjoyed the fantastic views over London. When we left we were told there was a service charge of ยฃ4.00 which we would have left as a tip anyway. All in all a great day out.

Be the first to ReplyFab afternoon
We bought a discount ticket from a voucher site, it was a lovely way to spend an afternoon, food was just a few nibbles and a glass of Champagne the views over London were spectacular and no one was in a hurry to move us on.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing staff and manager
I booked afternoon tea through a discount company and was looking forward to a lovely afternoon tea with a friend as I had been before a few years ago.
The afternoon started well although I didnt rate the selection of sandwiches and cakes. I've definitely had better.
We requested a glass of wine each after our champagne and some water. We had to ask three times for the water.
When we were ready for tea i asked what teas they had and the manager retorted most of them. I then asked for rooibos and he said they had red Bush but seemed unaware they were the same. Surely it would have been easier to show me a menu of hot drinks served?
When we were ready to leave I asked for the bill three times. The afternoon tea was already paid for but we were charged a hefty service charge. We had to ask twice for the card machine, paid the waitress and then left. On our way to the lifts the manager ran out and asked if we had paid. I didn't see him do this to anyone else so can only assume he made a judgement about us from our appearance.
We were treated appallingly and will not return.
Bad cocktails. bad food
Poorly made cocktails that tasted cheap and we ordered the cheese board but it was served really cold, straight from the fridge. You don't need to be a Michelin star chef to know that cheese should be served at room temperature, especially for what we paid.

The views are great, but that was it in terms of the pleasure of the experience. It was cold, the muzak was too loud and awful and - albeit there are renovations happening - the route to get to it was frankly depressing. I kept thinking i was going into a cleaner's cupboard rather than a smart bar. A one-cubicle utilitarian ladies loo. Average drinks - for ยฃ26 for just one kir royale and one soft drink, I would have expected a great deal more.
Be the first to ReplyExpensive but amazing views
Having been to The Shard where you have to queue to get in and the service can be iffy, we decided to give this place a try. First off the entrance to the place is dark and not very welcoming. But once you get there it is a different matter. We were told when we entered that there was a ยฃ15 per person minimum charge - no mention of this on the website! We were shown to our place and the views are spectacular. As we were the first people there we were able to move around and take photos whereever we wanted.
We bought a champagne cocktail each and with the service charge it cost around ยฃ16.50 each. The cocktails were lovely and the service was OK. Staff were OK.
I would go again, for a special occassion as the venue and the views are well worth it. Shame it is so expensive because you do feel that it is over priced. We had no food so can't comment on food.
So my review overall is really good, its just too pricey for what you get to be 5***
Pleasantly Surprised
We were a bit apprehensive after reading some of the negative reviews but we found the whole experience on our Groupon Gift for afternoon tea at Vertigo 42 a very pleasant experience a tasty tea and a nice glass of bubbly. The staff were very pleasant and attentive and of course the views are amazing. My husband enjoyed his birthday.
Be the first to ReplyNice Experience
A friend living in London booked this experience through Groupon for us when we were coming to visit London. The experience itself is great as the views are amazing, especially late evening when we were there, also as it was a Monday it was not too busy. The cocktails were nice and the sharing platter was lovely, there was a good variety. The service was good, the young lady serving us was helpful and the food/drinks arrived in a timely fashion. The decor in the area could do with some updating as some of it was a bit worn and the entrance hallway could do with being jazzed up as the plain grey walls are a bit drab. At ยฃ72 it was still a bit pricey for what essentially cheese and crackers and to make it worse we were "politely" reminded that there was an ยฃ8 discretionary service charge. The service charge was a bit much I felt for something that is already expensive
