Basalt Honolulu Reviews from The Last Year

We went to Hawaii with the family, and this was an absolutely amazing restaurant right in the heart of Waikiki. We all had the miso glaze black cod with a mushroom medley, and it was on fire, the next day then we tried their breakfast brunch menu, and it was fantastic. If you're ever in Waikiki, I highly recommend this great restaurant.

Wonder ambiance, professional wait staff, Awesome bartenders! The food is amazing, prime rib is a must ! If you do go there, ask for Matt, he's on point with his service skills!
Came here at 11 AM on my own for brunch on a Tuesday.
There were only a handful of other diners. I've always seen the restaurant name outside, but was surprised to see it's actually attached to the Duke's store. Basalt is my cousins' favorite place to eat in the area. They rave about the happy hour. Although I didn't make it for happy hour, I think it was still a great choice for a first meal of the day. I was torn between the pork belly fried rice and the loco moco. I haven't had a loco moco blow away before, but I think this is one of the best I've had. The garlic fried rice was tasty, moist, and the flavor of the beef was high-quality. I especially liked the golden eggs on top! It came with two pieces of fruit, a pineapple and an orange, and I got toast. I also got coffee with unlimited refills, which were they were very attentive to. I felt a bit early to start drinking, but I thought why not, the mai tai looked really beautiful and it was my last day on the island. And it was as delicious as it looked! My server, Thuy, delivered exceptional service. I thought the price was great for the quality and service that I got too. I would love to come back and try another recommended item, the burger!
Love this Restaurant
Best Mai Tai in Honolulu! We found this Gem a few years ago, we were walking by and saw the Mai Tai sign, and this is our favourite spot in Waikiki for Breakfast, Happy Hour & Dinner. All staff are amazing, as well as the great chef and management. Thank you all!
I stopped by Basalt for a late breakfast.
The Loco moco was out of this world. The bacon fried rice was amazing and the mushroom gravy was absolutely perfect. I will get this again. Amazing!!!
Visiting Waikiki for the first time since 2018.
Basalt offered a sit-down dinner for our family of four on a busy Saturday night. We ordered the Prix Fixe with salad and lobster bisque followed by grilled (to perfection) ribeye steak and the Grand Marnier chocolate mousse dessert. Our son demolished most of the fried chicken plate. The portions were reasonable (not huge) but large enough for my adult daughter & I to share without feeling overly stuffed. Additionally, I ordered the "Expat" margarita. It was heavy on crushed ice (for $17) but brought together a pleasing, unusual flavor palate. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.
Terrible food and terrible servers.
The ambiance would've been lovely if not soured by the poor service. Matt was awful and Paige was rude. Jasmine was lovely, and the only reason I'd come back.
Waitress came quickly.
. got our order... got our coffee... coffee for starters was great... finally got coffee that tasted like coffee Basalt breakfast huge breakfast... and tasty Charcoal pancakes were fancy looking and good Fruit bowl We sat outside... beautiful weather... why not eat outside when you can... we are in Hawaii!!!

Best food we had in Honolulu! We went for happy hour and then dinner. Food was amazing and service was out of this world. Our server Matt was so nice, knowledgeable and attentive. So impressed by this wonderful place. I will be coming back for sure.

We tried their brunch menu on a Sunday morning and it was a lovely experience. The restaurant sit in the first floor and feels a little tucked in the back of a food hall/convenience store. It's chilled vibe helped us relax and start off the day right. The server was quite attentive and helpful but still allow us some peace to eat and catch up with our friends. We tried their lox Benedict and charcoal short stack with bacon. Our friends also tried the pork belly fried rice and prime rib hash. They are all very good and delicious. One thing we like to point out on the charcoal pancake is that although it tasted fine, the texture is quite grainy maybe from the charcoal powder. Overall a nice brunch spot in Waikiki.

I have had the best dining experience of my life here at Basalt! Our server Matt has been the sweetest and most attentive waiter, all the food is not only made to perfection, but plated beautifully and thoughtfully. For example, I never had to even stir my salad because every piece was coated in the most delicious coconut balsamic. Every single staff member that we encountered was considerate, happy and attentive. I cannot express in words how great our first experience was and we will absolutely be back!
Great food and drinks in the heart of Waikiki!
I stopped by on a Friday, while walking around and checked out the menu. I thought the prices looked very reasonable for the area so made plans to come back the next night. Fortunately the prices were the same, so I ordered the Kabayaki Pork Chop and a smoked Manhattan while I waited. The drink was very good and got a lot of attention, with a big puff of smoke filling the air when the cover was removed. I wasn't sure which wine would work best with the pork, but they have one ounce and three ounce pours available, so I tried 2 different wines with dinner. After a great dinner, which came with sides, I had another one of their special Manhattans and listened to the guitarist that was playing outside on their patio. It was a great meal, so I planned to come back the next night. On Sunday I noticed that the special price for the 3-course meal was gone from the menu, but since I wasn't really that hungry I ordered the fried chicken, which was very good and had some spicy dipping sauce on the side, along with 2 tasty sides included. I highly recommend Basalt. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the price differences between the 2 days and the bright lights. It is a very well-lit area and I didn't really understand why, since the quality of the food is on par with many steak houses, like Boa, which usually have softer lighting. I'm sure I will return, but maybe try having dinner outside of their patio.
Lovely dinner
We decided to treat ourselves to a fancier dinner but hadn't booked anywhere. After being turned away from Duke's we were warmly welcomed into Basalt. We decided against the prix fixe menu, as we usually share a starter and a dessert. We started with cocktails and pork belly buns to and tried to resist from eating the complimentary bread. The service was attentive but not over the top. For mains we got the ribeye steak and the macadamia nut crusted fish. The steak was ordered medium rare but was definitely on the well done side of medium. The servers offered to cook another steak, but we declined as it seemed wasteful. They very generously waived the cost of the steak. The fish portion was huge, I don't think I ate any of the rice as I didn't need it. The fish and the vegetables were very tasty. We managed to fit in coconut cake for dessert and we are so glad we did, it is delicious. The musician playing acoustic covers of our favourite songs made the whole experience even better. The outdoor area is next to a busy carpark/service lane, but you don't notice after a couple mai tais!
Good food
Basalt is a nice dining restaurant in Duke’s Lane Shop. We had seen an ad for a special on Thursday evening as an early bird dinner for $32 for prime rib. Considering the normal prices, it seemed like a good deal and it was. For probably the only time ever, I got it cooked exactly as i wished (I don’t want any red in mine). it came with garlic mashed potatoes, horseradish sauce and green beans. Both my husband and I took a good chunk of ours home in a to go tray because it was plentiful. My hubby also had the corn chowder and said it was delicious. On this particular evening, there was no crowd. Actually most of the seats remained empty. We chose to eat in the outdoor dining area but there was a delivery truck parked right next to the dining area with its motor running during the entire meal so that spoiled the atmosphere a bit. i would recommend this restaurant. I believe that the price was good in comparison to most local meals and the food was great; service was good too. When you are finished with dinner, go to Duke’s lane and get a dessert to take home with you as it will take a little while before you have enough room. We have had coconut cake, carrot cake, red velvet cake and filled Malasadas and they were all wonderful!
Another Outstanding Meal
We first dined here in Jan 2023, and made a repeat visit on 1/14/24. The food, which was great the previous time, was even better this time. I had the pork chop and shrimp special and my wife had a dinner portion of the crispy quinoa shrimp, and we both had the soup of the day-an amazing corn chowder. Also had the pork belly fried rice. Everything was perfectly prepared and delicious, and the prices very reasonable for Waikiki. Max was our server, and he was fantastic. A must visit..
Excellent Breakfast
Basalt turned out to be a great breakfast choice while we were staying next door at The Laylow Hotel. It was definitely a notch up from the hotel's breakfast offerings and we ate here 3 days in a row. Loved the presentation and taste of the Charcoal pancakes with a delicious guava and strawberry syrup. Other breakfast hits were the omelette and the Loco Moco. Service was top notch and friendly. Place has indoor seating as well an outdoor patio area. Did not try their lunch/dinner offerings so cant comment on those. I do recommend Basalt for their breakfast menu!
Basalt - downtown Waikiki.. needs to be on your list of restaurants to eat at.
Lovey quick meal, definitely worth visiting whilst you are in Waikiki. Plenty of restaurants in town that get packed and you have to wait a while… we got seated pretty much straight away at Basalt… Plus.. the food was extra special!! And, close to 4 to 5 star rating food. Would recommend you visiting Basalt whilst in Waikiki!
Tasty start to the day!
We ordered the meat omelet, the loco moco and the avocado toast. They were all delicious and filling meals. The toast and jam was a treat. Our service was good. I would definitely return here to try other meals. I counted 12 staff between the kitchen and servers which surprised me as many places are struggling to find staff!
Basalt Restaurant!
Basalt has a tremendous menu. The food is high quality, well prepared and so flavorful! We ate there 3 times this visit to Waikiki. They have a super breakfast menu. We had the Eggs Benedict and the Meat Omelet. ( ham, sausage, bacon and PortugueseSausage. Brunch and Lunch; we have had the Loco Moco, a bed of rice with a wagyu burger patty covered in rich brown mushroom gravy and topped with 2 eggs OE. So good. We also had the hamburger. Highly recommended! Unfortunately we ran out of time to have the Prime Rib for dinner. We will next visit. Charm was our server twice on this visit. She did a great job.
Quality food and EXCELLENT service
We had a great dining experience at Basalt tonight……our second to last day in Honolulu. We had a little incident that occurred but when we brought up the incident to our server, Paige, she was so gracious and so attentive to our concern. Paige made the entire dining experience a truly memorable night. Paige listened to us and at the end of the evening, Paige brought us a dessert as a way of making things right. Customer service and caring about the customer is so lacking these days…..but not at Basalt. The wine was excellent, the salad was fantastic, the coconut cake dessert was to die for….and if you are lucky enough, you might get served on by “Paige.” You must visit Basalt when in Honolulu!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
