I can not say enough about how family friendly the Aulani is. Little bit of Disney but not enough to make you puke. We had a wonderful time. Plenty of activities, some that are included with your stay and even more that are not. Expect to spend around 150+ for every meal with a family of 5. (Kids are 9 and under here) Would recommend finding a store near by to purchase snacks and drinks. For the morning and afternoon. Leave your reusable cups( Stanley/yeti) at home as you will be forced to buy a new one. Spend thousands on a trip and you’ll be paying $6 extra for every cup of coffee. 🤦 ♂️. If you want seats at the pool and beach you will need to be up by 7:30 and ready to “save” ward off other guests. Once your territory is claimed you will be ready for the day.

Aloha! Disney magic Hawaiian style! Three words. It was fantastic! My husband and I took a 28th anniversary trip to the islands. Our very last night, we decided to splurge and do one night at Aulani to see what it was like. So worth it! We checked in early about 12:00 and our room was ready so that was awesome! Our room was immaculately clean and thoughtfully decorated Disney style. We had a partial ocean view and a beautiful, private lanai. Beds are SO comfy. This is true of the Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian Hotels in Anaheim too. Best night of sleep we had our whole trip. AC worked great. Bathroom is large and had a separate toilet area. Tub is huge! Plugs are plentiful and USB chargers. Big TV with casting available from any device. WiFi is included. We were going to rent a car but decided not too last minute. We did however ask about EV charges as we’re going to be renting an electric car. They had several plug ins free of charge. The beach was beautiful and so calm for kids and families alike. Plenty of chairs available. The pool areas look so fun and they were bustling with kids and families. We found a quiet pool off on the side which wasn’t busy at all and very shady. Lifeguards are at each pool and are very attentive. There are water refill stations so bring water bottles. Prices are typical for a resort and Disney. A kids meal is about $3 more than CA in the states. A pizza at Ulu’s is $20 but could easily feed 4 kids or 2-3 adults. We also were able to do a late check out the following day - which is just 1:00 hour later- and then we stored our luggage, and went to the spa. The spa was AMAZING! if you love spas and being pampered, Disney does a great job! You’ll love it! You also have an 60 min prior to your appointment to enjoy the spa amenities too. Everyone was so kind and professional. After our time at the spa, we took advantage of the Lounge which is a room you can reserve a time to shower and get ready for those taking a late flight like us. The lounge had just 2 showers, 2 bathrooms, and 2 sinks in the mens and womens locker rooms. There are also couches and tables to hang out while you wait for family to finish. There were probably about 10 people in the womens locker room when I was there so a bit crowded. I had to wait for a turn with the showers. The teens took a while! Plan on taking a quick shower, and then changing in the bathroom stall and getting out of there. It was crazy! But grateful they had the option. We ate a Roy’s and Monkeypod nearby for dinners. The staff is happy to take you in the golf cart too! Overall, we loved it! One of the best resorts we’ve ever been too! Crowded but Disney does crowds the best! If you want a quiet resort, this may not be it. The Four Seasons next door shares and beach with Aulani and it looked very chill. Kids and families are plentiful at Disney.

Loved. Our stay at Aulani. It was our first time here and it did not disappoint. We have expedited many Disney properties and this was true to the Disney hospitality feel but was also very respectful to the Hawaiian culture. Great for families but even if you are adults with no children the adult pools, and spa are a must. You are also close to many activités of site via a car. Would recommend!
Be the first to ReplyNot enough things for adults to do at the resort.
This was our 5th trip here. We just wanted to relax at the pool. We know the lazy river and slides is crowded with families and we do enjoy them. However we wanted a quiet place to read and enjoy pool time without kids screaming and splashing. We really wish they would bring back the adults only pool and chairs at Wailana. The adult only whirlpool is always crowded and you cannot swim in it. Plus we did see children in it and someone had to get a cast member to remove them. We have stayed at Turtle Bay Resort and other resorts on other Hawaiian islands and have enjoyed adult only pools areas. We also wish the two sit down restaurants would have a la carte menus. We enjoy the prix fixe menus, but it is nice to have more options. We ate next door at the Four Seasons on this trip and enjoyed more choices. We booked an ocean view studio. Room was comfortable and clean. We love the new Mālie products in the rooms. Cast members are all so friendly. We enjoy talking with them.

This hotel is an old hotel and is extremely large. It is not a luxury experience by any means. It has no room service and except for one sit down character breakfast that you need to make reservations for a month in advance. You’re eating food from to go venues. It is very expensive for families, although there’s a refrigerating, the standard rooms and a small kitchen in the suites, the on-site Store has extremely limited options of groceries. The elevator are backed up with people waiting at times for quite a long time to get to their room. Because of how extremely large the hotel is, the beach chairs are taken early in the morning. The pools are crowded. Experiences extremely expensive. We had four adults and two children before the character and it was over $$350. The next day we ordered two full breakfast plus extra bacon and for coffees and it was $100. The cost of the room would be prohibited for most families. The kids did enjoy the character breakfast, and the experience of being with family at the resort.I don’t think we’ll be coming back to this hotel because the experience price ratio did not work. It was intense underwhelming.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing wedding! ADA accomodations - NOT
Attended an amazing wedding at Aulani. Reserved rooms at least 1 year in advance. Could not obtain ADA room on first night. King bed in standard room is so high with pedestal & high (~16) mattress with box spring. No bedrailing to accomodate that high of mattress. Bathtub was so tall on on the side walls and deep that it's very difficult for fit people to get in. We requested a side chair. Was able to move to ADA room on second night. For the cost of hotel you would think you can obtain at least a necessary federal amenity, especially reserving 1 year in advance. Very disappointed for a huge resort.
Be the first to ReplyThe greatness you'd expect from Disney.
Unbelievable stay. The water park attractions were loads of fun. The food was amazing. And being able to just walk right out onto the beach was incredible. The service was top notch. There was an issue with our luau reservation but we were helped by Mitsuko (It may have been Misuko) and she got everything cleared up. Amazing service for an amazing stay.
Be the first to ReplyOur Aulani stay!
We had a wonderful 6 night stay at Aulani. The lazy river is amazing and the infinity hot tub is a must do located in the over 18 and only section. Our room was a partial ocean view room and was located on the 8th floor. We had views of both the ocean and mountains. I would recommend this resort as it was both relaxing and close to a lot of amazing sites.
Be the first to ReplyFamily friendly and GORGEOUS!
This is a beautiful resort located on the lagoon of Ko’Olina on the Island of Oahu. It definitely reflects the culture of Hawaii. Ko’Olina is a quiet area away from the bustling Waikiki traffic. The restaurants at Aulani were nice. The food was tasty and plentiful. The touch of Disney was nicely incorporated, but the Hawaiian culture was definitely magnified throughout the resort and in the offerings at the restaurants. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. It was fun to see the Disney Characters throughout the day and the Pool Parties were fun for the kids. Disney enthusiasts will enjoy the touch of Disney but it definitely is not the focus. If you are looking for a kid free/ family unfriendly resort then you should look elsewhere. This is a wonderful place for people to go with a multigenerational family because there is something for everyone. We definitely plan to return!
Be the first to ReplyOvercapacity and Stressful
We were incredibly disappointed with our recent stay at the Aulani Disney resort, which was made all the worse by the fact that we had traveled so far based on the glowing reviews. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we were expecting. The late 4pm check-in was stressful enough, but the lack of seating spaces made it even worse. The staff, who appeared to be stressed out themselves, left us feeling unwelcome and added to our already mounting frustration. Despite the high expectations we had from the reviews, we were met with overcrowded areas throughout the resort, with no comfortable place to relax and enjoy the property. We were shocked to find that by noon on a Sunday, the resort had run out of towels and remained unprepared for two hours. This was not the luxury experience we had anticipated and left us feeling very disappointed. To make matters worse, an alarm clock in our room went off at 6am, which completely shattered our sleep and that of our toddler. Overall, we were extremely let down by our stay at the Aulani Disney resort. The overwhelming and overcapacity environment made it impossible for us to enjoy any aspect of the resort, despite having traveled so far with high expectations based on reviews. We do not recommend this resort to anyone seeking a relaxing and enjoyable vacation.
Be the first to ReplyAloha Spirit at its Finest!!
I came from another hotel, and was hoping and praying we could check in early and we could!!! We arrived around noon. I'm sure it's usually based on availability. Our room was easy to find, and it's like everyone from housekeeping welcomed us as soon as we arrived. We stayed in a garden view room, which wasn't as pricey as the other rooms, but it was still nice!! We had a king bed and a couch seating area that folded open to a bed. There was a fridge, which I loved. And there was a safe in the closet, but I never figured out how it worked. I loved having a balcony. The door's a bit heavy, but when I got it open it was nice to just stand there and feel the warm breeze. You can even see part of the lagoon. We ate at several restaurants. Off the Hook was nice pool/beachside casual sit down dining. Ulu cafe was good grab and go stuff, but their hot items were really good! I had a smoked salmon quiche for breakfast once. Deeelish! On my birthday, we had reservations for Makahiki that's now a sit down 3 course pre-fixe dinner. I kinda miss when it was a buffet, but this was pretty good too. The ribeye was cooked to perfection, and the manager made a special trip to our table to make sure everything was cooked to our liking and to wish me a happy birthday. If you're having a day at the pool, you go to one of the stands to get your wristband for the day, but you do have to show your key card. Pool chairs are first come, first served. But make sure you stay active on your chair because people assume you've left already. As a childless adult, I thought there would be kids everywhere running and screaming, but it really wasn't too bad at all. There were some groups that were just adults. We also went snorkeling in their reef. It's $25 for the day or $45 for your entire stay. It's salt water. There's lots of fish, but my life vest kept deflating whenever I touched the mouthpiece. If you love swimming with fishes all day every day, then the entire stay might be worth it. But to be honest, one day just for 1-2 hours was fine for us. There are certain activities that are included, some that are a charge. Activities fill quickly, so it's best to a have a plan as soon as you can. I tried the ukulele class. But I have some basic skills, so this class is good for families who have never done this before. The class was a bit too easy for me, and I thought the teacher, Drew, even though was a good ukulele player, he was kinda full of himself. I kinda regret not trying the ultra bougie restaurant, Ama Ama. Maybe next time. I was so impressed with all the entertainment they had there. There was a great poolside story time that had one man narrating and some dancers acting out the story. It was really cool. I also enjoyed the live performers at the cocktail lounges and outside the Ama Ama restaurant. Even though there was a "room occupied" sign on the door, housekeeping still snuck in every day to remove garbage. That's ok. They're just doing their job. When it's check out time, you can just leave. I almost always have to go to the front desk to check out, so it felt weird to just leave. My ONLY Aulani gripe, we had to swipe our keycards an average of 10 times to open the door, and that is not an exaggeration. Other than that, everything was great. We left feeling happy and relaxed. Aulani does not disappoint when it comes to quality, and that Aloha spirit. One cast member said, "Welcome home" and I answered, "Someday this will be my home!"
Be the first to ReplyBucket List Item - ✔️
Our family of five from Texas and Oklahoma visited Oahu and the Big Island for Spring Break! Aulani has been a bucket list item of mine for years and it did not disappoint!!! The rooms were a little smaller than what I thought they would be. I also thought we had booked two - two double bed rooms but when we got to our rooms they each had 1 queen bed and a sleeper sofa. The rooms were super clean, nice comfortable beds and nice thick towels! We also had daily housekeeping which was a nice surprise as most hotels still do not offer daily housekeeping post-covid!! The view from our lanais was absolutely beautiful (deluxe ocean view rooms)!! I could have sat out there forever and in fact did sit out there one morning doing some Bible study while my daughter took grandsons swimming!! We fully took advantage of the many daily activities Aulani has to offer: Animation Drawing (3 times), Ukulele Lessons (2 times), Rainbow Reef Fish Feeding, Pin Trading, Maka’ika’i The Culture through Nature Tour, Maka’ika’i: The Art and Culture of Aulani Tour, The Mo’olelo Fire Pit Storytelling (2 times), and Snorkeling in the Reef!! We also completed the Menehune Scavenger Hunt! All of these activities were Amazing!! Can’t recommend enough!! I would like to give a shout out to Drew for Animation and Ukulele Lessons..he is Amazing!! We took the same classes with a different leader our 2nd day and that person was not near as good… We were all so glad we had the opportunity to meet and attend Drew’s classes! In fact, had we only had the other, I would have had to leave a negative on those particular two classes! Another shout out to Uncle Ito!! He was incredibly knowledgeable on the art and nature tours and his campfire storytelling!! I could not believe that he remembered my grandson's names at storytelling from attending one of his earlier tours! We were disappointed that the slide was down for refurbishment while we were there but still enjoyed the pool and lazy river! We also met lots of characters and loved all the photo pass opportunities! I love how the characters just roam and interact with guests!! And the beach was very nice with plenty of chairs and space!! All of the cast members were very friendly and helpful!!
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful resort, strict covid restrictions/openings
We stayed in a DVC studio, which was one of the smaller DVC studios that we have stayed in. The garden view balcony was a big plus for the early morning jet lag wake ups. While we were here, there were a lot of restrictions on what was open vs not open due to covid; Aunties Beach House was closed, the outdoor grills were closed, there were also very limited activities for kids due to Covid restrictions. Lining up to get fish feeding tickets felt like the Hunger Games. The pool is amazing, your kids probably won’t want to leave the hotel. But the pool area is also not as secure as other Disney pools, e.g. the Beach Club in Disney World. There were definitely some locals crashing sans wristbands. Also beware of the ratty looking mongoose near the pool- they will steal your food and look like they are covered in disease.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful but pricey
My wife and I are dvc members and decided to visit Aulani for the first time. We were not disappointed. We had a beach view room on the 15th floor that gave us spectacular view of the ocean and the pool area. The room was spacious and comfortable with enough storage areas for our stuff. The pool areas had enough space for families and couples to enjoy themselves without feeling crowded. The beach had more than enough beach chairs that you did not need to rush down first thing in the morning to reserve a spot. There are a number of other resorts in the area so there was choice of other restaurants to choose from for suppers. There was also a walking path that connected all the resorts and the marina where a number of people would be walking or running. Food and other items were expensive on the resort but there was a mini mall with Starbucks, mini mart and restaurants that were cheaper than the resort. (Less then 500 meters from resort) If you were there with kids, they have Disney characters galore.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Family Trip!!!
After 5 great days in Waikiki we spent 6 wonderful days at Aulani. We stayed in a Deluxe Studio DVC Room which was perfect. It had a Queen Bed, Pull-Out Queen Sofa Bed, Microwave, Toaster, Mini-Fridge, Coffee Maker, Kettle, Cutlery, Dishes, everything we needed for our entire stay. The pools, lazy river, water slides, hot tubs and beach were a hit with both the kids and the adults. Spent most of our days in the water, only taking breaks for sunscreen reapplying, lunch and character pictures. Ate sit down dinners at Off The Hook, The ‘Ōlelo Room, and quick dining at Ula Cafe, all were enjoyable meals. Kids meals were big enough that our kids (age 7 and 9) would just share a meal each night. We also did the on-site Luau which was wonderful. Food was good, show was amazing, enjoyed the unlimited adult beverages. Also loved that when the Luau was over we could head right to our room, no travel needed. We also really appreciated that we were able to stay and enjoy the resort after checking out ob check out day. Our flight wasn’t until 10pm and they held our luggage and allowed us to enjoy the pool and beach all day until we had to leave. We were also able to use the Luana Lounge to freshen up before our flight home. We just had to go down at 6am to sign up for the room as they only allow 5 families during each hour in the room. Definitely an amazing trip!!!
Be the first to ReplyWas downgraded at arrival from a room we booked 6 months out and charged double!! Total scam
We use to love this place so much we go every year !! Easy access from Honolulu and short drive to north shore !! Problem is they just don’t take care of their Disney vacation members anymore. Show up tell us we can’t have the room we booked that we spent hours on the phone that they booked for us!! Make us wait hours at welcome desk then downgrade us from ocean view to the crap view for double the points !! Won’t be back will sell our Disney membership due to this experience!! Sorry but you forgot about the people who have been here since the beginning !! You don’t downgrade us and then make us pay double points !!! Never again !! Won’t spend another dime at a Disney anything !!
Be the first to ReplyLosing some of the Disney Magic and Aloha Spirit
This was our third visit to the Aulani and it was the first time I left a little disappointed. They didn't offer the traditional lei greeting and refreshments upon arrival, which may seem small, but it really set the tone this trip...it felt a lot less welcoming than it did on past visits. The overall check-in process was very slow like at many Disney resorts, and I don't understand why Disney hasn't managed to streamline this process. The character breakfast was good, but not great. We had to wait thirty minutes past our reservation time, which with children is not fun. Usually, you take a quick character picture outside before going to your table. It happened to rain at the moment we were supposed to meet Mickey, so our photo was taken in the restaurant between a table and a counter...it seems like they could have found a better backdrop or had a better plan for this since it seemed to rain a bit everyday during our trip. They no longer offer a buffet. The fresh fruit and baked goods basket they bring to your table were small. I could have eaten two servings of the fruit on my little plate and there wasn't enough of the baked goods for everyone in my family to try everything they wanted. In the past, "Auntie" and "Uncle" would lead the kids around the breakfast restaurant in parades and invite them to play traditional Hawaiian instruments, but now they just sang and a few kids stood at their tables to dance. From our seat, we could not even see the entertainment. It definitely lost some luster for us. The Aulani offers activities and character meet ups daily. You need to download their app on your phone in order to learn the daily schedule. However, you can't sign up for these events through your app. You have to go in person to their activities room when it opens and wait in line. These lines are not short. The activities fill up. And, many of the activities are not free. We were looking forward to doing the Menehune Scavenger Trail again this trip with our children. We needed to wait in this line. Then, our device did not work. We had to wait in line again. In previous visits, the trail ended with a little token surprise in the lobby that was delivered through a cute Menehune dispenser of sorts. During this visit, our device started repeated clues. We brought it back to the activities room to see if there was an error and were told, "nope, that just means you're done." No big finish at all for such a cute scavenger hunt, it was very disappointing. When I asked what about the little token at the end, they gave my boys the little prizes, but it felt very underwhelming. The facilities, scenery, and rooms at Aulani are still beautiful. The spa is a 10++. The rooms are still immaculately cleaned. It just feels overall that they're leaning into cost-cutting measures and losing some of that Disney Service and Disney Magic.

Overall, the hotel is nice and all the staff/cast members are really friendly. However, there are a couple of things I did not like and would change: First off, the hotel does NOT offer room service. You can place a mobile order with your phone only to one restaurant and you have to walk all the way there to get your food. The hotel is HUGE and still overcrowded even during the “Low season”. There is a line to get in the elevator every single time. Since this is mostly a children’s hotel, there are young children running around wild and with little to no supervision. That was a problem for me as I don’t have children. And yes, there are adults like me who love Disney. Most hotels have complementary waters or drinks in the room. This one does not. As much as I love Disney, I don’t think I will ever stay here again. Things are way too complicated to be able to fully relax and enjoy. The only reason I will come back is to use the spa, since it is amazing!
Be the first to ReplyLazy River
2nd time coming from Boston. We are long time DVC members and as usual the Aulani was perfect. Except for one thing: the Lazy River. Too many kids swimming without tubes and being a hazard in the water. They bang into you, kick you as they swim under you and think nothing of pushing you out of their way and into the rocky sides. This is not a swimming pool - there is nothing “lazy” about floating in a tube when kids are swimming everywhere and causing mayhem. I spoke to a several of these kids and asked them to calm down and be respectful but to no avail. Parents are not around btw and the life guards ignore their behavior. Make the Lazy River Mandatory that you must be on a yellow tube and no swimming. For everyone’s safety before someone is seriously hurt. Again this was my only complaint. Food, staff and room were fantastic. Will be back in 2024!
