Glorious
Chimi is the best waiter in Essex. If you find yourself and Tom, Dick and Harry’s he’s is the best one you can find. Amazing service, wonderful conversation and all in all a fantastic success. 5 STAR REVIEWS. P.S give him a raise x
A Haven of Good Food, Laughter, and Chat at TDH.
Three of us descended on this delightful eatery on Thursday evening, and we weren't disappointed. We were greeted warmly by Cimi; it's always great seeing him, and the chat and laughter flowed immediately - great. The decor is unchanged: tiled, light-coloured walls adorned with quirky figureheads, recessed lighting, a full-bar on the left, and large sliding glass doors on the right leading onto a terraced area. We were shown to a table of our choice. Then, armed with complimentary Proseccos - thanks, Cimi - we made our selection from a small but varied menu, which should suit most palates. Our starters consisted of grilled octopus, scallops with pork belly cubes, and chicken wings; all were perfectly prepared and presented, and suitably devoured within seconds. For our mains, we had salmon, half-lobster and fries, and chicken skewers; again, all were perfectly prepared and full of flavour. This culinary brilliance was washed down with a delightfully chilled Sauvignon Blanc. Being gluttons, two of us then found room for a shared red berry pie with Amaretto drizzled over the top - wonderful! We concluded this gastronomic marvel with lemon tea, cappuccino, black Americano, and black Sambucas. Thank you, Cimi, and all at TDH for a great dining experience with laughter and chat, and our gracious compliments to the chefs for their artistry. We will be seeing you soon. Until then, keep smiling and be happy.
Wouldn't go back
Went for family lunch, The menu looked ok, but extremely overpriced £47 for Dover sole with no accompaniments was ridiculous! £49 for half a lobster!! Im not cheap, we love going to Smiths in Wapping or Ongar but this just didn't compare in any way. The shepherds pie was ok but tasted like they'd knocked the bowl of salt into it and tried to scrap it off, was so salty I couldn't finish it and spent the rest of the day drinking water. Got a drink at the start but was not offered additional drinks or asked how the meal was, they were friendly but not attentive. Didn't have dessert because a DJ with a sax turned up & was so loud it ruined the meal (now I love me a night out, I'm the first on and last off the dance floor but in a restaurant at lunch where every table had grandparents and toddlers do we want tunes blasted out so we can't hear each other talk? NO, hate this new thing of mixing a night out and lunch it's so chav and déclassé) Wasn't impressed with the decor of the restaurant came across a bit cheap, the toilet area was cluttered and scruffy, was this place worthy of a Michelin star - no absolutely not. Would not return and would not recommend. I can only assume if it was revisited by Michelin it would not receive the same accolade!
Will definitely be back!
Lovely atmosphere! I came with my family for a birthday meal, and was not disappointed. The food was delicious and the service was amazing.
Nice one, T, D & H! 🎩👔🎀
Great surprise this restaurant, garden, patio outside Loughton tube station. Lured in by the funny name, we found an amazing place, with great vibes and a succulent menu with interesting choices. We went for the seared scallops, cauliflower puree, and crispy porkbelly and then the Chargrilled 28 day aged fillet steak, fries, peppercorn, salad garnish and a funny shoehorn-shaped beer battered haddock served with chips, tartar sauce, homemade mushy peas. This place is good for every occasion, whether it’s dinner, brunch, breakfast or Sunday roast. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere slightly irreverent. Will sure come back to try more of the comprehensive menu.
Good food and service but a bit pricey
An enjoyable evening. Good service and very good food, especially the sourdough and butter, scallops and steak and ale pie. Only niggle is that it is quite expensive and price point of some menu items was very high (especially when you gave to order sides) but I guess it’s in an affluent area.
Not bad at all!!
First time visitor here and was impressed! First cocktail was overfilled with crushed ice not leaving much room for the drink but sorted that out and funny, the next ones tasted better with less ice! Started with the croquettes which were good but I think 2 of them were them same? Followed with the lamb which was ordered pink but came medium but all very tasty! Fruit pie is worthwhile! Excellent service - a tad expensive but that'll be the drinks!! Will return!
Not worth the money
Visited the restaurant twice and both times it felt like it’s only concentrating on making money. The food is average. Poor quality ingredients and too expensive. Had Dover sole, was no price on the menu and not advised by the waiter. When the bill arrived it Costed £47! Ridiculous. Starters are not great either and expensive, £15 for goats cheese and vegetables. However, when ordering it stated £9.5 on the menu, so I’m not sure why the price was different on the bill. Waiters cannot be bothered to talk to you or ask you if you need anything. Not going back for sure. I don’t mind paying for a nice quality food but unfortunately this place does not have any.
An Uplifting Dining Experience at TDH.
Three of us invaded this lovely eatery on Wednesday evening and weren't disappointed. Upon entering, we were greeted by Cimi, who made us feel right at home with chat and laughter; we've known him for some while now, and it's always great catching up with him. The decor remains the same: suspended and recessed lighting, with quirky figureheads on the walls. There's a full-bar on your left, and large sliding glass doors on your right which opens onto an al fresco terrace, giving the restaurant an airy feel. We were shown to our table of choice, and with complimentary Proseccos in hand - thanks, Cimi - we made our selection from quite a varied menu of fish, seafood, meat, and pasta dishes, which should cater for most palates. For our starters, two went for the grilled octopus, and one went for the spicy chicken wings; the presentation and preparation were perfect. Our mains consisted of two half lobsters and fries, and one BBQ ribs; yet again, the tecture and taste was brilliant. This culinary perfection was baptised with a lovely Sauvignon Blanc. One then found room for dessert: dropped chocolate ice cream. We concluded this gastronomic extravaganza with an Americano, tea, a cappuccino, and Sambucas. Thanks Cimi for the great chat and laughter, and all at TDH for an unforgettable dining experience. Until the next culinary debauchery, keep happy and safe. Bye for now.
Terrible service
The service in this place is completely below average The wait is ridiculous and the staff are extremely slow and inattentive. As a large group we were not all served together no one person allocated to our table and asking for more extras ie drinks/ condiments/ sauces took forever!!!
