Be the first to ReplyLunch? Yes, please!
Lunch on a Friday! This place will make you feel as if youāve left Rochester, NY and are on vacation. Surprised to learn after sitting with the menu that the Gumbo was 86ād at 1:00 pm - jeez, please make enough for service next time. The scallops are the best anywhere Iāve ever had them and please bring back the 1/2 portion for lunch. Such a boring dessert menu - sorry but that Sticky Toffee Pudding tastes like it is a dessert served at an elderly facility; dry, little flavor, even less sauce too! Please try the same dessert from the sticky toffee pudding company (online and sold at Whole Foods) to learn was the dessert really should taste like. Happy that the reservations issue has been sorted. We had a pleasant greeting and seating by the hostess. Keep up the good work and open for lunch more often, please.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious surprise!
It was our very first visit to Reddās. No one was disappointed. Popular place, need reservations, noise level a bit on the high side, and service (great as it was) also a bit slow. That said, the cream of asparagus soup was excellent and all entrees were absolutely amazing. Dessert is a must for us and the different choices enticing. Butterscotch pots de crĆØme ranked #1.
Be the first to ReplyFine Restaurant But Expensive
REDD is purported to be Rochester's finest restaurant. It may be, but on the night we dined, nothing tasted terrific, and the pricing was high. Service was fantastic, though; Giovanna at the front is the epitome of gracious. She was very accommodating. Alex was our bartender/server, and he was terrific. Even the bar manager came over to introduce himself. REDD is a well-run restaurant. We ordered two raw fish appetizers, and both were refreshing and tasteful. Yet, neither was a new flavor profile. Our two pastas, one the restaurant's signature rigatoni in a Bolognese sauce, and the other pasta was an oxtail pappardelle The rigatoni was delicious, and the pappardelle was good, but not earth-shattering. Cocktails were made with expertise, and the restaurant was designed beautifully. The lighting makes everyone look good. REDD gets an upscale crowd who are not interested in engaging. There was an "air" of arrogance amongst the patrons. The people at the bar turned their back towards us, a not-too-subtle way of saying, "Don't bother me." We had not experienced that behavior in Rochester. REDD is a great restaurant, but I don't know if it was worth $290 with tip for two.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food but a couple issues
Recently went for lunch with my wife, we had a pizza, scallops, and a salad. Pizza and scallops were awesome, salad was ok. A couple issues,it took for ever ro get our drinks at our table. Other major problem is the bathrooms. They are all unisex, my wife went and there was urine on the seat, this is unacceptable and we most likely will not return. No woman should have to deal with this.
Be the first to ReplyREDD Rochester has Turned the Corner in the Right Direction
Alert, the five year rule is in effect as it has been five or more years since we last reviewed REDD Rochester. This was our second time at REDD Rochester and it was a much better experience than the first time. The staff was excellent; many kudos to Mel A for being on top of everything as our waitress. Also the folks filling our waters were great and one kindly found out the name of one of the songs being played and even wrote it down for us. We had one of the pizzas sans cheese (muy delicioso) and the Bouillabaisse (very good, but a little bland, we added lots of crushed red pepper). There was not Prosecco on the menu but in its place we loved the Australian Jansz Sparkling RosĆ©. And it was a solid pour to boot! The crowd was hot for sure and we even lucked out with a great parking spot right out in front. Weāll be back far sooner than we were after our first visit, things look to be on a solid track at REDD Rochester.
Be the first to ReplyBest restaurant in Western New York!
This is the best restaurant in Western New York, bar none. Have the pan-seared scallops, mushroom risotto and the Marguerita pizza. And remember to take your leftovers home which I forgot to do, and will regret it tonight when I want my midnight snack.
Be the first to ReplyPre-Concert Dinner
I came to REDD as a Pre-Concert Dinner option the place was packed on a Saturday evening, luckily, there was sitting at the bar. I ordered the Eggplant Katsu, and the Utica Greens and a glass of Bubbly RosƩ. The Eggplant crispy on top of Jasmine rice with Japanese curry, Carrots, Potatoes and Tonkatsu Sauce, delicious. Utica Greens is a warm broth dish with escarole, pecorino, prosciutto, breadcrumb. Good, but at first if feels salty to the palate. Bread is good to dip into the both. The advantage of sitting at the bar is that one gets to interact with some of the people next to you. A nice young couple celebrating the husband birthday and a solo night away from their three young ones. It was a very enjoyable evening.

Dinner was great on all aspects. Waiter, wine and of course FOOD! We tried a lot of different plates, but each one was special and prepared in an exceptional and surprising way! I strongly sponsor REDD (and its chef Reddington) to get the first Michelin star in Rochester
Be the first to ReplyHostess Retaliation
The food was great and the service was much better than the two previous times dining at the restaurant. My gripe; the reservation was made two weeks in advance for a weekday dinner. A phone call was made to confirm the reservation. The woman answering the phone pulled up the reservation by name, no problem. We then chatted about our party sitting outside when we arrived if the weather was to our liking. She mentioned the outdoor seating is not reserved but by request once we arrive, of course if available. She did mention since our reservation was so early that weād have āno problemā getting a table on the patio. We arrived early for the reservation and there were only two tables already seated outside. It was a glorious evening and one of our party members was suffering from an injury making walking difficult. Sitting outside was a perfect remedy. The two of us waited at the patio during check-in by the other guests while the other two went inside to the hostess. They promptly came outside and told us we werenāt allowed to sit outside because we didnāt have a phone number on our reservation! WHAT?!?!?!? I walk in to the hostess and ask if we could sit outside since 98% of the tables were open. She tells me that there was no phone number on our reservation and therefore our reservation was not confirmed so, NO, we cannot sit outside! I explain that the week before I phoned to confirm and I reiterate the whole conversation. At this time the look on her face changes, I see a pink tinge come across her cheeks. As I continue to chat with her I remark that it was probably her I spoke with since her voice sounds familiar (my bad for not asking the personās name the week before). Then she tells me that the tables are āall takenā and uses the term āreservedā (!) (even though itās only 5:15) and that there really isnāt a table for us anyway. Really? Has being a hostess turned into a power-play here in Rochester, NY?!! As we continue chatting another woman joins this hostess and they begin talking about this incident. Again, Iām told that āall tables are taken and I recommend leaving a phone number on your reservation next timeā - she actually says this to us. OK, girls. But it doesnāt end there. The second female that joined the conversation then followed us to our table with her tablet - inside, of course - to demand a phone number for the āreservationā. WTF. Now since I phoned the restaurant exactly a week before to confirm the reservation, why didnāt the woman request a phone number then if itās such a big deal? And, why does the Resy reservation site permit us to make a reservation with or without a phone number or with an email if preferred? Classless and immature retaliation. Good luck to you both, miserable women.

I very much wanted to enjoy the experience here more. I was anticipating with a varied menu, something for everyone. The restaurant looks very sleek and modern with a nice comfortable seating plan allowing for nice conversation even on a busy Friday night. We chose to order a lot of things to share, which as a party of 6 didnāt prove as successful. In our experience, items may be max shared for two to three as they are more geared as an individual portion. Thatās on us. We chose individual entrees and I canāt recommend the cioppino at all. As a fishermanās stew, I received an abundance of potatoes and some shellfish in a very bland tomato sauce that didnāt have much seasoning or aromatics. Overall, I found the wine list to be overpriced and lacking. Service was friendly but not organized. I had a wonderful time catching up with friends and family, I just wish the restaurant stood out more.

Really impressed. Stuck to recommended dishes, all were excellent. Pork belly, tuna tartare, scallops, risotto. Really loved the risotto, that lemon kick was perfect. Pot au creme was really good too. Great service. We'll be back.

REDD is bright and airy, but can get rather noisy at dinnertime. Still, I would come again (and again) for the food. My tuna tartare was perfectly seasoned. I was delighted to find that the special that night was skate, one of my favorite fish, rarely found on Rochester menus. I only wish was that it had been served on a plate, rather than a bowl, making it a little difficult to eat. Nevertheless, it was perfectly cooked. My friend's beef was slightly too rare for her taste, but it was brought up to temperature without a problem and immediately followed by an apology from the manager. The server was knowledgeable and friendly and made good suggestions. On a previous visit, I had had an appetizer, the lobster risotto; the lobster plentiful, the rice perfect and in proportion to the seafood. As it was filling, I opted for the half portion of the scallops. Again, the cook was on point, and the accompanying vegetable so tasty, that I was sorely tempted to lick the plate. If noise bothers you, REDD is open for lunch.
