To quote my husband, "I've never spent so much on lunch in the ghetto." Our bill was $250 for two after the "mandatory 20% gratuity." It still bothers me today that my right to tip was taken away from me. Now at least I can say (unlike some other reviews) that our server Andrew was wonderfully patient, took the time with us, and was knowledgeable . We actually tipped him more than 20% but in cash, so my beef is not with him! The restaurant leaves a lot to be desired.... It has a low-end corner store feel to it. They try and make it cool that you are seeing the chefs cook but you can't see anything and like MANY other reviewers mentioned it gets so horribly smoky it is unpleasant. The food was good but not memorable for me. I'm bitter about the $10 "Pickle plate" - it had five sliced carrots rounds, one (I repeat ONE!!!!) pickled okra, and small pile of kimchi beetroot greens...biggest rip off ever. I got the fried rice ball spicy tuna plate but didn't like it at all. We got the skewers and they were good but nothing I couldn't do myself. The sashimi combo wasn't the fish I liked and they don't serve it with ginger and soy sauce (I guess I'm just not accustomed to Izayaka style - although out front it said "Japanese bar food" but bar food doesn't usually cost so much. We had the curry ramen which was good and we enjoyed the different options of hot sake. Two stars due to the high prices with low end ambiance and screw the mandatory gratuity. I think if I had known the tip was mandatory from the beginning that would of been better but we used a "hard copy" of the menu not our phone and there was no warning.
