Royal Baths Chinese Restaurant Harrogate Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing food stunning venue
Group of us from work came the service was fabulous. The menu choice was great the drinks order taken on arrival. Once those served food order taken. No hanging around. food tasted amazing
May 2024
Visited previously and we were really impressed so we were expecting a great meal The service is good but too attentive waiters are hovering around and removing plates and filling up drinks instead of leaving you to enjoy your meal The venue is stunning stain glass windows in all directions and granite tiled floors make this restaurant feel very oppulent. Portions are really small and overpriced. In addition there is a 10% surcharge on everything which I always feel is unfair I'm quite willing to tip if the meal and service is good but this in my opinion is discretionary of the diners experience. I never really understand this if you order a meal with 5 dishes costing 50 pounds in total the surcharge is 5 pounds If you order 5 dishes costing 100 pounds in total the. Surcharge is double (10pounds) you've not had any better or more service I know this applies to lots of restaurants but I still don't get it. When we visit again we will be trying an alternative venue .
Over- rated, over-hyped and absolutely over-priced
Bog standard average takeaway at best..... so we thought we would get a takeaway from here for a treat... 1st thing takeaway same price as restaurant - how is this justified... no table service, no washing up amd the food is not the same quality once home and dished up, secondly food was average at best and certainly not worth £65 for a takeaway for 2 people, rib starters were both tough and chewy, sauce was ok in one but the salt and chilli on others was very poor and worse than our local Chinese (1/2 the price) supposedly chilli main course was bland and meat was indistinguishable- was supposed to be lamb but didn't taste like it and could easily have been beef, lemon chicken was dry with little sauce, egg fried rice was good but noodles and beansprouts were again bland and needed seasoning Certainly will not be going back to either eat in or for a takeaway as just not worth it.. £60 plus for a 2 person takeaway should be pretty special, whereas this was your average local £30 at best
Excellent food a lovely setting
Really excellent food in an amazing setting. Good veggie options. Staff are friendly and service was quick. Totally recommend.
Very bland meal so disappointing
Pity the food didn’t mirror the beautiful surroundings. It was the most bland Chinese meal I have ever eaten in a restaurent. Thank goodness we don’t live in Harrogate as wouldn’t want to eat there again
One of the absolute best.
We have been here before on a previous visit so thought we’d go again. it’s absolutely excellent! The food is absolutely incredible, the staff are the most attentive anywhere and the whole experience is just fabulous. The staff are unobtrusive but always there for you. One of the best restaurants I have visited.
An amazing gem in the town
We booked this as a place to eat as it’s close to our hotel for the first night of our anniversary getaway. Let’s just say it didn’t disappoint. We were greeted at the door and shown to our table, the decor inside the restaurant is amazing and the attention to detail was spot on. The service was exemplary (they add 10% service charge to your bill) the food was excellent, I’ll definitely eat there again and we may going back again this trip. If you’re in Harrogate please give this restaurant a try you won’t regret it.
Great food in amazing surroundings
Fabulous, top quality food in truly elegant and grand surroundings. Service was astonishingly fast. Very attentive. Great value for money too. You can see into the kitchen which is great. Exceptionally clean toilets.
Beautiful food and restaurant
Went for a mid-week evening meal while visiting Harrogate. Didn't book but they had space for us. The space is beautifully decorated and really felt like a specialnight out. We ordered the vegetarian set menu and it was so good we were tempted to go back again the following night. The staff were really attentive and service was quick. We would definitely return if back in the area.
Great food and venue
Pricey but the food is fantastic - great atmosphere and surroundings. The staff cannot do enough for you. Great location in central town.
Don't waste your time visiting
Booked a table for the 8pm sitting on Saturday evening. Arrived at 7:54pm and was asked to wait in the bar. At 8:10pm still hadn't been asked if we wanted a drink and noticed lots of used glasses on the bar. When I looked at one of the barmen, he then asked if we wanted a drink. At 8:20pm, I asked what had happened to our table. Staff started scurrying around. I commented that if they could not accommodate us then just let us know. The response was that they were checking. I decided to book another restaurant and informed that our booking could be cancelled. Don't know what system is being operated as there were minimal apologies and there was another group before us sitting waiting and two more groups came in after us. Considering that we were only in Harrogate for the weekend and for 4 out of 5 of us it was out first visit to Harrogate, this was an awful way to be treated.
Beautiful building.
Decided on a meal at the Royal Baths Chinese Restaurant and was not disappointed. Arrived a little early which was not a problem. We had previously perused the menu so had our drinks and food order taken at the same time. The starters (Malaysian chicken satay and siu mai) were very tasty and were followed by king prawns and asparagus in spicy xo sauce, as well as chicken in oyster sauce. Both were delicious and generous in size. Too stuffed for any sweet but the coffee and brandy were squeezed in. The staff were attentive but not overbearing and the building was amazing. We could not stop admiring as we walked in and out. Whilst we have had many a Chinese meal, this was definitely memorable and a thumbs up for a revisit.
An excellent Sunday lunch in every way.
The welcome is very friendly and professional. Internally the restaurant is amazing with the Royal Baths reception area tastefully set out as the Chinese restaurant. The choice of food is very varied and extremely difficult to choose from !! All the food was excellent - interesting and tasty. The star of the starters was the squid with salt n chilli although the spare ribs with brushed honey were delicious. The mains were all excellent - the special of pork loin in sweet vinegar was really interesting. The lamb with cashew nuts in yellow bean sauce full of flavour and as a balance the beef with ginger & spring onions and stir fried chicken with mushrooms & satay sauce. An excellent and very enjoyable lunch.
Great food
Great food and what an iconic building to have your meal in , food was very tasty and just the right portion size, after we finished our food we went and sat in the bar area and what a lovely snug room, bar tender was very pleasant and chatty , would highly recommended this place
