The Dabney Cellar Washington Reviews
Good...Yes. Worth it...No
We were last there a few years ago and had a memorable experience; we could feel striving in both the back and front of the house, with very creative dishes. Now, with much higher prices, it seems to be resting on its Star. The tasting menu of 5 cour
Memorable excellence

Amazing food, phenomenal service
My boyfriend and I went to the Dabney for my birthday and it was such an amazing experience. The food was phenomenal and the service was even better. Our server, Sarah, was so kind and nice and very helpful with food choices from the tasting menu. Sh
excellent and interesting food!
We had a fabulous, three course, bar, prix fix dinner! The staff was wonderful, the ambiance was intimate and the food fantastic. The vegetables were so tasty and unique. The dessert was different and interesting. If you're looking for a pr
Excellent American food - at a price
Ok - it’s a bit tricky to find. And when you do you’ll probably go through the wrong door. BUT it’s excellent. I’d had lots of good food IN America, but I was looking for good food FROM America. After a slight delay in being seated (I ha
4.5 Dabbed
A friend who lives in the greater DC area recommended it back some time. It's in a cute area over near Howard University, about a 10minute walk from the metro. It had a smart upper-middle class hip vibe. I was alone but I think it would be a
Disappointing Dabney
My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary at The Dabney. Unfortunately, we found it to be a very disappointing experience. The level of cooking was variable. While there were some excellent dishes (or parts of dishes), most were just goo
Wife’s 35th Bday Dinner
I would like to think we all like to spoil our significant others for their Birthdays-I took my wife to dinner at The Dabney and we were amazed by the 8 course dinner and classic wine pairing. Every single employee was helpful from the moment we walk
Slow and pretentious - star payment but not star food
Slow and pretentious - some excellent dishes but others much less so. Over three hours - ie, a bit less than 3 courses an hour - yet, several courses needed little preparation at the time of serving. Best by far the main duck course - well conceive
Slow
Service was friendly but slow. Drinks took ages and the bar was not crowded. Martini was not great. Food took a while too. Food was good but small portions. Prices were too high for such small portions. Overall not awful but not exceptional.
Worth the Money if you're used to spending it like this
The Dabney is one of a kind and we're happy we dined there. Having said that, I'm not sure any restaurant is worth $250 pp (before tip) but that could be because I'm just not used to spending that much. I love tasting menus and that is what The Dab
Perfection in the District
One could start by highlighting the incredible flavors in the dishes - or the delicious cocktails crafted with local spirits, or the chic ambiance of the bricked space with the open kitchen - all world class - but the highlight is the exceptional ser
Such a good dinner!
We were so excited to get a reservation at The Dabney. We were seated just a table from the counter where the chef worked and it was perfect. The night we went the focus was on a local pork farmer and seasonal crab. Each course was delicious. I c
Jumping the Shark
The Dabney, this year’s Washingtonian Magazine pick as the #1 DC restaurant is richly deserved. We had eaten there five times in the last few years as a couple and with friends and had always left elated. Not last night. We hadn’t eaten at The

Cold and Unfeeling!
Unfortunately we were not able to experience dining at the Dabney due to the sudden passing of my father at Christmas. We cancelled the reservation within 48 hours notice as we needed to cancel our trip and head back home to be with my family. When w
Fabulous meal, top notch service
We visited DC and were lucky to get a reservation at The Dabney. The staff is completely in sync with each other and nothing is overlooked. We were able to watch the meal being prepared from where we sat. From start to finish, everything was perfe
First class dining experience
My first time at a Michelin star restaurant and it exceeded my expectations. It started with a table right next to the kitchen, where we could see all the chefs at work. My wife, who worked in restaurants for a long time, said it was rare to see a ki
Get the catfish slider! You’ll thank me later
The Dabney is right near the convention center in Shaw so I made sure to swing by for some bar bites and refreshments after a conference I went to. Tried the Alma Ata, the catfish sweet potato roll, and the country ham. The cocktail was just ok, no
Overpriced and low quality
I am just glad that I didn't pay. My friends took me here because they lost a bet. It is a fine dining like restaurant with below average quality. The ambience is the only good think I guess. Do not order steak or any dish made with beef or you will
Michelin star by all means!!!
Nothing to remind you the USA bad service to almost every hotel or restaurant or public service in the Country. Really English style time accuracy, French wines and Swiss food and beverage service. Perfect in all aspects, very gourmet with American t

Let's say Peter has a great morning and decides to take his three friends to The Dabney Cellar Washington at 6 PM the same day.
He checks the restaurant's website and sees that no reservations are available. He then looks at the The Dabney Cellar Washington page on AppointmentTrader, but finds that there are no user postings either.
That's where the community-driven bid process comes in.
Peter can place a bid on AppointmentTrader, which serves as a reward for any community member who chooses to work on securing the reservation. AT then notifies experienced users who may be able to help.
Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* FluffyStar64, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's $200 bid.
* FluffyStar64 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to FluffyStar64 for any questions Peter may have as FluffyStar64 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* FluffyStar64 now uses their connections at The Dabney Cellar Washington to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If FluffyStar64 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, FluffyStar64 receives the $200 reward which is credited to FluffyStar64's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at The Dabney Cellar Washington!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
