Pea Porridge Bury Saint Edmunds Reviews from The Last Year
Excellent food, great service, casual surroundings.
An unfussy casual atmosphere with high quality food and service. Our meal started with some warm oven baked sourdough with pea hummus. Starters of tuna ventresca and muntjac koftes were both delicious. The tuna was thinly sliced and was a generous portion. The koftes were dense and packed with meat and flavour. Main courses of Iberian pork shoulder with crispy ears and venison loin were perfectly cooked. The sauces and accompaniments helped to elevate the dishes. The good sized portions meant we could only share a dessert (cheese plate). We also enjoyed 2 glasses of wine each. Service was attentive and professional without being overbearing. Very reasonable prices for the quality of the food. The Michelin star is well deserved and we definitely want to return.
Underwhelming & not great for allergy sufferers
We visited Pea Porridge for an evening meal on Saturday 4th May for a birthday celebration. My partner has a known severe intolerance/allergy to shellfish and so, as most people who suffer with allergies, stated this on the booking form. I was quite surprised to then be seated, have a drinks order taken, and then the first food we were offered as a special was ‘scallops’… There was no acknowledgement from any of the staff regarding the shellfish allergy stated on the booking so on placing our order, I raised this with the waitress myself, to confirm the food we had ordered did not contain any shellfish/traces of/potential contamination. Without confirming with the chef, or checking any allergen information, she confidently replied ‘No’ and that food preparation was completely segregated. Admittedly, at first I was quite impressed and assumed she obviously knew her stuff having so confidently answered, and perhaps what you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant? By the time we arrived home, my partner began vomiting profusely and feeling increasingly unwell; Exactly the reaction he has had previously when ingesting shellfish. We contacted the restaurant directly to make them aware of this, and to confirm the food we had ordered definitely did not contain any shellfish. Rather strangely, the response we received was actually more of a challenge as to whether my partner had ingested shellfish, and it was implied possibly food poisoning instead. Yes, the symptoms my partner experienced could have been either of those 2 things, although being a medical professional I was not convinced, given the absence of diarrhoea/fever/stomach cramps which are characteristic of food poisoning. I’ve also witnessed my partners response to ingesting shellfish before, and this was an exact replay. Either way, each scenario is unacceptable after paying £150 to dine in a Michelin star restaurant. I was very surprised that the chef suggested my partner arranges a stool sample, rather odd given that Salmonella is a notifiable disease, which would more than likely be traced back to the restaurant if it returned positive. We responded to the initial email detailing our disappointment in the lack of acknowledgement of the allergy and that the response was just more of a discussion doubting the allergy, rather than offering any apology or form of compensation (not that this was the aim of getting in contact). The second response we received was much the same as the first, and despite previously suggesting possible food poisoning, stated that by apologising or offering compensation would be accepting blame in the situation… We’re real foodies so were really excited to dine here. When contacting the team we made sure to compliment the high quality produce, attention to detail and mentioned the waiting staff were incredibly attentive and friendly. All in all a disappointing visit and really do not recommend, particularly for those with food intolerances/allergies. We tried to deal with this with the restaurant directly and privately, but after little understanding and apology, I’m not sure they grasp the impact of such an experience, and hope this review will prevent anyone else experiencing the same. Certainly not the Michelin star experience we had hoped for!
Good food and setting and reasonable price.
Food was delicious in a very quaint setting and service was also very much up to standard. However they have a rule which says you must have two starters or a main course as a minimum which I understand but I asked if I could have a starter and dessert which would cost the same as two starters and was refused. A little bit mean spirited in my view. Still, a lovely meal.
Nice atmosphere, busy, average decor, good not great food....
As this is the only Michelin Starred Restaurant in Suffolk, we felt we should give it a go. We chose a lunchtime and were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and how busy it was for a Saturday afternoon in February. We were welcomed by the lady manager who was friendly and attentive throughout. The Restaurant decor including plates etc was not to my taste and felt a bit cafe-ish. You can have a set menu but we chose a-la-carte. There was a lot of dishes that contained things I wouldn't eat...for example the confit duck would have been my choice but it came with giblets in it. Starter was feta/spinach filo wrap....nice. My main was Iberico pork, cooked to perfection but lacking anything great to go with it. Underwhelming. Glad we tried it but won't be rushing back.
Super Food in a Relaxed Atmosphere
Wonderful relaxed dining experience! Loved the atmosphere from arriving into a little curtained entrance and receiving a very warm welcome to enjoying the calm unpretentious dining room. It really felt like we were eating in somebody’s house. The front of house lady was exceptional explaining the menu and options. The best bread ever but try not to fill up too much on it! Every bite we ate over the evening was just so flavoursome and interesting. We’re thoroughly looking forward to our next visit.
Superb food, lovely place, super service.
I was a rather stressed chap on arrival, I had no idea that parking would be a challenge nearby, stupidly, I could have worked that out with a little effort. I had a quite long walk in the rain after finding a spot, knowing I was already late. I expected that quite fairly the restaurant would be quite annoyed with me therefore. However, I was warmly welcomed and my mood immediately began to lift as we enjoyed a refreshing Sherry and got to delving into the menu. We ordered too much. These are not dainty little tasting menu courses but hearty, generous and rich dishes. A gorgeous Orkney diver scallop in its shell with zinging spices and sticky lemon-oil freshness, a smoky herring dish where the smoke tastes like wood smoke instead of chemical smoke, so delicate. The rabbit with mushrooms and prunes, and an incredible sauce to luxuriate in, not just with a hint of, but absolutely belting you with tarragon, a steak ordered rare and perfectly rare, and a light velvet chocolate mousse with pistachio cream and a pistachio brittle so wonderful. The black tempura fish (today skate, seems that it is often on the menu with what fish is around) gets its own little paragraph because it was sensational, soft flakes, hard shattering batter, unbelievable hot sauce soused grilled pineapple and freshened up with what all samphire garnishes should just give way to, agretti or monksbeard. There was no regret however despite being overly full. The ingredients and the cooking are thoughtfully put together and special, the flavours are huge, the hint of the charcoal is a delight. The wine list is extensive without letting you get lost, and keenly priced. The service throughout was friendly and efficient, and we could happily leave with a promise to return and to recommend to friends. Thank You, Pea Porridge.
A Lunch to Brighten Your Day
Thank you Pea Porridge for a marvellous meal. Truly beautiful food, prepared with love and creativity. The whole culinary experience was exceptional, from the succulent Scottish Scallop starter to the Syrian Basbousa cake. Looking forward to visiting again.
Foodie heaven. Fabulous food and great service.
What a fantastic find. An unpretentious yet exceptional restaurant- it’s all about the amazing food and excellent service. The food is delightful and you certainly don’t leave hungry.
Wow!
This was our first visit after often walking past wondering what delights were behind the green doors. We weren't disappointed. After stepping out from behind the quaint curtain the greeting was warm and friendly. The staff were informative (we needed half the menu explaining lol) friendly and quietly attentive. The food was excellent as expected. No it's not cheap but definitely worth it as a treat. Would recommend.
Overdue
Long overdue visit to Pea Porridge one again. Excellent front of house and customer service. Lovely, varied menu. No fuss, relaxed, attentive staff, wonderfully presented big flavour food, faultless.
We admit to having high expectations about this place
We admit to having high expectations about this place because of the purported Michelin star and it partially met those. Once seated we waited for 10 minutes before anyone said hello, brought menus or offered water. It is a small space with few tables and the server walked by us several times before we were acknowledged. After that however, things improved. We had quite a few starters: the sourdough with truffle, stuffed zucchini flower, and the scallops. All outstanding. Our table also tried the lobster pasta (a bit light on lobster and boring on flavor), the lamb tagline (which they loved) and the steak special (which was perfectly prepared but came with no side dishes included nor did the server mention we might want to order one). They were alerted in advance that we were celebrating a birthday and there was a nice card at the table when we arrived. Wine list had lots of choices. We had a cheesecake for dessert but it wasn't good. All in all this was not all we hoped for but had some shining moments. We won't be back but we wouldn't tell you not to try it.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
