..I wanted to love this place. We had looked *so* forward to it, but it was just...solid. Out of the 16 Michelin rated restaurants in Vienna, I had to narrow it down, so I used the Worlds 50 Best Restaurant list. Once we had our flight tickets, I made reservations; anticipation was a go! The best parts of the evening were the bread & cheese carts. The gentlemen serving from each were polite, engaging and informative. They were the highlights of the evening.Then there's the seven-course meal. I wanted to love it. Some dishes were better than others...it was a good, strong meal. Each course came with a menu card, providing a brief description. Plating was beautiful. Service was solid. But what threw me off was the bill *after* we left. We took a cursory look, paid, and left. We did not notice the charge €10 charge for Marille Wetter or the €20 for the 2016 BdNoir...and don't know what those were. Considering our total bill, with 14% tip was €600, it didn't seem worth the quibble. But it left a weird feeling.The measure of a good meal, for me, is whether we would return. I'm on the fence with this one. After you drop serious €, snag a difficult reservation and make a trek halfway across the world, you want to leave feeling satiated and content; I didn't. Of all the Michelin meals we've had (CA, IL, NY, Italy, France and now Austria), there are a few I would definitely return to and three are on a regular rotation. If you go, just don't go with any expectation and you might enjoy the meal. I think I ruined it for myself with so much anticipation of dining at one of the World's Best 50.
