Let me start by saying they add 3% to the check, not for the use of a credit card, but to cover costs. That would have been enough for me not to go to L'avant Garde, and I knew it beforehand from reading the menu, but it was the birthday of one
We came back! This time we were here to celebrate, just us.
Great ambiance as always. They change the huge statement piece (flowers) by the entrance; probably seasonal. We were greeted nicely and brought to a quiet corner. We went for their prix-fix dinners: one set is fig themed, the other set is lobster the
We got there early for our reservation so went to the bar.
I ordered a Bombay Sapphire gin and tonic, which they didn't have so I asked for Tanqueray which they also didn't have. The bartender suggested Monkey 47 gin and I said sure. Here's where we should have stopped. There were 4 of us for
We went to L'avant Garde for my husband's birthday.
The restaurant is both beautiful and elegant. The service was flawless. The cuisine was excellent. I had the menu with multiple courses containing lobster & was excited to try them all. The lobster bouillabaisse was the best I've ever had.

L'Avant-Garde made my birthday dinner memorable.
From the seamless phone call to setup the reservations and menu personalization, to the day of adjustments to the timeline, the staff was very accommodating. Upon arrival, the dark exterior facade presented a sexy interior. Unfortunately, there is
I had a great dinner here.
I liked my old fashioned cocktail. The amuse bouche was savory and creamy. The Branzino was delicious and so was the duck foie gras that came with it. I had the caramel soufflé with caramel ice cream for dessert. I liked the design on the souffle bu
We were super excited to go back.
..,simply put, very disappointed. Service was not good at all. i can't even explain how our $175 ribeye for two was served...it was horrible. The awesome female sommelier is no longer there, instead we had a manager who clearly knew nothing ab
Great bar and deserts
After dinner at the Barmini, we moved next door to Minibar for dessert and tea. Each offering was as unique and delicious as the rest of the evening. Highly recommended for a memorable and extraordinary dining experience!
Culinary Perfection!
The minibar experience begins weeks before you step inside, when you manage to secure a coveted spot at one of the two nightly seatings. Each passing day builds anticipation, knowing you’re about to embark on something truly special and unique. On
Feast for the senses
The flavors and service are choreographed to create a multi sensory experience. Everything is timed and presented together as a fun surprise to all, but then you take a bite and each is an added adventure in flavor. Wine pairings were amazing too.

Went into this meal very excited due to the Washingtonian ranking and menu but my friends and I left disappointed. The common theme for what we ordered was lack of flavor. I had foie gras to start and while the presentation was great, it really didn

Chef Sebastian's grandmother's recipe soup was delicious.
Eggplant salad, drinks and desserts all great. However we were disappointed with lobster fettuccine dish. It was very average. Service is attentive. I would return to this restaurant to try other dishes.
Loved the ambiance.
Very interesting decor. Wish I had sat near the fireplace. Service was awesome and attentive Food made us all happy but you have to get the bouillabaisse and the duck fat old fashioned were my favorites. Great presentation

We visited L'Avant Garde to celebrate our anniversary.

This used to be undisputedly my FAVORITE French restaurant in the DMV area. I was happy when they temporarily closed down to do a renovation (back room would be freezing cold and could use a remodel). I went back as soon as they reopened to find out
Very excellent.
Polished, friendly and professional service. Great food. The chicken entree particularly noteworthy. Looking forward to returning.

This place by no means is bad, I do not think anything on their menu could be classified as bad, well, maybe their foie gras over celery, but the dishes are good, but for the hype and the prices they are extremely underwhelming. People who say they h

An Experience Not To Be Missed
The overall experience was fantastic. It was dinner and a show. The courses were not just feasts for the stomach but for the eyes. The amount of mise en place that occurred earlier in the day must have been enormous—the mushroom leaf on the monk
A bit disappointing after a phenomenal first visit.
Food was wonderful but overall experience was so-so. We went in August 2019 and the entire experience from start to finish was spectacular. They’ve changed a few things over the years that were a little disappointing. *No longer do you have your
Biggest Disappointment
The biggest waste of $1000 in my 50+ years. Minibar was the worst dining experience I have ever had. We were seated at a what looked like a circa 70s Formica wood counter top. All of the food served was clearly prepared ahead of time and was just pl

Confused about the positive reviews - the food was extremely underwhelming and overpriced. The service was bad and the staff looked miserable. Bread and plain cold butter to start, just gets worse from there. Save your money and go elsewhere.
L'avant garde was very good.
Overall, I'd rate it 5/5; my husband thought it was 4/5. The prices are kind of high, but I was actually pleasantly surprised that our bill wasn't higher by the end. I think the price is work it because the food is very unique. If you want traditiona

The service here is great.
The food just okay. I was disappointed with my meal and thought they should have put a bit more effort into making the meal memorable. The ambience is wonderful. The sommelier awesome. Now they just need to get the food right.
First time, last time for me.
Bread was ok, ask for more butter was charge 5 bucks. Foie gras beignet had a small amount of duck and dough was not sweet. Sweetbreads had an Oder that they were not soak enough to get the smell out. Chateaubrien was good and correctly cooked. Fri

Astonishing dining experience
I booked two seats at Minibar for an anniversary/birthday and could not be happier. My partner, the foodie, says it was his top meal of his life. Each portion of the meal was well thought out, innovative, and incredibly delicious. Flavors carefully a
Absolutely superb dining experience.

High quality food, high prices.
I started with the bouillabaisse with macaroni and rouille - the broth was like a rich lobster bisque under a pillowy thin pastry crust. For my main I had the Atlantic Cod with potato, leek and black truffle. The Cod was excellently cooked - and the

Let's say Peter has a great morning and decides to take his three friends to L'Avant-Garde Washington at 6 PM the same day.
He checks the restaurant's website and sees that no reservations are available. He then looks at the L'Avant-Garde Washington page on AppointmentTrader, but finds that there are no user postings either.
That's where the community-driven bid process comes in.
Peter can place a bid on AppointmentTrader, which serves as a reward for any community member who chooses to work on securing the reservation. AT then notifies experienced users who may be able to help.
Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* FluffyStar64, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's $200 bid.
* FluffyStar64 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to FluffyStar64 for any questions Peter may have as FluffyStar64 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* FluffyStar64 now uses their connections at L'Avant-Garde Washington to secure the table.

* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at L'Avant-Garde Washington!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
